Chapter 111: Chapter 110: The Ridiculous Task

Eleanore could not believe the translucent screen hanging in front of her. She had her forehead in her palm, as the smell of her usual tea was making its way to her nostrils, her head hurt less due to it. It could be her imagination, but her head had truly gone silent after tremendous throbbing session.

This damn system, it somehow knows how to make things difficult for her. Even without saying it, she was going to do it anyway. However, the problem wasn’t there, it was the ridiculous task they had asked her to complete.

|| Chapter 4: Marriage Of Happiness (Revised)

Caelestis could never digest the fact that his love was taken away by none other than his best friend in the original. He who had left his throne in search of his wife of a few months, was heartbroken to find out that she was now with Hael Sinclair. His once best friend and now his formidable enemy.

With rageful eyes and madness running through his veins, he attacks the hideout, defeats his friend and wins back his love, but she now refuses to go with him. Stella reveals her love for her kidnapper and her hatred for him.

Caelestis couldn’t accept the fact that she no longer needed it, that she wouldn’t look at him. Thus, instead of waiting for the right time, he chose to attack the entire rebel army himself. But how can a single person kill an army of thousands? It was a suicide mission from the beginning. He meets his end. It was an end he chose and a death full of regrets.

This time, his lief and destiny changed because (you) Eleanore Sinclair is still alive. But the man who has loved someone so much that he was ready to die when she refused to be with him, could do anything this time as well.

"What kind of absurd task is this?" She said out loud, as she sighed the tenth time this morning.

"My lady, is something the matter?" Marina asks, folding away the last piece of petticoat and setting it aside.

"Yes, my life sucks. That’s the matter." She picks up the cup that was set half an hour ago and had probably gone completely cold.

Before she could take a sip, Marina stops her. "Don’t drink that, let me bring you a new one." She says, taking away the cup from her mistress and stepping out of the room.

She headed to the kitchen, but stopped at the foot of it, when she heard her mistress’ name being called out by a mere maid of the family.

"Lady Eleanore? For real?" The other one involved in the gossip gasped. She couldn’t believe her ears and the things she had just heard.

"Yes, haven’t I always told you that she is a cunning woman?" The one spreading the rumour continued. "To be honest, I think this is all an act. This all started four months ago."

"True, her sudden change in behaviour was truly strange."

"I think getting her brother involved with the Baroness was also probably part of her plan." Another one jumped in, as she picked up a few vegetables to cut while sitting on the table.

"That’s what I have been telling her, but she just wouldn’t believe me." The first one said.

"It’s just too unbelievable. The Lady would never do that to her own brother. After all, he is her only family."

"You are too dumb, Celine." She cut the tomato in half and then proceeded to cut it into small pieces.

"Listen well, Lady Eleanore is using this new tactic to win over the Grand duke. Her madness was not working anymore, so she had that Baroness get married to the duke." The maid continued to spread this false rumour.

"Moreover, she is the type who would sacrifice their own family to the fire of madness, love and obsession." She picked up a new vegetable.

"Looks like you all have nothing to do today." Marina enters the kitchen. "That’s why you all are spreading such nonsensical rumours."

She walks up to their table and slams on it hard, "One more time I hear you two talk shit about my mistress, I will kick you out of this mansion. And believe me, I can do that." She warns the two-gossiping maids.

Then she turns to Celine. "Boil me the tea." She orders, and Celine immediately gets out of her seat, takes the tray from Marina’s hand and rushes to the stove to heat it up.

Celine was too scared. It is hard enough to survive in this mansion and now she got involved with those two maids, who were creating rumours against the only lady of the Mansion. As she squatted there, blowing in the fire, to direct its flames to the kettle. She could only wish to her dear god, that Marina doesn’t take her name when complaining to her mistress.

"How long do you think you will stay here, Marina?" Maria, the maid cutting the vegetables, glared at her. "Once the Lady gets married, you will be out of here too."

"Right, but right now she isn’t married to anyone. Which means she is still the sole Lady of Sinclair Dukedom, in a position equal to the duke. You, on the other hand, are no one. So, shut up and stop being a bitch."

Marina’s bold words had always made her receive hate from the other servants. She was never able to get along with them, and she didn’t mind it. Marina loved to be alone, holding her head high, saying whatever she wanted and never feeling any regret of not standing against a bully.

"Honestly, Marina. I can’t wait to see you leave this mansion. Once you are gone, I will be the personal maid of the new madam. Then we’ll see who is mightier. For your Lady will never be able to go anywhere higher than a Marquise’s family." She continues, her petty argument. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Maria, dear. Don’t you know? My Lady is the crown princess candidate, for your kind information." She moves her face closer to her, glaring into her pretty amber eyes. "You will still have to bow to me. This thing will never change until you die."

"You—"

"The tea is ready." Celine stepped in, scared that a fight would erupt at any moment.

Marina continued to glare at Maria for a while, before turning to Celine, with a hint of smile on her face. "Come with me, Celin." She orders.

Celine feels cold sweat dripping down her spine. "Yes." She shutters.

They were halfway through and would reach Lady Eleanore’s bedroom in no time. Celine was somehow relieved that she could leave after handing over the tray back to Marina and wouldn’t need to face the Lady as well. But her happiness vanished, when Marina stopped her.

"Celine." She turns to the shivering Celine. "Let me give you a piece of advice, stay away from Maria and Karin. They are not very kind people. You are young and your family’s situation too isn’t very good, so focus on work. Instead of snooping around on others, understand?"

"I didn’t snoop around on anyone." Celine tries to defend herself.

"I know you didn’t do it willingly." Marina sighed, "Thus, I won’t tell the Lady about it."

Celine shivers more on hearing that. She didn’t want to eavesdrop on Lady Eleanore, she was just forced by her seniors, especially Maria and Karin. If she hadn’t listened to their words, they would have made her life worse than an animal in the mansion, and she couldn’t afford that. It was her plan to silently work at the mansion, get a promotion and feed her family.

Marina placed her hand on one of her shoulders, "I am not trying to scare you. I know what you want is a peaceful work life. But believe me, Celine, you cannot achieve it like this." She took the tray away from her.

"Those two didn’t only bully you. They bullied me in the past as well, but I survived, and you will too. Fight for yourself." Marina takes a few steps ahead.

"How?" Celine asks.

"By being strong, ignorant and rude like me." She answers and swirls around, wearing a kind smile. "You are a good girl Celine, I will see how I can help you." saying that Marina leaves the hallway, leaving a kind soul with a valuable advice to survive in the world she doesn’t belong.

She enters her mistress’ room and pours a cup of tea for her. "My Lady, can I ask you something?" she says to her distressed Eleanore.

"What is it?" Eleanore takes a sip of her tea and immediately feels a wave of relief.

"The baroness is going to be the Duchess, correct?" She asks.

"I hope so."

"Then, when you look for a kind maid that has the potential to be as clever and witty as me, can you recommend Celine from the kitchen?" It was a request.

"A kitchen maid, what does she do?" Eleanore asks, considering the possibility of looking for a fine maid for her friend.

"Cleaning dishes."

"That means she is new."

"But she is kind and foolish like me. I see my reflection in her." Marina urges.

Eleanore smiles on receiving Marina’s first selfless request. "I will consider her after I see how talented she is."
