Chapter 83: Chapter 82: A Dangerous Wish

Eleanore couldn’t keep her promise. She had no idea that her promise would break so soon. That Stella’s life would be endangered so quickly, she had no idea. It had only been a day since she had opened her eyes and yet she was attacked again.

Like last time, the system again didn’t give Eleanore a warning. ’Why? Why did the system not sense the danger? No! It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have relied on it with how things had turned out last time!’

"I will call the doctor." Marina says, before quickly rushing out of the room, leaving Stella and Eleanore alone.

’What could be the worst part of this event?’

Eleanore took a step back in denial.

’That I fed her the dreadful poison, by my own hands.’

She quickly accepted that the medicine she had fed indeed contained something weird, a poison perhaps. When Stella finished drinking the medicine, Eleanore sat next to her, they were in the middle of a hearty conversation, when she suddenly vomited out a pool of blood.

Stella was still coughing non-stop, clenching her chest, her nails digging deep into her skin. She was in pain.

Eleanore moved close to her again and started rubbing behind her back. The blood splashed over her hand that was trying to stop Stella’s nail from digging any deeper into her chest.

Her whole palm had been painted red.

The blood. It scared her. The blood reminds her of how she had lost two of her mothers, one in this world and one in the real one.

"Stella! Are you okay?" She asked, as tears rolled down her eyes. She blamed herself for not verifying it after the last poison incident. "It’s my fault. I’m sorry." She should have checked it somehow.

Stella clenched Eleanore’s palm, it was very greasy and slippery, yet she continued to keep her hold tight. Her eyes had started to turn blurry, yet she could see her friend’s tears, and that saddened her. She knew Eleanore would never do that. She believed in her.

"Cough! It’s— not.... your fault." Her voice was barely audible.

By then the doctor had arrived. He was in the middle of his experiment that he had paused for days, when Marina called him. He had to leave it again, to look after the same patient.

"Lady Eleanore, please move behind." He said, but Stella’s hand wouldn’t let her go.

"I— She—" She looked confused.

"It’s fine." The doctor held Eleanore’s wrist and gently pulled her hand out of Stella’s. The greasiness of the blood, let her hand slide out of Stella’s tight grip.

Caelestis also appeared just in time. Followed by Victor. The whole mansion had gone into an uproar again.

"What happened?" He asked, but Eleanore was in no condition to talk.

Her eyes were fixed on her two palms that were covered in blood. Blood of her friend, who had just awoken. ’She must be in so much pain. She said she hated it. Why is all this happening to her? Why are things turning like this? Is this— Is this because I asked for more time? It must be because of that. I won’t—’ Eleanore started to whimper, shivering as that thought came in.

’I won’t ask for more time. I don’t need it. I will return without any complaint. So please stop hurting that poor thing.’

Her whimpers started to turn into loud wails, as her gaze still remained fixed on her bloody hands.

Caelestis pulled out his handkerchief and covered her hands with it. When her view was obstructed, her head raised to look at Caelestis, who was concentrating on whipping off the blood. He tried but the blood touching her skin had dried and turned her palms red. The pigment of the red blood had remained.

They exchanged gaze. Her eyes clearly showed that she was blaming herself for it. To be honest, like always he was going to do the same.

However, when he remembered his promise, he composed himself, stopping his mouth from saying those hurtful words again. But the impact of seeing Eleanore so broken and scared, had restricted him from snapping more than the promise he had made.

"It’s okay." He says, hugging her and stroking her hair softly as he turns to look at Stella’s condition. There was too much blood. The longer Eleanore stays here the more it will affect her. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

What if some more of her memories get triggered? That would be troublesome, it would become extremely difficult for Caelestis to manage and control the outbreak. ’No, I can’t let that happen.’

"Victor!" He called his secretary, who was just as shocked as everyone else, present in that room. The only difference was the reason behind it.

He was too taken aback on seeing Eleanore and Caelestis hugging. Her face buried in his chest, her fingers digging into his back. Their closeness, everything gave him a very unsettling feeling, one he could recognise as jealousy.

"Victor!" Caelestis called him again.

"Yes— yes, my lord?" He snapped out of his realm of anger and resisted himself from separating them and punching into Caelestis’ face.

"Stay here. Find out what happened and let me know. I am taking Eleanore out; she doesn’t look very well." He explains, before slowly lifting Eleanore’s face to his.

His palm holding her two cheeks in between his huge hands, as he says, "Eleanore, calm down. Let’s go out, okay?"

Eleanore nods, and they leave the room.

"It is poison. A dangerous one." The doctor said, "What did she eat last?"

"The medicine." Marina answered.

"Anything before that?"

"Breakfast. I don’t know what the breakfast contained." Marian was not present in the room when the breakfast was served.

"How long ago?" Stella was still coughing painfully, the two nurses had held her two hands, restricting her from hurting herself.

"About an hour."

"Did the breakfast contain something wrong?" Victor interrupted, moving closer to the doctor and to observe Stella.

"No, it was indeed the medicine that caused this. It is poisoned. But I wasn’t the one who put it in there. None of my medicines could lead to such adverse conditions." The doctor defends himself.

"Try to stabilize her. I will inspect the medicine." He picked up the blue sachet from the side table and left the room.
