Chapter 320: A Nightmare for the Jiang Family (2)

It was already past midnight, but Lennox was waiting in the backseat of the car while his brother-in-law, Hunter, was seated in the front passenger seat. The car was parked on the side of the road. This road was rarely taken by motorists at night, and only those who had business up north would take this path.

They were waiting for the cue of Jet, whom Lennox sent to obstruct Cayden’s way to stop him from escaping. Everything was going according to Adrienne’s prediction. As soon as Camilla was arrested, Adrienne assumed that her stepmother and her father would send Cayden away to save him. The Jiang family had a safe house in the northern part of the country, and Adrienne knew how much Camilla liked that place.

"You know you don’t need to be here, Hunter. I don’t want you to get involved in this operation and put your career at risk." Lennox told Hunter.

Hunter frowned, his dark eyes paying attention to the cars passing on the road, making sure they hadn’t lost Cayden’s track yet.

"It’s fine. I need to be here. You don’t need to pretend that you are a good man before me, Nox. You might be able to fool Addie, but I know what kind of man you are." Hunter answered with a stern tone.

"Then you should know by now that I’m someone who would protect what is mine at all costs, even if it meant going overboard." Lennox didn’t bother to deny his brother-in-law’s allegation against him. He loved Adrienne so much that he didn’t care if the entire world saw her as a bad person, so long as he could keep her safe and happy.

"You could have any woman you want, but you chose her. Why?" Hunter asked. His sister and Lennox had been married for some time, and he had yet to get used to having Lennox as his brother-in-law.

Lennox took a deep breath, trying to control his emotions before answering. "Because she’s the only one who understands me. She’s been through the same things as me, and she accepts me for who I am. And I love her."

Hunter nodded, understanding the depth of Lennox’s feelings for Adrienne. However, he decided to keep an eye on his brother-in-law to stop him from going overboard. He knew if something bad happened to Lennox, Adrienne would be devastated by it.

"I get it. And I respect that. Just don’t do anything stupid that could ruin your career and put her in danger."

Suddenly, the sound of a car engine broke the silence of the night. Lennox and Hunter exchanged a glance, knowing that Jet had successfully obstructed Cayden’s car. Hunter quickly got out of the car and ran in Jet’s direction, with Lennox following closely behind.

When they arrived at the scene, they saw Cayden’s car parked on the side of the road and Jet standing in front of it with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Where’s Cayden?" Lennox demanded, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of the young man.

"He’s inside the car, tied up and gagged," Jet replied, a smug smile on his face. "I made sure he wouldn’t be able to make a sound or move until we got him to the safe house."

Lennox nodded, satisfied with Jet’s work.

"What now?" he asked.

Hunter was aware what they were doing was illegal, as they were abducting his half-brother. However, thinking about how Cayden was involved in drugging his mother, forcing her to stay in an unnecessary coma, changed Hunter’s mind. He would ensure that Cayden wouldn’t lose his life, unlike Ares Gu. There was no way he would allow Lennox to do it when he was around.

Lennox thought for a moment, weighing his options.

"Jet. Take him to the safe house," he finally said. "We’ll send him to the police station as soon as they find out about Cayden’s payments to Nurse Chen. Don’t try to get a word with him."

Hunter nodded at Lennox’s plan and got back into the car. As they drove away, Lennox felt a sense of satisfaction. He had done what he had to do to protect Adrienne and wouldn’t allow Cayden to avoid facing retribution. He would pay the price for harming Rosemary and Adrienne.

Lennox watched the van disappear before heading back to his own car. He was relieved that the operation went smoothly, but his mind was still occupied with thoughts of Adrienne. He knew that she was worried sick about him and the situation, and he had to find a way to reassure her that everything was going to be fine.

Lennox was willing to do whatever it took to keep Adrienne safe and happy. He knew that his actions might not always be morally correct, but he was willing to bear the consequences. He would never let anything or anyone harm the woman he loved.

He followed Hunter in the car and dropped him off at Zhao Estate before returning home. When he arrived home, Lennox was surprised to see his wife still awake and dressed in her nightgown. She was pacing back and forth and failed to notice his arrival.

"Why are you still awake, Addie? You didn’t have to wait for me." Lennox said as he placed his dark coat on the nearby armchair.

Adrienne immediately faced him, relief washing through her upon seeing him.

"I couldn’t sleep, Len. I’ve been so worried about you and Hunter," Adrienne admitted.

Lennox quickly approached her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to him.

Lennox wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. He felt her soft breath on his chest as he kissed the top of her head. He could feel his wife slightly tremble in his arms, and understood why she’d been nervous.

"We’re alright, Addie. Everything went according to plan. We found Cayden, and he’s been taken to a safe place. He won’t be able to escape facing justice anytime soon." He reassured her. "We won’t be keeping him for too long.

Adrienne breathed a sigh of relief and snuggled deeper into his embrace. She knew that Lennox was capable of handling anything that came their way, but she couldn’t help but worry about him. She also didn’t want Lennox to do something that he might regret in the end.

"You scared me," She whispered.

"I’m sorry," Lennox said, his voice low and gentle. "I’ll do my best to make sure you never have to worry like that again."

As they stood there in each other’s arms, Lennox realized that he had everything he ever wanted in life: a successful career, a loving wife, and a family who would do anything for him.

He felt content and at peace, knowing that he had finally found his place in the world. Lennox used to think that he didn’t have any purpose in life and was content with going with the flow. But meeting his wife and meeting his siblings changed everything for him. They gave him a sense of purpose and a reason to strive for more. Now, he couldn’t imagine his life without them and was determined to make the most of every opportunity that came his way.
