Chapter 76: The Birthday Banquet (2)

It didn’t take long before Alfred Jiang and Waylen Jiang’s family followed. Ayla and Sierra immediately joined their friends.

Some who were expecting to see Adrienne Jiang were disappointed when she didn’t show up. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"Where’s your cousin, Ayla? Is Adrienne not invited to your grandfather’s banquet?" One of her friends asked maliciously.

"Don’t say that, I’m sure Addie will show up. She must have experienced some mishaps before coming here."

Ayla’s friend sighed. "Why do you always have an excuse for her, Ayla? She’s the only one from the Jiang family who isn’t here."

"Oh my goodness, since when did the Jiang family have a beautiful granddaughter like her?" Someone gasped from the crowd.

Everyone turned their heads to the entrance of the banquet hall, seeing Adrienne Jiang dressed in a tight fitting red dress with an illusion neckline. As she walked forward with her equally dashing companion, her smooth white leg and her foot encased in high heels, those who saw her were left stunned. They were unable to tear their gaze from her.

As she continued striding forward, everyone could not help but hold their breath upon seeing her appearance closely. She was naturally fair, so the deep red dress suited her very well. It was like watching a spirit of nature coming down to the mortal realm to join them in this festive event.

"I-it’s Adrienne Jiang!"

Camilla’s face turned pale when she saw how everyone’s attention ended up on Adrienne. Her radiance dazzled the guests and made them forget about Ayla and Elise, who were now both looking at Adrienne with contempt.

The ladies had already started chatting quite animatedly to one another.

"What uncouth and vixen girl? Adrienne Jiang has the bearing of a true miss of an affluent family! Those rumors are truly nonsense."

Someone snickered. "With that kind of beauty and bearing, it’s no wonder someone wanted to slander Miss Jiang. If I hadn’t seen her today, I might have fallen for those lies."

For the first time in a long while, Ayla Jiang wasn’t the center of everyone’s attention. For many years, she held pride knowing that she was the most outstanding granddaughter of the Jiang family. However, with Adrienne’s appearance tonight, she had dethroned her as the most beautiful lady of the night.

Adrienne continued walking, with no discernable change on her expression as she made her way towards her grandfather. Her calm and collected air caused the young men to check her out, considering her as a potential partner in the future.

Sierra Jiang, who promised Camilla to ruin Adrienne’s dress, was thoroughly mad and was glaring fiercely at her cousin. The little bitch had come prepared and managed to avoide her scheme.

Elise was burning with rage inside, but couldn’t quite express it because of her gentle facade. She felt that Adrienne had deliberately worn this red dress to steal the limelight from her.

Camilla forced a slight smile on her face as Adrienne and Hunter approached their table. Not only did Adrienne manage to turn the tables to her advantage, but she had also brought this man with her. She didn’t think Adrienne knew the secret Hunter was withholding from her.

"Grandpa, happy birthday. I wish you more prosperous years to come." Adrienne greeted her grandfather.

Old Master Jiang gave her a head-to-toe look, before giving her an approving nod.

"You look good, Addie, but how come you’ve only just arrived now?"

Adrienne looked aggrieved and sighed.

"I don’t know what happened, Grandpa. The moment Mother Wang took the dress Aunt Camilla and I had bought from Spotlight, it was ruined beyond repair. There are cuts on its hem and skirt. So that’s why, I asked someone from Spotlight to deliver me a new one. Don’t you think this red dress is quite befitting for the event, Grandpa? Even if I come late, I’ll surely not forget your special day."

The old man was pleased with Adrienne’s answer, but his expression changed when he looked at Camilla.

"You’ve been running the household for two years now and yet something like this happened to Addie? No wonder she would rather live alone than be with the rest of you. To think that someone bears ill intent towards her and was daring enough to ruin her dress before the banquet reflects badly on you." He chastised Camilla.

"It’s my fault, Father. I should’ve paid more attention to Addie."

"Calm down, Grandpa. It’s just a dress. Aunt Camilla was also busy preparing for this banquet, so how could she possibly know that someone would dare to trespass my room and ruin my original dress? The important thing is that I’m safe and here now. We can’t possibly let others think there’s a rift in our family, right?" Adrienne tried to placate her grandfather.

"Addie is right, old man. Focus on what we have tonight." Her grandmother added while giving Camilla a disapproving look.

"But who is this handsome young man next to you, Addie? Why does he look familiar?" Old Master Jiang asked.

The sudden change of color on Camilla’s face was almost too laughable for Adrienne, but she chose to ignore her for the meantime.

"Grandpa, this is my new bodyguard, Hunter Nian. My Uncle Reese arranged for him to look after me."

"I’m glad to hear that you are mending your relationship with the Zhao family. Did your Grandpa Zhao finally give you an answer?"

Adrienne shook her head.

"I’m sorry, Grandpa. He said that until the Jiang family showed sincerity, it’s better not to expect anything from them. But I know that in due time, everything will work out well in the end."

"Look at you, you know how to fool this old man now." Old Master Jiang sighed, but his eyes were gentle on her. "Anyway, don’t just stay here, go and greet your friends."

"Thanks, Grandpa. Call me if there’s anything..."

Adrienne then left with Hunter and decided to find Myrtle in the crowd. Her best friend had messaged her earlier, informing her that she’d already arrived there an hour earlier.
