Chapter 561: Aftermath

"Good game, Brother Taher." Sheva smiled exhaustedly. However, his eyes were still shining brightly, too excited with the result.

"Yes, good game," In contrast, Taher just smiled stiffly, as if he was forced to do so.

In hindsight, though, that was definitely the reality. After fighting for more than 70 moves, Taher finally threw the game away, and in the end, with Sheva managed to get a queen promotion, the man knew that he couldn’t do anything but resign.

That didn’t mean he had to like it, though. He was filled with regret right now, inwardly lamenting his mistake and falling into the ’what-ifs’ scenarios on what could happen on the board.

Oh, yeah, he was a bad loser here, somehow still feeling sour after he was so close to getting a draw out of this game.

"You are just lucky, Shev," He grumbled grumpily. "I only have five minutes left remaining when the mistake was made. If only I had a little bit more time..." His voice trailed behind, but the implication was clear.

It seemed the man truly believed that he was able to hold on until the end. Of course, Sheva, with his competitive side, would never let even the what-ifs scenario slide easily.

"Bah! You are also lucky that I slipped before, or the game would’ve been over way sooner than this!" He retorted amusedly. "So... Just treat it as me giving you a chance, before I think you don’t deserve it and take it away from you, okay?" He smirked smugly, eyes full of provocation.

"Why, you?!" Taher gritted his teeth, not expecting the boy to have no respect for his senior at all.

Still, after calming down a little bit, the man just let out a helpless sigh, knowing full well that this defeat was not just because of mere luck. He could feel the pressure almost all the time from the boy in this game, enough to make him slip in a crucial moment. That was when Sheva landed his decisive strike, sending him to a shadow realm.

It might seem that Sheva was lucky here, but the ability to spot the opponent’s mistake was also something crucial that a player must have. Taher couldn’t expect that his mistake would go unnoticed by his opponent all the time, right?

After exchanging more pleasantry—with Sheva throwing out more playful teasing, of course—they both finally left the table, followed by quiet applause from the spectators nearby. As he walked out of the venue hall, Sheva yawned quite big; exhaustion really hit the toll here.

"Damn, I forgot what it feels like to have a double-header day like this. Better get used to it tomorrow, or this tournament will kill me soon." He muttered under his breath.

He still had the energy left to accept some photos from the fans, but the moment he entered the broadcast room, at the sight of his best friend, who was still busy handling the streaming, he felt the energy sipped away from his shoulder.

’Damn! This is troublesome!’ He scowled, throwing his body against the couch immediately. ’How could I get tired so easily?’

[Because you have been slacking off on your physical training, Host. Your mission of physical training for 30 days in a row has not made any progress at all.] Came the cold reply from the system.

Before Sheva could answer that, he got another notification popping into his head.

[DING! EMERGENCY MISSION ISSUED!]

[Due to Host’s negligence, Host’s body has started to decline! Pick up your running shoes again and start moving, Young Man!]

[Mission: Complete your mission in the next three months!]

[Reward: The same.]

[Punishment: Secret.]

’Wait, what the fuck?! No new reward, but adding a punishment?! Are you kidding me, System?!’ Sheva widened his eyes in shock and disbelief.

[This is a necessary step to motivate you, Host.] The system replied coldly. [The System has data already, telling that the Host will only be able to stay consistent in the training for at least five days. After that, the Host will be back to his lazy state, nullifying all the progress that has made earlier.]

Sheva had a cold sweat when he heard that. The boy also couldn’t deny that he was a bit of a weak-willed person when it came to physical training, always falling to the heavy gravitational force of his comfortable bed. Still...

’What is the punishment here, System? Come out and don’t act so mysterious!’ He demanded quickly.

[Don’t worry, Host. The system will ensure that everything will be fit and appropriate.]

’That... Was the biggest reason for me to worry.’ Sheva felt the corner of his lips twitching madly.

Still, honestly, Sheva had never noticed up until now that he was being spoiled by the system. After all, in all the novels that featured a system, it was always harsh and sometimes ridiculous, giving a lot of impossible tasks just for shit and giggles.

Then, here he was, with the system that fit his career quite well. It was always helpful, giving him the necessary tools to thrive, and more importantly, it had never given any mission with a punishment for failure.

Yeah, this was the first time the system gave a punishment reminder like this, and that was why Sheva was worried here. He didn’t know the system’s style in this regard, so he had to be prepared for anything from a torturous one, like having his physical training doubled with him losing control over his body, or a humiliating one, like he had to wear something ridiculous in public.

That... Scared the shit out of him.

As he waited in the broadcast room while also chatting with the system, time passed by quickly. Then, after a while, the boy noticed a familiar girl frolicking in his direction, the ponytail hair behind her dancing left and right as a mirror to her current mood.

Just by that one look, he knew exactly her result in this round. Nevertheless, the boy still asked the question. "So, how is it?"

The girl, Anna, just grinned as a reply, showing a peaceful sign while chirping, "Good! Of course, I will win!"
