Chapter 83: Unpredictable (1)

"W-what?" Elise couldn’t understand how things turned out this way.

"Addie, she’s lying! Why would I do something as despicable as that? That nurse is just causing discord between us." Camilla said desperately, while Adrienne’s face remained pensive. It was hard to tell what Adrienne was thinking at that moment.

"But she said that Elise was the one who devised the plan? How did Father’s Elysian card end up with her anyway? Elise and I don’t get along well, but for her to scheme against me like this..." Adrienne rubbed her temple. "It seems like she and I can never get along in this lifetime. After all I’ve been through these past few days, I believe it’s time for Father and Aunt Camilla to leave this household. I really don’t have the energy to deal with this."

Her recent encounter with Alistair Han had also put Adrienne in a bad mood the day before. She wasn’t expecting Nurse Chen to choose to confess about Camilla and Elise’s involvement today of all days. Adrienne supposed it could not be helped, though was surprised that it happened sooner than she anticipated.

"Still so young but already harboring such evil thoughts about your sister?" Old Madam Jiang glanced at Elise, who was weeping silently next to her mother. "It really is a wonder how our Jiang family produced a wicked child like you!"

Adrienne remained silent. This attitude of her elders was already expected. Now that Elise’s reputation was marred with scandal, their grandparents would surely turn their backs on her. In her previous life, because of her grandmother and cousins’ schemes, her grandparents had neglected Adrienne and left her to her own devices. Now, it was Elise’s turn to lose their support. As long as the elderly couple disapproves of her, she wouldn’t be able to make a decent debut in their social circle.

As for Elise’s viciousness... Adrienne laughed inwardly. Didn’t her grandmother know it runs in their family? How could she pretend to be righteous when she had even bullied Adrienne’s mother?

"Since Addie has already decided, you’d better leave this house as soon as possible." Old Master Jiang told his eldest son disappointedly. "Don’t bring your wife to any events for now. Who knows who else she might offend."

Camilla’s face turned ashen. By being confined at home like this, she would never get the chance to salvage her image in public. The longer she prolonged her absence, the worse her reputation would be. Old Master Jiang knew this, yet he wasn’t giving her any leeway to recover from the scandals.

Lewis was visibly seething in anger, but he couldn’t possibly disobey his father now. He shot Adrienne a fierce glare, making Adrienne scoff inwardly. Why was he angry with her when he was involved in their scheme? If anything, she should be the one who was holding a grudge against him.

"Can you all just leave?" Adrienne threw her hands in the air before running it over her face. This wasn’t the morning she expected to have after the banquet. She was hoping to sleep in a little longer and not deal with the aftermath of the banquet.

The storm of rumors swirling around the Jiang family had spread all through the capital and had even reached Jinxu Garden, where Lennox Qin currently resided. When he saw the pictures of his young bride in a red dress, a flash of pride appeared in his eyes.

"Addie can surely outshine everyone with her presence," he chuckled as he swiped on his tablet to read the rest of the news.

"I hear her step-siblings and stepmother are in deep trouble because the nurse they bribed had confessed her crime and revealed their schemes," Gavin commented. It seemed that Lennox was still in a good mood despite the rumors circulating about him and his cousin.

"They must have underestimated Addie. There’s no way she would stop until she’s certain they are utterly destroyed," Lennox exited the news article and glanced at his friend. "You didn’t come here to talk about this, right?"

Gavin sighed and handed an envelope to him. "I don’t know what made Jacob Qin think you’ll attend their nuptials."

Lennox only looked at the content before flicking it into the trash bin. His cousin must be stupid if he thought he would wallow in self-pity just because Audrey chose to marry him.

"He must have been curious how I would react knowing he’s marrying my ex-fiancée. What a waste of energy. He should have exerted more effort to convince the board that he could run the company."

"It doesn’t seem to be in his list of priorities. Anyway, did Miss Jiang mention when she’ll set off to find the next child? The child support for your siblings has stopped, and I’m sure their guardians will start complaining one of these days."

"Don’t worry about it. I’m sure Addie has a plan. I don’t expect her to retrieve all of them anytime soon, considering she’s also dealing with family matters."

"I really can’t predict her sometimes. Do you know she recently employed a loan shark as a bodyguard? I thought hiring Hunter Nian alone was already suspicious."

"A loan shark?" Lennox rubbed his chin as he thought about it. "It is unlikely for her to hire a loan shark without a reason."

"That’s what I thought too. We shouldn’t meddle too much in her affairs, but if she’s to become your wife..."

"Just don’t cross the line, Gav. I can’t explain it if she finds out you’re snooping around her business." Lennox warned him.

According to Adrienne’s temperament, she would surely not be pleased if she found out Gavin was keeping tabs on her. She was the kind of person who would rather kill the dog than rear it. Especially a disloyal and backbiting one. Lennox would rather not offend her at all.

"Alright, I understand. It would probably be better for us to use our resources for something else." Gavin didn’t need to be reminded of how dangerous Adrienne could be if she decided to become their enemy. Lennox would be greatly disadvantaged if Adrienne chose to betray him now.
