Chapter 67: Chapter 66: Unsettling Feelings

She gulped, loosening her grip on his collar. After taking a few steps backwards and sticking her back to the wall behind, her leg just lost its strength completely. She slid down swiftly by the wall and sat on the ground, her head fell in her palm, in exhaustion.

Victor kneeled before her. "Are you okay? You hurt anywhere?" He asked, worried for her.

Her head continued to remain hidden from the two men as she answered in a low voice. "No, I’m fine. Just tired."

"You should take some rest." He said as he sat beside her, as she hugged her legs and placed her head on her knees.

"No, I can’t leave her alone." Her drowsy voice was barely audible. She remained like that for a while, before slipping into deep sleep.

Victor confirmed if she was truly asleep. He turned to Caelestis, "I will take her to her room" he says, before slipping his hand around her waist and the other under her knees.

He was about to pick her up, but Caelestis stopped him, by placing his hand on Victor’s shoulder. "I will do that. You stay here." He said, out of nowhere.

Caelestis wanted to blame her for everything, keep tormenting her on every chance he could get and yet feel this unsettling feeling when another man comes near him.

Victor looked at him from over his shoulder, his brown eyes shot a piercing stare his way. "How can I leave her with the person who tried to choke her to death?" He picked her up. "Then I will excuse myself first, Grand Duke."

As if a sharp arrow had passed through his heart, Caelestis realised that his attitude was only taking away everyone close to him. The man who always called him ’My Lord’, today called him grand duke. He would have absolutely used his name instead, if his secretary didn’t have control over his emotions.

"What is wrong with me? What do I even want? Why do I keep messing things up? First, I want to be kind to her and then go ahead and vent my anger on her instead. If that’s not enough, I— I—. Do I get jealous when I see her with other men?" Caelestis almost felt disgusted by that thought. He almost threw himself on the ground, his forehead in his palms, as he continued to get those irrelevant and ridiculous thoughts.

Victor carefully placed Eleanore on her soft bed and covered her in her warm blanket. He turned to leave but was stopped by a sudden pull. Eleanore had caught the tail of his overcoat, so tightly that he got pulled behind. A smile flickered on his face as he softly stroked her head, remembering his long-lost sister.

"I always saw you as my long-lost younger sister, but now I feel weird around you, Elle. Why?" He whispered, before blushing, as he freed his coat from her clutches.

Marina was found in an abandoned storage room. Her hands and legs were tied up restricting her from moving. However, this effort seemed useless. As Marina had quickly lost her consciousness, from excessive bleeding. Fortunately, she is safe now and under proper medical care. For a few days, it would be hard for her to work, since her consciousness has not yet returned.

The head maid had broken her weak back and will soon be retiring. But Stella. For some reason, she is still not awake even after a whole day. Even the doctors couldn’t find the cause.

"Just what is wrong with her?" Caelestis asked the doctor, in panic, who had come to examine Stella.

"My lord, her bleeding has stopped, and her fever has gone down as well. I am not sure why she is not waking up." He stammered as he answered to the grand duke.

"You are all useless, Get out!" He yelled, losing his shit again.

"Your screaming is not going to wake her up." Eleanore stepped in, annoyed by his ignorance and usual anger. "Learn to suppress your anger."

Caelestis turned to her, "Who do you think you are, telling me what to do?"

"You need to leave, grand duke. For all you are causing is chaos." She said in a stern voice, before casting a look to Victor, who quickly understood the assignment and started pushing the grand duke out.

"Victor, you work under me. How dare you take orders from her?" He shouted.

"Because at the moment, I am not your secretary and just her friend." He had to put in a lot of strength to keep pushing him out of the room.

Once the nuisance was out, Eleanore turned to the doctor again. "So, what can we do?"

"We can only wait, your excellence." With a sad face, he left the room as well.

Eleanore exhaled, as she sat on the chair next to Stella. Silently, she caught her hand, gently stroking on the back of her palm, she whispered. "Please, wake up. I need you." She said,

Everything started to get messed up as soon as Stella shielded her from those assassins. The window hadn’t popped up since then. No penalty, no reward and no new notification, just the same old quest:
