Chapter 354: Shame on Me (2)

"There’s a lot of money involved in that project, Addie. My father, though maybe a bastard to me and to my siblings, was an excellent businessman. He poured his blood and time into the research for that project. " Lennox told his wife in a solemn voice. Though he and his father were always at odds, Lennox cannot deny that his father’s influence allowed him to become what he is now.

It never dawned on him that Alistair was also interested in the project he and his father were working on before. However, the more he thought about it, the more it made sense to him why he and his father were targeted.

Adrienne nodded, her eyes fixed on Lennox’s troubled face. As they sat there in silence, Lennox couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread wash over him. He knew that Alistair was a dangerous man, one who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. And if he was after the project, Lennox knew that he and Adrienne were in for a rough ride.

"What do you think Alistair wants with the project?" she asked, her voice soft and soothing.

Lennox shrugged, his mind racing. "I don’t know. Maybe he wants to take over the company and use the project for his own gain. Or maybe he’s just after the money."

"And the files about the project? Do you think your uncles and aunt got access to it? If I followed the timeline of my previous life, Alistair would have been busy luring "

Lennox shook his head. He and his father were very careful and never shared the details with those who weren’t part of the project.

"But that doesn’t mean they won’t try to get it," Lennox said, his eyes narrowing with concern. "We need to be careful. Alistair and my relatives are not to be underestimated."

Adrienne nodded in agreement, her expression serious. "What do you suggest we do?"

Lennox took a deep breath, his mind racing with different scenarios. "First, we need to increase security at the company. I’ll talk to the head of security and make sure they’re aware of the situation. Secondly, we need to find out what they are up to. I have a feeling they aren’t acting alone."

"You think there are others involved?"

Lennox nodded grimly. "It’s possible. We need to look into it. And finally," he said, his voice lowering to a whisper, "we need to protect ourselves. I don’t trust them, and I don’t want to take any chances."

His mind was already working on a plan to protect himself and his wife. He couldn’t afford to lose her. "We need to be careful, Addie. I don’t want anything to happen to you," he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

Adrienne watched him, admiring the way his mind worked. Lennox was always one step ahead of everyone else. She knew that with him at the helm, they had a chance to beat his relatives at their own game. She couldn’t help but worry if Lennox would still end up dying in a few years, despite her changing the course of events.

She regretted that she didn’t try to learn more about him and the Qin family in her past life. But there was no point in dwelling on it now. She had a second chance, and she wasn’t going to let it go to waste. She was worried about what was to come, but she was also grateful to have Lennox by her side.

"I trust you, Len," she said, her voice unwavering. "Whatever you think we should do, I’m with you."

Lennox smiled at her, his worries momentarily forgotten. He leaned over and kissed her, savoring the feel of her lips against his. In that moment, he felt like he could conquer anything with her by his side.

But as much as he wanted to enjoy the moment, he knew that they had work to do. He broke the kiss and stood up, his mind already racing with plans.

"I’m going to get started on increasing security not only in our home but also at Huayi," he said, his voice determined. "I should look into the possibility of others being involved."

But as he walked down the hallway, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off. He felt like they were missing a crucial piece of information, something that would help them understand why Alistair was after the project.

And then it hit him. He stopped dead in his tracks, the realization hitting him like a ton of bricks.

"The lab," he whispered to himself. "He’s after the lab."

He and his father were the only ones who knew where it was and how it was developed. It was no wonder Alistair and Lennox’s relatives wanted to get their hands on the project his father started.

Lennox quickly turned around and headed back to the living room, where Adrienne was waiting for him with a questioning look on her face.

"What is it?" she asked, noticing the look of urgency on Lennox’s face.

"It’s the lab," he said, his voice low and urgent. "Alistair and my relatives are after the lab where the project was developed."

In that moment, Lennox knew what he had to do. He had to protect the lab at all costs. The future of Qin Industries depended on it. He knew Jacob didn’t have what it takes to lead the company, and he didn’t doubt Adrienne’s words about the downfall of the Qin family in her past life. He knew that no matter how he and Adrienne tried to change the future, there were things that would remain the same.

Adrienne’s eyes widened in shock and fear. "Do they know where it is?"

"I’m not sure." Lennox admitted, "Now that I think about it, my Uncle Henry’s people have been following me for some time now. I thought it was because they still want me dead, but now I think they are trying to see if I will lead them to the lab my father built years ago."

Adrienne remained silent, trying to figure out how to help her husband.

"We should protect it then." She told Lennox, "Do you think it would be better to move it somewhere safe? In the meantime, you should avoid going to the place where you and your father frequently visited before. Perhaps you can ask Gavin for help to relocate it somewhere they’ll never think to look at."

Lennox nodded, already on board with the plan. He wasn’t certain who else was involved in the accident that claimed his father’s life. It would be better if he and Adrienne worked closely together to gather the files his father left and to relocate the lab as soon as possible.

"Where do you suggest we move it?"

Adrienne thought for a moment, then an idea struck her.

"What about the old abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city? No one ever goes there, and we can beef up security around the area. I can send Uncle Shark there to set up surveillance and make sure it’s safe."

Lennox considered the idea for a moment before nodding. "That could work. I’ll talk to Gavin and see if he can help us move the lab there. And we’ll need to make sure it’s heavily guarded and secure.

They both knew it was a risky move, but it was the only option they had. They couldn’t let Alistair and Lennox’s relatives get their hands on the project. It was too dangerous, and the consequences could be catastrophic. If things remained the same, Qin Industries would be doomed to fail.

Lennox couldn’t help but wonder if this was all worth it. What was the point of creating something so revolutionary if it would only lead to betrayal and danger? But he knew deep down that his father believed in the project, and so did he. They had to protect it.

"If you’ll allow it, Len. I can do this task for you. I can use an excuse to use the warehouse for Purple Cloud. Your relatives assumed that I wasn’t involved in any of your business ventures. We can keep Gavin from this and spare him from the trouble."

"Alright." Lennox easily agreed, grateful for Adrienne’s willingness to help. "But be careful, Addie. I don’t want anything to happen to you."

Adrienne nodded, her expression serious. "I know. I’ll be careful. But we need to act fast. Who knows how much time we have before they find out the location of the lab."

Lennox knew she was right. They had to move quickly if they were going to protect the project. He stood up, his mind already racing with plans and options.

"We’ll need to start packing up the lab. And I’ll talk to Uncle Henry’s people and see if we can throw them off our trail."

Adrienne stood up too, her expression determined. "And I’ll start making calls to get security set up at the warehouse. We’ll need to make sure it’s impenetrable."
