Chapter 79: Chapter 78: Good News

Stella didn’t wake up.

Caelestis and Eleanore stayed in that room with her all night. They didn’t want her to feel alone but it didn’t work.

In the morning when Eleanore lifted her head next to Stella, she was still asleep in the same position, unmoved. For a moment, she felt like crying but then remembered she still had one more day. She might wake up today.

She had held onto hope that Stella would come back.

Victor tried hard to have them both leave the room at all costs. But they were unmoved. Too scared that if they left, she might leave them forever. Yet he somehow dragged them out of that room to have them freshen up and eat some food.

On the breakfast table, Adena was already present.

Caelestis ignored her just like Eleanore, as he was in no mood to argue about the other day’s incident. However, Adena didn’t care about that at all. She had made up her mind that she would have Eleanore regret everything she had done to her.

Last night, while the two were busy looking after Stella, she was plotting a new great plan to remove Eleanore out of her way. Adena, at that moment, found Eleanore as the biggest obstacle between her and Caelestis.

Stella was always an easy target because she never liked Caelestis back but Eleanore, she is different. Everyone in the noble circle knows that she has been madly in love with him for years. Her attitude right now is just acting like Verbena had said.

When Eleanore saw the food in front of her, her hungry stomach started to growl. She had eaten nothing since yesterday. Thus, even though it was breakfast time. A time she hated the most, she couldn’t resist herself from devouring everything in front of.

She started with a mixed fruit juice and then moved on to fruit salad. Soon her mouth was filled with various items and her tongue had tasted an excessive amount of sweet for the first time in her life.

When she took a bite of another chocolate pan cake, she choked on it because she was too focused on gobbling it all up, so that she could quickly go back to Stella.

Caelestis got out of his seat and quickly poured a glass of water for her before passing it to her, then started the rub, his palm behind her back to help her swallow it up. "Eat slowly. Nothing will happen to Stella."

He understood the desperation that she held, he too was feeling it. He also wanted to complete this breakfast as quickly as possible to be able to return back to his love.

Once Eleanore had stopped coughing and the pain in her throat had subdued. She turned to Caelestis behind her. "I’m fine now." She says, asking him to get back to his place.

"You should eat slowly." Adena says, as Caelestis settles back down in his place.

Eleanore didn’t reply to her. When she saw Adena sitting opposite her in the dining room, she had decided that should ignore her and act like she does not exist for her.

"Ha! Are you ignoring me?" She asked, taking a sip of her juice.

"Yes." Eleanore replies. Her appetite had died, and she was finishing up to leave the room. The atmosphere felt so heavy, ever since Adena opened her mouth, that it felt like she could get an asthma attack at any time.

She got up to leave, but Adena was not done talking and she hated it when she was not allowed to finish what she had to say.

"That was rude of you." She speaks up.

Eleanore, who had stopped for seconds on hearing that, continued ahead.

"I want to apologise for the mistake I committed yesterday." She said again, to try and stop her but Eleanore didn’t stop.

"Stop ignoring me. I am saying something." Adena jerks out of her chair and slams the table.

Caelestis was shocked by that loud thud and the silence following it remained in the room for several minutes. He didn’t want to interfere, but it turns out he has no choice. "Lady—"

"You do not need to apologise." Eleanore turned to face her. "For I won’t accept it. What you did is unforgivable."

"Why—"

Caelestis interrupted and unknowingly stopped Adena’s anger blast. "Lady Eleanore. If she is asking for forgiveness, you should give it." He suggests.

"She is not asking for forgiveness. Grand duke. She is only making me aware that she wishes to apologise, and I said she doesn’t need to because it was not going to be genuine anyways."

"Lady Eleanore. You are crossing the line." Adena burst out.

"Am I?" and yet Eleanore maintains her demeanour.

"That’s enough, you two. This is not the time to—"

"You said we are friends, and you will always take my side, even if I am wrong. But am I even wrong here?" Eleanore asks, sternly.

"No. You are not wrong." He got up, his appetite dying with this conversation as well. "But Adena is also my cousin."

On hearing that, Adena’s tensed Shoulders rose, clouded by confidence.

"Looks like your problem."

"Huh!"

"Am I obliged to forgive her for insulting me in front of hundreds of your staff, just because she is your cousin?"

Caelestis was exhausted, he had no strength to argue.

"That’s it." Adena picked up a glass of water and rushed to face Eleanore. "Just who do you think you are?" She asked, before emptying the glass over her.

But the water never touched Eleanore’s face. All she could see was Caelestis’ broad back, blocking the water from reaching her.

"Caelestis!" Adena was shocked, she didn’t expect that he would block the water for Eleanore. "I’m sorry. Why would you do that?"

He didn’t answer, as he wiped and tried to get water off his face using his hand. His well-set hair, all went wet and were completely ruined.

Eleanore picked up a handkerchief and passed it over to him. He accepted it and used it to wipe off the remaining water on his face.

"Adena you—" Before he could let his suppressed anger out on her, the head maid burst in.

"My Lord, Baroness has awoken." She relays the good news.
