Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead-Chapter 112 - 111: A Friend’s Grievances
Flora had arrived at the Sinclair mansion on the very next day of their fight. She had received an invitation this morning from Eleanore. At first, she had no desire to meet her ex best friend but then felt curious to find out what new excuse she would have arranged for her.
When her carriage pulled over inside the courtyard of Sinclair mansion, she found Eleanore waiting for her. They always welcomed each other like that. That’s a normal gesture every aristocrat should show to each other.
"Good evening, dear friend." Eleanore says with a smile that depicted nervousness, tension and a hint of uncertainty.
"Yes, good evening, Lady Eleanore." Flora sounded cold as she got off the carriage.
It took a while for Eleanore to digest this awkwardness and rift between them, as if they were strangers. "Let us talk on a cup of tea, Flora."
"Lady—" Flora corrects her. "You forgot to put the prefix, Lady Eleanore."
Eleanore gulps at that, as if her throat was being choked with those words. "Yes, Lady Flora, please follow me."
She takes her to a table set in the garden, so that they could have this conversation in some open air. Last night, after returning home, she finally asked her brother the reason behind her losing most of her memories. It was a bit difficult to have Hael spit it all out. He wouldn’t say anything, until she revealed that she remembers how their mother and father died.
Marina quickly poured the tea for the two, before leaving the area, as per Eleanore’s guidelines. Flora looks at the pink grass tea and smirks, feeling disappointed.
"I hate pink grass tea." She speaks. "Don’t you remember?"
Eleanore’s eyes widened, she had no idea about any of this. "I apologise, I—"
"Right. I forgot." She cut her off. "You don’t remember anything." Flora sets aside the tea and rests her chin on the back of her palm, while her elbows gave it support, by resting on the table.
"Tell me, Lady Eleanore? Do you remember how we met?" She asked with a smirk.
"No," Eleanore held her breath as she waited for the next questions that were about to be thrown her way.
"We met at our debut ball, around thirteen years of age, if I am not wrong."
"Ah!" Eleanore still couldn’t quite picture it.
"Do you remember our escape spot from those dreadful parties?"
Eleanore inhaled as she realised, she doesn’t have an answer for that too.
"Lady Eleanore, do you?" She tilted her head, expecting an answer.
However, she couldn’t bear to answer and just shook her head.
"I thought so." She leaned back, resting her one leg on the other. "It was the mermaid fountain; I took you too yesterday."
Flora then rolled her eyes, "Hmm, let’s see. Do you remember the first time you told me about your crush on the grand duke?"
This time, Eleanore didn’t answer at all, instead she had her head hanging low. Feeling shameful for forgetting a childhood friend so important.
"It was right for here."
Eleanore raised her head; her eyes filled with guilt. "Why are you asking me when you know I have—"
"Oh, no. I was just reminding you, since you claim that you have forgotten everything." She laughs.
"Flora!" Eleanore was shocked to see her talking in that tone. A tone she had never heard from her before. It just felt so weird and wrong at the same time.
She stops laughing and wears a serious expression. "Do you know who your mother was?" She asks.
"Flora?" Eleanore feels helpless.
"What about your dead father, your brother or let’s consider the grand duke? Do you know them or not?"
"You are not getting it." Eleanore cracks out. "I remember everyone, even you. Just not a few memories related to them."
"And none related to me?" She added.
"Flora, I only started getting back the memories of my mother and father."
"Okay, fine. I got it. Do you remember the time we bullied Stella together, or the time she entered the noble world, the hunting festival. Grand duke’s first partner in decades? Do you?"
"I—" She goes quiet, for these are the things she remembers clearly, as they are all related to Caelestis and Stella.
"You do have memories of those two people, probably even your brother. You must have memories of every living being except me. Why?" She yelled.
"Flora?" Eleanore was in disbelief at this point.
True, it was not fair that she had forgotten about only her. But how is that her fault? She took over this body halfway, how is she supposed to have memories of a side character?
Side Character?
That’s when Eleanore realised, she never gave importance to Flora. The kind she deserved. In her eyes, she was always just a side character that got lost when the side villain dies.
"I’m so sorry, Flora." She covers her mouth with her palm in astonishment. She couldn’t believe it. How sad must it have felt when you were neglected by your best friend for months. That too after putting in your best efforts to maintain that relationship.
"It’s too late." Flora looks away, folding her arms around her chest.
"Flora, I want to mend this relationship between us."
"Oh please!" She waves away Eleanore’s late realisation.
"There is no point in fighting. This way we will not be able to deal with our grievances with each other."
"Grievances?" Flora was shocked to hear that word. "The only person who should have grievances is me, Eleanore." She shouts, as she gets out of her chair.
"You are right, it should be you. This is about you, not me. Flora you—"
"God!" She shouts in anger, covering her ears, tired of listening to her rubbish. "Just shut up! Please." She shouts again, before starting to walk away from her, unable to listen to any more of her excuses.
Eleanore felt anxious, she had to say something to stop her. Somehow, anyhow. That’s when she remembered her brother’s story from yesterday and decided to narrate it word by word.
