Chapter 484: Playing husband and wife

Qie Xieling might have said that to him but he didn’t mean it. Let who go? From the day Luo Muchen provoked him first there was no way he was ever going to let him go.

Luo Muchen almost subconsciously answered that he didn’t have to share him but when he recalled that he needed to marry into the Zi family to become clan leader he stopped himself. This had been his goal for years ever since his father brought him back. He wanted to do this for himself. That was his main focus and he wasn’t going to let anyone ruin it for him. But ever since Qie Xieling came he was wavering and when he tried to push him away the moment he saw him he would lose control of his emotions... just like now.

"I will... let you go. If that’s what you want but... only after we return," he said and Qie Xieling glared at him his anger burning within him, yet he managed to reign it in, his voice steady but laced with determination.

"Okay... but until then, you will treat me as your wife," he declared, his words hanging heavy in the air. "You will wait on me like your wife, introduce me as your wife, call me wife and you will stay with me, sleep with me just like your wife. Agreed?"

Qie Xieling finished handing him a list of conditions and Luo Muchen stood there, stiff and silent, his gaze fixed on Qie Xieling’s eyes, seemingly lost in their depths. The weight of his words and the intensity of his stare left Luo Muchen breathless, unable to comprehend the storm of emotions swirling within him.

"Starting now," Qie Xieling announced, his voice filled with resolve before he closed the distance between them. He pressed his lips against Luo Muchen’s, a bittersweet mixture of longing and anger intertwining in that passionate kiss.

Qie Xieling, fueled by a mix of desire and frustration, took Luo Muchen’s hand in his own and led him away, his fingers wrapped around Luo Muchen’s wrist. Luo Muchen’s eyes couldn’t help but follow Qie Xieling’s swaying, cascading locks of hair, shimmering under the soft moonlight. The sight stirred a longing within him, a desire to caress Qie Xieling’s waist as he did on their wedding night. Yet, he restrained himself, his self-control battling against the surge of emotions coursing through his veins.

As they walked he couldn’t help but steal glances at their joined hands, his heart racing with a mix of confusion and anticipation. He was caught in the enigmatic spell that Qie Xieling seemed to cast, unable to fully comprehend the depth of his feelings.

Qie Xieling stopped when they reached the campsite and Luo Muchen stood behind him looking down at the crown of Qie Xieling’s hair. He subconsciously took a step forward his chest almost pressing against Qie Xieling’s back. It was like he was being pulled by an invisible string towards Qie Xieling.

"Where are we going to sleep?" he asked and Luo Muchen glanced at his carriage that Zi Mixen was probably occupying waiting for him.

"You should kick her out," said Qie Xieling when he saw him staring at the carriage. Luo Muchen was a little hesitant and it was visible on his face. Qie Xieling shamelessly swung Luo Muchen’s arm while saying, "Chen-ge, you promised. So you will let your wife sleep outside... in the cold."

Luo Muchen, "..."

This wasn’t the first time someone had acted coquettish towards him but this was the first time he was mesmerized. For some reason, he wanted to please him and do whatever he wanted.

"... I can but she is sick. It’s too cold outside," he said only for Qie Xieling to let go of Luo Muchen’s hand abruptly. He crossed his arms on his chest with a look of annoyance. She was sick indeed but she was more sick in the head. Who in their right mind would slip into a married man’s carriage while his wife wasn’t dead?

Qie Xieling was planning on throwing a tantrum if he didn’t change his mind. Luo Muchen tried to hold his arm and calm him down but Qie Xieling dodged his hand.

His heart pounded with a mix of anger and hurt as he gazed away from Luo Muchen the tension between them palpable. Qie Xieling could feel the weight of unspoken words hanging in the air.

He suddenly heard Luo Muchen’s footsteps. It appeared that he just left him standing there without a word. This guy just left without coaxing him. The words ’bad husband’ rang in Qie Xieling’s head as he kicked at the pebbles scattered on the ground. Each pebble shattered under the force of his rage, mirroring his shattered heart.

While he was brooding like an injured hamster a sudden commotion took his attention. He turned around, his eyes widening in surprise. Luo Muchen had brought over one of Zi Mixen’s maidservants to help her young miss out of his carriage. Zi Mixen was a bit embarrassed. She tried to use her ailment and weak body to draw his sympathy. She hoped he would stay with her tonight if not then he at least let her stay in the carriage but who would have thought he would directly kick her out?

When she got down she stumbled forward, coughing uncontrollably. She hoped Luo Muchen would catch her. Even the maidservant didn’t reach out to help her. That’s because her young miss had told her not to. Unexpectedly, it was Qie Xieling who caught her. In a swift motion, he moved between Luo Muchen and Zi Mixen and helped her.

She looked up with teary eyes but to her surprise, it wasn’t Luo Muchen but Qie Xieling. She quickly concealed her emotions and whispered, "Thank you."

"You are welcome. Just be more careful next time," said Qie Xieling before letting her go. He suddenly felt a chill down his spine. It was cold but it wasn’t that cold.

He stepped back before he bumped into Luo Muchen. The move seemed accidental but when she saw him pull Luo Muchen’s hand and place it on his waist she knew this was no accident. What surprised her even more was that Luo Muchen didn’t remove his hand. He even tightened his grip slightly.
