Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 53: Jonas Hawthorne, Do You Really Have to Treat Me This Way?
"Enough."
Raine Sinclair didn’t want to watch anymore; her clear voice was devoid of any sentiment.
Because of her words, the two men in front of her simultaneously fell silent and looked at her.
"Raine, it’s windy outside, let me take you home," Leon Grant spoke first.
He didn’t want Raine and Jonas Hawthorne to have any further entanglements.
Before Raine could respond, Jonas blocked her, "I have something to say to you."
For a moment, the three of them were at a stalemate again.
Raine was silent for a moment, then looked up at Jonas, "I said there’s nothing more to say between us."
After speaking, she turned her gaze to Leon, "You should head back too."
Not waiting for their response, she said everything she needed and turned to go home.
Leon was quite satisfied with this outcome and didn’t attempt to stop her, but Jonas wouldn’t allow it.
"You haven’t transferred the Maplewood Manor villa yet."
His cold voice carried an interrogation, devoid of any emotion, leaving only the shrewdness and calculation of a businessman.
Raine suddenly stopped in her tracks, her face turning somber.
Maplewood Manor...
That was her dowry!
During their two-year marriage, Jonas never paid attention to that place. She didn’t understand why he offered three times the market price for that property during their divorce.
At the time, to quickly get the divorce papers, Raine didn’t ask much and just signed her name.
Recently, she had been busy with the Sinclair Group’s issues and completely forgot about this matter.
If Jonas hadn’t brought it up, she probably wouldn’t have cared at all.
Turning around coldly, she fixed her gaze on Jonas in front of her, suddenly feeling that even though they had known each other for so many years, even though they had been husband and wife, sharing a bed for so many nights, she never really knew him.
"Why do you want Maplewood Manor?"
Her distant and indifferent voice was a constant reminder to Jonas that their relationship was no longer like anything before.
Jonas didn’t answer directly but turned to look at Leon, "Mr. Grant, do you plan to listen to our family matters?"
The implication was that he didn’t want Leon to hear what he and Raine were about to say next.
Leon’s eyes darkened slightly. Although he didn’t want the current situation to occur, he wouldn’t stop Raine, only saying, "Call me if anything comes up."
"Okay." Raine nodded, not thinking much about it. At this moment, all her attention was on Jonas.
She wanted to know what on earth he was trying to do!
The marriage was over, so why keep tangling things up repeatedly?
Leon looked back at the two of them before getting into the car and leaving.
Once he was gone, it was just Jonas and Raine left in this space.
When they were together in the past, regardless of whether others were present, the atmosphere was always warm.
But now...
Perhaps with others present, they might restrain themselves, but once alone, the surrounding air seemed to freeze, cold and biting.
"Answer me." Raine didn’t have time to stare blankly at him and continued pursuing.
Jonas furrowed his brows tightly.
He actually wasn’t interested in Maplewood Manor; during the divorce, he just wanted to give her more compensation.
Directly giving money, knowing her personality, she would absolutely reject it.
He could only use another method.
As for just now... he was merely trying to find a reason to keep her in a moment of desperation, which was why he mentioned Maplewood Manor.
Looking down at the face that lingered day and night in his mind, Jonas found himself at a loss for words.
He was used to seeing her trying hard to find topics to talk about in front of him and adjusting the atmosphere, but now suddenly becoming so aggressive, distant, he felt quite unaccustomed to it.
Raine didn’t know what he was thinking, just watched him looking at her indifferently without speaking, assuming the situation might be serious.
Recalling Candace Ford’s visit to the hospital in the afternoon, she seemed to realize something, letting out a cold laugh, "Could it be your white moonlight doesn’t feel comfortable and wants to change places to nurture the fetus?"
The villa they lived in when they got married was reportedly a house Candace and Jonas had their eyes on before, and she, knowing nothing, foolishly thought it would be a warm home belonging to her and Jonas...
In hindsight, it turned out everything was just a joke.
She no longer had any illusions or expectations of him.
His actions, what he cherished in his heart, was always his white moonlight.
Hearing her words, Jonas slightly furrowed his brows. The words to deny it came to his lips, but seeing her sharp and distant eyes, for some reason, what he said out loud was, "And if that’s the case?"
He probably would never know that these few words thrown out casually turned into sharp blades, stabbing Raine’s heart over and over.
"Hah..." she scoffed coldly, and the last shred of dignity was utterly trampled by him!
So it was really for Candace.
Indeed, she already predicted this outcome, so why did she ask again and again?
Back then, it didn’t feel like much, but now she’s determined to stand her ground!
"That was my dowry, and I will never give it to you!" she said through gritted teeth, staring firmly at the man before her.
The clarity in her eyes no longer held any love, not even hatred... slowly dissipating.
Hating someone means at least still having some attachment to them.
But if there’s not even hatred left, that’s when you’re truly free of entanglement, right?
Jonas suddenly realized that compared to Raine completely forgetting him, he’d rather let her hate him! 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
At least this way, he might still hold a little space in her heart...
"Raine Sinclair, you’ve already signed the contract, and you want to back out?" He raised his brow, his expression cold and completely devoid of any warmth.
Little did he know, Raine was experiencing the agony of being shot through the heart during these moments!
He had already driven her out, she had given up her place and title, yet he still covets her dowry?
She didn’t understand what kind of man she had chosen back then?
Did he have to push her to this extreme?
All the past events, unguarded, came flooding back to her mind again, causing her eyes to well up, uncontrollably questioning, "Jonas Hawthorne, how much do I owe you? Do you have to treat me like this?
My youth, my infatuation, my title, aren’t those enough? And now you want my dowry...
That manor was left to me by my grandmother! Can you just take it because you say so? I haven’t taken anything from the Hawthorne Family! Yet you come to claim what’s mine!"
She who prided herself on being strong, in matters of emotion, was merely a fragile little girl!
How could she endure such relentless pressure and mercilessness from him?
Raine bit down hard, not wanting to cry, not wanting him to see her in distress!
But...
The surge of emotions, like a runaway horse, was beyond her control even if she wanted to.
