Chapter 66: Chapter 65: Blame Game

After Victor left, Eleanore remained in her place for minutes, replaying the whole incident. The system gave no danger signals like last time, until Stella was truly in danger. Turns out, some events cannot be identified by the system. And why the heck did she freeze, when she should have been running away from the attacker to save herself.

Eleanore started upstairs, wondering where Caelestis might have taken Stella. With sheer luck, the butler just rushed to the staircase but was stopped by her. "Where is stella?" She asked.

"In the lord’s room." He answered, before continuing down, perhaps to grab something.

The doors to Caelestis’ dull room were open, she could hear panicked orders he was shooting on, over his poor servants. She inhaled, from exhaustion, before entering the room. Immediately his eyes fell on her and as if something was restricting her from moving any further, her feet stopped.

"Leave." He said in a rasping voice, but she had no intentions to do so.

"I didn’t know she would jump in between." her gaze lowered in guilt, when she saw Stella lying in the bed, bleeding oozing out of her body and forming a pool on the floor. She is not okay.

It was not her fault that she got hurt, she knew it. But then again, she froze and that’s why Stella was hurt. If Stella hadn’t come in between, she would have died. To some extent that would have been a lot better than having her heart filled with guilt.

"Because she is kind." His tone didn’t change.

The servants around them rushed out of the room sensing another war starting between the two. It would be best to stay out of their way.

"I know." She started walking closer, once everyone had left.

"Don’t come near her. It was all your fault." He could actually just catch hold of her neck again like last time. But he restrained himself, he didn’t want to hurt her again.

Moreover, unlike last time he didn’t really want to blame her. For one, he knew this was not Eleanore’s doing. This was a third party that wanted to take her life. Stella being kind and naive just fell into this mess. Yet he couldn’t restrain himself from blaming her. It just made everything so much easier. This way he could find someone, on whom he could redirect his anger.

"Please, I want to stay next to her." Eleanore clenches on her thin, silk nightgown. Her eyes welled up in tears as she spoke.

Before Caelestis could say anymore, Victor had arrived with the doctor. As soon as the doctor took over, everyone else left the room. For a long time, the three of them stood there in silence. Until Caelestis started with his shit again. He was way too angry and scared for Stella and he just wanted to take it out on someone.

But he was so wrong. He was just not going to have his way like always.

"This is all your fault." He said turning to Eleanore, who was shocked to hear his voice and his allegations coming out of nowhere.

Eleanore turned to him, somewhat annoyed by his words and his unending blames. "How is everything my fault?" She asked.

"Honestly, I am worried for Stella just as much as you are. Maybe more. But you can’t blame me for everything that goes wrong with her. It’s not my fault that I froze, when I saw that sword ready to strike me. I was scared. So, stop redirecting your anger over me." Eleanore finally lashed out at this dumb man.

"That poison was prepared for you and today the assassins also, were here for you." He shouted back at her, Victor tried to calm him down, but it didn’t work.

Eleanore was shocked for a while on hearing that all of these events were set to kill her, not Stella. Could it be those who tried to assassin her almost a year ago? Who are these people? The rebels.

"If you weren’t here—" He began, but Eleanore interrupted her with a loud scream.

"Ah! God! Why do you always blame me for everything? I’m tired and frustrated of you. It’s annoying. Just stop it already." She yelled at him, as if she had gone mad. Actually, she had. She was way too tired with maintaining her composure while dealing with him. She would rather act just as violent and bad-tempered brat like him.

’Why must I listen to his crap? Why must I take the blame for everything, even though I am not the one who did it?’

Eleanore walked forward to him, closing the distance between them. "Grand Duke. I didn’t know all those people here. Got it?" She continued to shout at this vile man.

"Well, if you weren’t here. They wouldn’t have come here at all." He said again.

She had had enough of this sad, egoistic, delusional man. No matter how she argues with him, he would still say the same shit. He completely ignores what the other party has to say. Sick!

"And What about me? What about the troubles I went through because of you and Stella?" She lowered her voice, barely getting through her anger. Her teeth greeted in a force so intense, that they could break each other in any moment. "I was hurt when I tried to save her in the balcony incident, you almost choked me to death because I tried to save her. All the trouble I went through, to bring you two closes. I almost fought with my best friend for her. But—"

Eleanore caught her collar, pulled him close to her face and glared into his eyes. "Have you ever heard me complaining or playing a blame game like you?"

For a second there, Caelestis was scared. It looked like if he said another word, she might actually blow up. So, he just stood there, letting her take the lead and almost scaring him to the core. Letting her eyes scare into the deepest of his soul.

"Don’t you dare tell me to leave. For I won’t. I will stay here for my friend. Is that clear?" She said, applying pressure on the last three words.

"Okay." He said, surprising Eleanore. She was expecting him to spit out some more dumb words, but he didn’t and that was strange but satisfying.
