Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 75: The Birthday Banquet (1)
The birthday banquet was to be held at the Jiang Estate, thus everyone was busy preparing for it. Rosemary’s garden was opened for the guests to view while the large banquet hall at the main house was filled with decorations, tables, and chairs for their guests.
The courtyard house where Lewis Jiang’s brothers and their families were staying was busy as well. However, none of the Jiang family servants came to check on Adrienne’s needs.
From the moment the sun rose until the sun set, Adrienne remained in her room, watching the news about Lennox Qin. Beside her stood Hunter, who had a scowl on his face. He had just found out the identity of the man Adrienne had been seeing in the opposite hospital room.
However, he didn’t dare question how she came to associate herself with such a man. The news had painted Lennox Qin in a horrible light. They even went as far as claiming that he now had a disfigured face. Obviously, those who had seen his face could tell it was an outright lie.
The news then mentioned the upcoming nuptials between Jacob Qin and Audrey Xiao. While Lennox Qin was recuperating from his severe injuries, his supposed bride was marrying his cousin instead.
"Aren’t you going to prepare for tonight’s banquet?" Hunter asked when he noticed that Adrienne had yet to make any move, considering it was already five in the afternoon.
"There is no need to rush, Hunter. We’ll never be too late."
Adrienne took her own sweet time and even sat for an early dinner with Hunter before going for a long bath. Hunter, who was following her pace, returned to his quarters to prepare for the night as well.
Adrienne hadn’t dressed up for the event yet. She was seated in front of the vanity table, allowing Mother Wang to buzz around the room, intending to help her prepare.
"Miss! The dress you asked me to hang in the closet has a big cut on its bosom! Someone really did try to sabotage your clothes!" She heard Mother Wang exclaim from her walk-in closet.
Mother Wang then stepped out and showed Adrienne the ruined dress.
"You don’t need to worry about it. Go and take the red dress from Hunter, Mother Wang. I’ll make them regret wasting such a fine dress."
Her Aunt Camilla was too easy to predict. By making sure she wasn’t present, everyone’s attention would be on her and Elise during the banquet.
Mother Wang didn’t waste any time and rushed to the next room, taking her miss’s dress, but not without helping Hunter with his clothes first. After all, he would be Adrienne’s escort for the night.
Adrienne dressed up and allowed Mother Wang to apply light makeup on her face, finishing with faint red gloss on her lips. Since she had chopped off her long hair, there wasn’t much work needed on her hair. A pair of dangling earrings hung on her ears, giving her an expensive look.
Mother Wang looked pleased with Adrienne’s appearance. Her miss was a sight to behold. Her eyes glistened with tears as she remembered how tiny Adrienne was when Madam Rose gave birth to her.
However as she paid attention to Adrienne’s icy expression, Mother Wang sighed inwardly. Surely, a lot of things have changed since Rosemary’s accident.
"Aren’t you going to rush off with Mr. Nian? The banquet might’ve started already." She asked Adrienne, who remained seated.
"The fact that they didn’t send someone to check on me means they have already proceeded without me. I’ll just give them a moment to shine, but I wonder how long they’ll be able to keep it up."
There were a number of affluent families who arrived at Old Master Jiang’s banquet. Despite not being involved with the Jiang Corporation for a long time, he was still associated with many people within the business circle.
The guests were divided into several groups. On one side, many young males were seen accompanying their fathers as they greeted one another. As these youths would one day take over their father’s place, establishing a network of connections was essential to them.
On the other side, the female guests were busy gossiping among themselves, while the young ladies could be found in small groups of friends. Those who were familiar with each other were seated together.
One lady said, "It’s been a long time since the Jiang family hosted an event. I’ve been hearing things about Young Miss Jiang. Do you think she’ll make an appearance today?"
"Huh? Do you mean Adrienne Jiang? I did hear something like that, but it sounds ridiculous." Another lady said. "It was as if someone was trying to tarnish her reputation with those baseless rumors."
However, another lady who was close to Camilla Yan smiled and said, "How can that be? Camilla frequently shares her worries for her stepdaughter with me. She said that it’s really hard to get along with Adrienne no matter how hard she tries. I guess the girl is still in a rebellious phase. It’s a pity that she has no one to teach her proper manners and etiquette at such a young age."
She then shook her head in disappointment.
Other women were looking at her with mixed reactions, but most of them were thinking that she’s speaking nonsense. It had only been two years since Rosemary’s accident and there was no way she didn’t educate her young daughter properly.
Meanwhile, the one who should learn manners and ethics should be Camilla instead. If she knew shame, she wouldn’t have had an affair with a married man.
Also, Camilla was the other woman, so it’s only understandable that Adrienne wouldn’t like her immediately.
"Hey, the Jiang family is arriving." Someone said, effectively stopping everyone’s conversation.
Old Master Jiang arrived with his wife and greeted their guests. They were followed by Lewis and Camilla, who wore a huge smile on her face as if this night was about her.
Behind them were Cayden and Elise. Elise was all smiles in her white party dress with a sweetheart neckline. Her skirt slightly flared from her waist until it reached her knees. She looked dignified and elegant. She was a picture of innocence and purity.
