Chapter 113: Chapter 112: The Lady, Eleanore Killed

"I was six." She began, but Flora didn’t stop. She knew another excuse was coming her way. "It was the darkest night of my life, after my father’s sudden death."

Flora stopped. This was the first time Eleanore had ever talked about her father or her mother. So, her feet stopped instinctively, however she had no desire to hear to this. Yet her body wouldn’t listen to her command.

"I was awoken by her in the middle of the night and locked up in a closet with soundproofing. I cried to her to not leave me in that dark place alone, but she didn’t listen." Eleanore started to get the flashes of that dream she had seen, two months ago. Her heart started getting heavy as she continued.

"In that suffocating, closed closet with few of my favourite clothes hanging above me, I could only hear swords clashing." Her gaze turned to Flora’s paused back.

"Moments later—" Her voice cracked, tears forming behind her eyes, but she held it in. She didn’t want to cry at that moment; it would be too embarrassing. "A sword pierced through the cabinet, and I held in my scream. That sword was laced with my mother’s blood."

Flora swirled around, her brows creating a hole between her eyes as she heard to all this.

"My brother said, I went numb after that day. To offer me a new environment, I was sent to Lancaster mansion to my godmother and godfather. My health had just gotten better but to my dismay, they two died soon after a few months."

They froze for a moment when their eyes met.

"Flora, when I was brought back to Sinclair mansion after that, I had forgotten everything. Grand duke kept asking where his mother went, but I had no answer for even that question."

"Elle—"

"The doctor said—" She closed her eyes as she continued. She didn’t want to see into those eyes filled with compassion. She didn’t want to cry yet, for she still had more to say. "I was traumatised and had pushed those memories into the extreme back of my brain. I don’t know what happened before the crown prince’s birthday, but something made me forget about a lot of things in my twenty years of life."

Flora didn’t say anything for a while. She gulped in the lump that had formed in her heart as she asked one question, if answered she would forget everything and hold her best friend’s hand again. "What happened at the Lancaster mansion?" She asked.

Out of all the questions she could ask, it had to be this one. Eleanore could never answer this. It is a top secret, if shared that would endanger Flora’s life. She just can’t.

"I can’t tell you." Eleanore shook her head.

"But why?" Flora raised her voice. "Why can’t you tell me, after telling me everything about your medical condition. What happened there that you have to hide it more than your medical condition?"

"It’s a matter of confidentiality. I can’t tell you. It would endanger you and the grand duke might want to hurt you because of that. Moreover, if I start saying one thing, I’ll have to say everything."

"I don’t mind getting harmed by that wretched grand duke. I don’t fear him. So just tell me what happened." Flora takes a few steps forward ready to hear this secret.

"No, I can’t. I won’t. Never." Eleanore got out of the chair. "We signed a confidentiality agreement. I can’t put you or others related to it in danger."

"What does that agreement say?" She asks.

"Flora, please don’t ask me about those two months. Think of it as if it never happened." Eleanore begs.

"No, I know. You are hiding something from me." She barked. "This is all a play. You said that sad story so that you could hide those two months."

"I did. That’s true. I told those stories so that you would forget about those damn two months. I told you my biggest insecurity to save you, damn it! Why don’t you get it?" She barked back at her, anger boiling in her veins.

"Ha!" She scoffed. "I doubt those insecurities of yours are even real."

"Flora?" She shouts. "How could you?"

"All of this is a lie. You do not even want me as your friend. I know it." She walks to Eleanore and holds her by her shoulder. "This is all an act. You are trying to silence me, so that I don’t tell anyone about your dirty work."

"What dirty work?" Eleanore was puzzled.

"Oh? You forgot about that?" She asked, her eyes widened as she reminded her of that night. "Lady Barbara. Did you forget her, Eleanore? Did you forget what you did to her, huh?"

"Flora! I don’t know what you are talking about." She tries to get out of her grasp, but her strength fell short.

As she fought, suddenly Flora let her go and Eleanore lost balance as she fell on the ground. Marina rushed back to her mistress. She had come back from outside the garden immediately after she heard their loud voices. But didn’t stop them as Eleanore had ordered her to not interfere until the need arrives.

"My Lady." She holds her mistress, as her gaze turns back to Flora.

Flora cried as she pointed at her friend. "We killed her, Eleanore Sinclair. You were involved in her death. Your dear brother saved you that day. But for how long?" She laughs and then suddenly screams. "I will tell everyone. I won’t let you shut my mouth up like others. I am the king’s niece. You can’t play with me."

Eleanore was completely stunned. She had no idea who this Lady Barbara was. How is she related to her death? How did she dispose off the witness? Nothing. She knew nothing.

"Flora, I would never do that to you. Believe me. Please trust me. Don’t break this friendship between us, it will break me. It will break you."

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" Eleanore noticed a wave of madness in her eyes, the kind she had never seen.

What’s happening?

"She was right." Flora murmurs as she covers her ears like before. "She was right." Her gaze moved back to Eleanore. "Our friendship is over, Eleanore Sinclair. Everything is over. Do not approach me anymore. I don’t even want to see your face again.

With that, Flora ran out of the garden, leaving Eleanore in complete agony. "What is going on?" She asked Marina, as she clenched on her broken heart. "Why is she acting like that, Marina? Why?"

"Don’t worry my lady, everything will be fine." She hugged her, warmly as she looked at Lady Flora’s disappearing back, puzzled and confused.
