Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead-Chapter 82 - 81: Promises Are Meant To Be Broken!
’What’s wrong with him?’ Eleanore wondered, she turned to Stella and shrugged her shoulders in disbelief and got a small smile in return from her.
She remembered the doctor had advised Stella to take a short stroll. Thus, Eleanore helped Stella get out of her bed. It would be best to walk a little before taking the medicine.
Slowly, she helped Stella out of the room, where Marina was waiting to accompany them for a walk.
"Stairs look dangerous, don’t you think?" Eleanore asked Marina, who had fixed all her attention on making sure Stella didn’t fall.
"I’m not sure." She replied, not giving much thought to that question.
They silently agreed that this stroll would remain in the corridor of the first floor, but it all failed when Stella herself took the stairs.
Without a warning she took the staircase, when they came near it and started descending down on her own within minutes.
Eleanore and Marina closely followed her, ready to catch her if by any chance she stumbles. But they were worried for nothing.
Stella was just fine, she got off to the main hall of the mansion and started outside. Eleanore could only hope that they don’t bump into Adena or Verbena. It wouldn’t be very fun to meet them now.
Fortunately, the huge yards of property that was either covered in road, trees, roses or other generic flowers, was empty. They didn’t even see any employees working there. How strange!
When they had gotten a little too far, Eleanore remembered it was supposed to be a short stroll.
"Stel, you should stop now. It’s not good for you to walk any longer." Eleanore said, but what she got in return was silence, as Stella continued walking.
In response, Eleanore reduced the distance between them, and caught her arm, trying to stop.
"Don’t act like you can’t understand me. If you don’t want to talk fine but you must listen to me. Let’s go back." Saying this she started to drag her back, but Stella resisted her.
"I don’t want to go back." She finally speaks.
Eleanore lets go of her hand and turns to her. "You could talk all along?" She asked, stunned on hearing her voice after days.
Stella nodded, her eyes welling up in tears, as they rolled down from her eyes.
Eleanore had so many questions to ask. Why did you choose to remain quiet all this time?
But this was not the right time.
She noticed that Stella was losing strength, even her legs were shivering. She caught her wrist again and guided her to a bench in the corner of the pathway.
"What’s wrong?" She asked, sitting next to her distressed friend. "Why were you not talking at all?"
Stella didn’t answer, she remained quiet as her neck bent to look above at the bright blue sky. "Summers are coming." She says.
Her not answering the question and changing the topic, made Eleanore realise she didn’t want to talk about it. So she just went with the flow and didn’t keep pushing her with those questions.
"Indeed. Look at how clear the sky is today." She said,
"When I was asleep—" Stella shifted her gaze to the ground. Her legs were in the air, due to her short height, or maybe because the bench was just too high. She looked at Eleanore’s legs and they were touching the ground.
’So it is the first one.’ She realised.
"I heard a voice—" She paused again, moving her legs in the air while sitting in her place. "— The voice was begging me to wake up. I might be sleeping but I could hear most of the things you and the grand duke were saying."
Stella turned to look at her friend, replaying those vivid words in her mind. "What did you mean you didn’t want to leave yet?"
Eleanore’s eyes widened on hearing that. She said those words, because she thought no one could hear them. Who knew that Stella, although asleep, heard it all, loud and clear.
"I—" She was trying to come up with a plausible lie, as she stammered.
"Did you fall for the Grand Duke again? Is that why you do not want to leave this mansion yet, even though your brother is coming back?" She asked, confusing Eleanore’s initial words with her latter ones.
"What? No!" She felt embarrassed on hearing that. "I just didn’t want to leave you all behind." That wasn’t a lie, but Stella could never understand the meaning behind those words.
Stella didn’t want to ask anything more about that strange confession she received out of nowhere. Considering she remembered the words vividly and nothing was clear in her head.
"Stel—" Eleanore began, unable to face her. "Why did you take that sword for me?" She asked. Although she somewhat knew the answer to that question, she just had to ask it. Perhaps, she wanted to confirm if her thinking was correct.
"I don’t know." Stella answered, after trying to remember what she was thinking when she came in between death and her friend.
It wasn’t exactly the kind of answer Eleanore was expecting but it was much better than the one she had imagined. Having no idea why you did something, are the most truthful words a person could say, right?
"Honestly, I think I just acted on my instinct. I don’t even remember what I was thinking." She laughed awkwardly. "Wouldn’t you do the same?" She smiled at Eleanore.
It was a difficult question. "I am unsure." She says, feeling lost at that thought.
Would she do the same? Probably not.
"Stella." Eleanore verified her thinking, once again, before asking her this. "Were you not scared?"
Her smile vanished. She looked away, her gaze back to her floating legs. "I was immensely scared. The wound was aching, and it was painful. Even when the doctor was operating on it. It was painful. When he was adding stitches, for a while I wished death. If possible, I don’t want to experience it again."
Stella’s words break her. Of course, she would never let that happen to her ever again.
Eleanore hugged her and assured her, "It won’t happen again, I promise."
