Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead-Chapter 78 - 77: A Stressful Night
"Tell her stories, anything. Keep reminding her that there are people waiting for her to wake up." The doctor had suggested.
Eleanore continued to replay his words in her mind, as she saw Caelestis simply sitting there in the only chair close to Stella, having nothing to say to her.
’What is he even doing?’ Eleanore wondered, sitting on the couch opposite him.
She finally gives up and opens her mouth. "The doctor asked to tell stories, doesn’t mean you have to make one. Just say any of your childhood experiences. Anything."
"I know. It’s just that I can’t find anything that I would want to tell her." He says, still contemplating on his thoughts.
"Why are you searching so far and wide? Just say anything." She got out of the couch and walked to him. "You can even share your emotions, if you want." She gently rests her hand on his shoulder.
Caelestis turns to look at her.
"What? Do you want privacy?"
"No!" He turns back to Stella and gulps. "I was thinking about saying something that would make her happy. When I thought for a long time, I found something she has been asking for days."
Eleanore tilted her head, puzzled. "What could that be?"
"Freedom. From me." He answered, his voice turning low and sorrowful. "Wouldn’t she love it, if I promise to stop bothering her?"
Eleanore couldn’t deny that Stella would truly love that.
"Who knows, maybe she is not waking up because she doesn’t want to face me at all." His words start piercing Eleanore’s heart. What he is thinking is probably right.
It is not hidden that Stella hates him. It started from the moment he confined her and as far as Eleanore had understood her, there was no way she was ever going to forgive him.
"Grand duke. I won’t lie. She hates you." Eleanore speaks, her fingers squeezing his shoulder. "I do not see hope."
"I know." Caelestis notices Eleanore’s concern and lays his hand on hers, while his gaze remains fixed on Stella.
He looked heart broken. It is a bit of a late realization but it’s better that he finally understood.
"Stella, I love you and what you want is me not trying to hold you captive in the name of love. I would do that too. So please. Please wake up." He speaks.
It didn’t work. After all that he said, she still did not wake up.
The night fell and even though the dinner was served in the room itself, none of them touched it. How could they feel hungry when their friend is dying?
Caelestis always looked obsessed with Stella. Thus, Eleanore thought his friendship was false too. Today, however, she came to realize that although his love towards her was never true, his friendship always was.
He might come out as a complete monster, always letting anger takeover his emotions, yet he had this deep responsibility towards relationships. Even friendship ranked high in his loyalty list.
It was already midnight and Eleanore thought this was the right time for her to take over. She left the couch and stood behind Caelestis, who didn’t move from that chair even once, all day.
He looked tired and a bit sleepy.
"You look tired." She begins. "And I want to sit next to her now. Can we switch?"
"Sure." He got up and moved to the couch.
That was easy. She thought he would perhaps resist or even fight but he just simply agreed and left the chair.
As Eleanore sat down on the chair, she heard a rustling sound of her blanket that she had left behind. When raised her gaze, she found Caelestis lying down on the couch and wrapping himself in her blanket, before quickly slipping into a deep sleep.
She ignored it and didn’t think much about it. He is not important right now, Stella is. She holds Stella’s cold hand and simply calls her. Her hand had completely lost the warmth it once had.
She had slept all afternoon and there was no way she could get any sleep now. Turns out she would be staying awake all night.
"Stella. When are you going to wake up?" She asks. "Do you know, you might actually not have to stay confined here any longer." Her voice was so low, it could never reach Caelestis’ ears, even if he were awake.
"You said that you have someone you like, right? Won’t you tell me who that person is?" Eleanore no longer knew what she was saying, her mouth was just moving along with the things her heart had to say.
"I think I also like someone." She turned to take a glance of Caelestis’ face again, but all she could see was his back that was facing her. "But is it even right for me to fall in love?" She turned back to Stella.
"What would happen if I had to leave this world when my mission was completed? If I love someone, won’t I have to leave them behind? I have nothing in the original world. No family, no friends, no love. Nothing. Then why should I leave this place, where I have family, friends and love? I don’t want to go back."
Eleanore had started to hate her fate. This is very painful. She could feel her heart piercing. If Caelestis lets go of Stella and Stella ends up marrying Hael. Meanwhile, Eleanore is still alive. Won’t that mean her main mission is over, and she can leave?
If that’s the case, she didn’t want Stella to wake up. She doesn’t want to leave yet. She loves her brother Hael and has even started falling for Caelestis. She has a friend as brave as Stella, who is ready to give up her life for her. All three of them within just a short span of three months, have become so important that she couldn’t bring herself to say goodbye to them.
"Even if I love you all. I cannot be selfish, right? Yet I would love to extend this time with you all for as long as possible."
