Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead-Chapter 70 - 69: Trust
When Eleanore saw that carriage, the first thought that passed through her mind was:
’Hale? Is Hale back?’ She wondered.
Although she didn’t have a very strong relationship with her brother like the original Eleanore, she was still waiting for him. Maybe these were the original Eleanore’s feelings that were over powering hers. But she didn’t care. She only wanted to see her brother.
When there were only a few steps left to the gate, it opened, and she could finally see the crest on the carriage. It didn’t belong to her family. The Sinclair family has the crest of a swan. The crest that was finely attached to the luxurious carriage was of an eagle.
Eagle belongs to the Velrose family.
’Adena? Why is she here?’ She wondered.
Eleanore turned around, disappointed, to get back to the mansion. When Adena called her from behind. "Lady Eleanore!" She shouted, as she carefully stepped out of the carriage with the help of her escort knight.
Hearing the villainess of the web novel call her, she unwillingly turned around.
Adena walked toward her slowly, making her wait until she could arrive, then bowed to her. "Greetings, Lady Eleanore Sinclair. Forgive my rudeness, from earlier. I wanted to talk to you. Thus called you out without your surname." She spoke.
"I understand." Eleanore sighed, wondering what it was that she might want to talk about.
Adena straightened her back and stood modestly, holding the back of her other palm, in her left one. She smiled, "I heard an assassination attempt took place two days ago." She struck up a very interesting conversation.
"How did you come to know?" Eleanore was surprised. The incident was strictly confidential. Caelestis had asked all his staff to keep their mouths sealed. Then how did the information leak?
"Caelestis told me." She answered, calling the grand duke by his first name, purposely. Then acting as if it was a slip of tongue. "I mean, the grand duke." She gently stroked her hair behind her ear and smiled as if hinting to her that they are close.
A hole formed between Eleanore’s eyebrows, as she felt disgusted by that smile she was wearing. ’Does she think I care?’
"I heard, Baroness Stella was injured. I came to see her."
"And not the grand duke?" Eleanore asked, mimicking the same smile Adena was wearing a few seconds ago.
"Ah! That. Of course." She smiled again, like a woman so in love, she could kill and get killed for it.
"Drop the act. It’s disgusting." Eleanore turned to leave, but Adena wasn’t done yet.
"Did I do my greetings well this time, Lady Eleanore Sinclair?" She asked, referring to the tea party, where Eleanore asked her to learn some etiquette.
"Yes, it was convincing." Eleanore’s words, before she left, took away the fake smile from Adena’s face.
She had come prepared to win against her today but just like last time. She failed to embarrass her or make her feel low, defeated, sorrowful, anything. She failed. Terribly!
_____
Adena was welcomed by Caelestis without a question, unlike the cold conversation he had with her when she had arrived. Which was fair, considering her evil lasting impression on him. But does he really not see how evil his own cousin is?
Every time, they talk to each other, it is pretty much visible that her tone turns strange. Love dripped down her eyes, words like flowers and she could touch him however she wanted. Gross!
Eleanore couldn’t take them both anymore, so she excused herself from the study and started to the servants’ quarters.
She had heard that Marina had awoken and was well. Her injuries were not that severe, but she still needed some rest.
When Eleanore appeared in her quarters. Marina tried to get up to greet her, but Eleanore stopped her from moving.
"Stay. Don’t move." She said, as she pulled a wooden chair from the study table near her bed.
Marina had a large white bandage covering her head and a little red patch in the back of her head. She must have bled a lot from there.
"What happened? How did you get hurt?" She asked.
Eleanore wanted to investigate this assassination attempt. It was hard to believe that the rebels had sent them. Last time when she was attacked in the Sinclair mansion, a single assassin was able to whip out the entirety of staff, and Knights in the mansion.
True. This time Caelestis was present but to match that up, they also had a high manpower. She heard from Victor that there was a total of eight of them. But they were not skilled enough to create a casualty as high as the last heart wrenching incident. In fact, they were able to injure only three.
Either they were ordered to just kill one person and not harm the others, or they were just not skilled enough to kill everyone. Whatever it may be, Eleanore just couldn’t believe they were sent by the assassins. This was definitely done by someone else.
"I heard footsteps—" Marina explained the incident in great detail. "— After they knocked me down, I don’t remember anything."
Eleanore sighed, as she got no clue from this conversation. "You should rest more, Marina. You did well." Saying this she got up.
"Then, my lady— um," She fumbled, while Eleanore patiently waited to hear what she had to say. "— Do I earn your trust?" She asked, her eyes falling on her fidgeting fingers, as she sat upright.
"Yes." She answers.
That day, Marina saw a smile so genuine and eyes filled with so much pride and acknowledgement for her, that a thought, more like a pledge, ran through her mind. ’I could die for this person.’ And thus, her loyalty for Eleanore only became firm since that day.
