Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 54: I Never Knew You Were Such a Crybaby
Maybe it’s because she truly loved deeply that these few words could hurt her so profoundly...
Before this, Raine Sinclair always thought she was strong and indestructible.
It turns out it was just because she hadn’t reached the point of true heartbreak.
Jonas Hawthorne never expected that his casual words would make her cry again.
Watching the woman before him with a nose red from crying, for the first time since birth, he felt such regret.
It was the same last time, just a few words.
Somewhere deep in his heart softened suddenly, and Jonas Hawthorne’s tone eased, adding a touch of gentleness when he spoke again.
"I never knew you love to cry so much."
He always thought she was so optimistic and cheerful, loved to laugh, and wouldn’t be bothered even if the sky fell.
Compared to that, the soft and weak Candace Ford seemed to need his protection more.
At this moment, Raine Sinclair was trapped in her own world, not in the mood to ponder the meaning behind his words.
She just felt so pathetic!
She once believed nothing could hurt her, not expecting that she would hand this dagger to Jonas Hawthorne herself!
"Looking at me like this now, you must think it’s hilarious, right?" She laughed bitterly to herself, wiped her cheek, and took a deep breath, "Just go, I will never give you Maplewood Manor. If you want to take legal action, go to court; let’s see who gets embarrassed, you or me!"
After saying those words, Raine Sinclair suddenly felt much lighter inside.
She realized that occasionally being a bit brazen might not be so bad.
Since the other party kept pushing her, wouldn’t she be wronging herself if she continued to yield?
Jonas Hawthorne frowned as he watched her turn sideways, the cold moonlight illuminating her thin shoulders, making her look as if sculpted from ice and snow.
The lonely and pure aura deeply attracted him.
Yet she was telling him to leave.
"It’s all clearly written on paper, do you want to go back on it?"
He asked.
"You promised never to divorce when we got married, and what came of that? Didn’t you go back on it too?"
Raine Sinclair scoffed lightly, not taking it seriously at all.
Turning completely away from him, she took a deep breath and walked forward, a satisfied smile on her lips.
How wonderful, she finally wasn’t obsessed with him anymore.
How wonderful, she would no longer just revolve around him...
Listening to her sarcasm, Jonas Hawthorne felt as if an invisible hand was clutching his heart fiercely.
Watching her walk away, he instinctively reached out to grab her, but regrettably... all that slipped through his fingers was thin air.
The intense sense of detachment seemed to tug at his entire soul.
"Leon Grant isn’t as simple as you think."
An involuntary and desolate voice escaped his lips.
Raine Sinclair paused slightly and sneered, "Mr. Hawthorne should mind himself!"
Among the descendants of these prominent families, apart from fools, how many are truly simple?
"He approached you possibly with ulterior motives." Jonas Hawthorne continued.
Upon hearing this, Raine Sinclair’s smile grew even more helpless.
She turned around, looking at him from across the void of night.
"What could he plot? The Grant Family is vast and wealthy; would he care about the Sinclair Family’s assets? Or is he eyeing me, a recently divorced woman?"
Deliberately belittling herself like this, Raine Sinclair simply couldn’t figure out what could possibly interest others about her!
"Raine, you..."
Jonas Hawthorne frowned, about to say something, but Raine Sinclair interrupted sharply, "Enough, stop talking, I don’t want to hear it!"
For the first time, Raine Sinclair stood fiercely in front of Jonas Hawthorne.
She felt a strength and sense of control she had never experienced before.
Previously, it was always Jonas Hawthorne who ended the conversation; no matter what they were discussing, as soon as he said he was tired of it, the topic would end immediately.
But now, she was the one making decisions.
Her thoughts shifted in an instant, and Raine Sinclair suddenly remembered something that had been bothering her for a while, abruptly asking, "Did you get hurt? Almost lost your life?"
Jonas Hawthorne’s dark eyes sank, "Who told you?"
"Is it true?" Raine Sinclair was stunned.
She only asked casually; after all, she had inquired through every available channel and no one knew about it.
Since that’s the case, she thought she might as well ask him directly.
And Jonas Hawthorne’s reaction just gave her an answer.
"..." Jonas Hawthorne was silent for a moment, seemingly unwilling to bring up the past, "Old tales are not worth mentioning."
"Leo Keane said it was because of me." Raine Sinclair was eager to learn the truth.
He didn’t want to mention it, but she was determined to know.
Hopefully, it had nothing to do with her, or else she’d feel even guiltier.
"It’s not true." Jonas Hawthorne said, swiftly lowering his gaze, then turned away from Raine Sinclair, "This afternoon, thank you."
After speaking, he started walking long strides across the street.
Raine Sinclair stood still, watching his gradually receding figure, her mind filled with their past...
Sweet moments, arguments, indifference, heartache...
Thinking it could last forever, but it only lasted three and a half years.
After getting into the car, Jonas Hawthorne instinctively glanced back but found Raine Sinclair’s figure was gone.
The Sinclair Family’s gate was closed tightly, and the grand building seemed to be touched by the cold breeze of the night, gaining a hint of indifference.
"Let’s go." He whispered faintly before leaning back into the seat and closing his eyes.
The driver wisely said nothing and quickly started the car, gradually driving away from the Sinclair Family home.
——
Raine Sinclair returned home to find the living room lights still on, her father lying on the sofa flipping through a photo album. He looked up at her upon hearing the sound.
"Raine is back? Come over, look, these are all your childhood photos!"
As Raine Sinclair walked over, she glanced at the kitchen, finding the lights off, "Where’s Mom?"
"She’s tired, went upstairs to rest. Come on, keep your dad company for a bit." Evan Sinclair gestured at her, looking in a good mood.
"Dad, what are you looking at?" Raine Sinclair leaned over to see.
Evan Sinclair handed a page of the photo album in front of her, "You used to be great at piano, won many awards. Without these photos, I would have almost forgotten!"
As he spoke, Raine Sinclair had already seen the photo of her wearing a white dress performing at the youth palace.
Not just her father, it had been so many years, even she had almost forgotten.
"Yeah, haven’t played in a long time..."
Evan Sinclair smiled, shifting his gaze from the photo of his daughter to the present daughter.
It’s hard to believe, the little girl who always needed him to hold her back then was almost a mother now.
"Raine, tell Dad, between Mason Sullivan and Leon Grant, which young man do you prefer?"
