Chapter 314: A Little Payback (1)

The wedding reception wasn’t done yet when Alistair received a call, forcing him to leave the venue in a hurry. Ayla was startled when he suddenly stood up and left the vicinity without giving a word. Even his father and Old Madam Han were confused about his sudden departure.

As Alistair rushed out of the venue, his mind raced with worry. He had just received news that the authorities had raided a subsidiary of the Han Corporation. Ayla couldn’t help but wonder what could have happened as she watched him disappear into the night.

Alistair immediately entered the black sedan car waiting for him outside and rushed to the address of the subsidiary company they owned. The company was being used for money laundering, and now the CEO of that company was being charged with several cases.

Han Corporation had already made a legal statement for damage control. They claimed they had nothing to do with the CEO’s activities and promised to cooperate with the authorities in any way possible.

Alistair was really pissed off that night. Not only was he forced by his family to marry Ayla Jiang, but he also had to deal with his subordinates’ incompe

tence. He would rather finish them if he could to ensure they wouldn’t mess this up further.

"If he says one word and sells me out to the authorities, I’ll give him a lesson he’ll never forget," Alistair shouted on his phone to someone before ending the call.

He was livid. Everything was falling apart for him. As Alistair drove to the subsidiary company, he couldn’t help but think about how this could all affect the Han Corporation. Lennox Qin already had a vendetta against them, which could be the perfect opportunity for them to strike. Alistair knew he had to act fast to ensure the safety and reputation of the Han Corporation.

When he arrived at the subsidiary company, he immediately noticed that the police were still there. He took a deep breath and stepped out of the car, ready to face the consequences of his subordinate’s actions.

As he arrived at the subsidiary company, Alistair’s anger only grew. The building was in shambles, and the authorities were still investigating the scene. Alistair pushed his way through the crowd of reporters and bystanders, his expensive suit attracting stares.

As he entered the destroyed building, Alistair’s eyes scanned the surroundings, taking in the damage caused by the raid. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of betrayal towards the CEO, who had been caught in the act. He trusted him with the company, and this is how he repaid him? By getting seen and causing damage to the Han Corporation’s reputation?

Alistair clenched his fists, his mind filled with thoughts of revenge. He knew he needed to act quickly to salvage and regain control. He couldn’t let the authorities get a hold of any more information that could incriminate the Han Corporation.

Meanwhile, Adrienne enjoyed the night with her husband. She and Lennox hadn’t had dinner outside for a long time. They laughed and chatted, reminiscing about the early days of their relationship. Adrienne couldn’t help but feel grateful for Lennox, who had been with her through thick and thin. He always made her feel like the center of his world, and she loved him for it.

Lennox suggested they walk in the nearby park as they finished their meal. Adrienne smiled, feeling giddy like a teenager. They walked hand in hand, enjoying the silence the place offered, even if it was only temporary.

"The Han family spent a fortune on Alistair and Ayla’s wedding. Too bad Alistair wouldn’t like the gift I sent to him. He and Ayla won’t be able to consummate their wedding night and enjoy their honeymoon soon. It’s a little payback for the inconvenience Ayla Jiang has caused you. Alistair would hate her more if he knew about this." Lennox informed his wife.

Adrienne chuckled and pulled Lennox so they could sit on the bench. The park was closed for them to use, and their private bodyguards kept the others away. It was only for an hour, but it was enough for Adrienne.

"Did Gavin execute the next plans?" Adrienne asked. She told Lennox all the details she could remember about the illegal activities of Alistair and the Han Corporation in her past life.

"Yes, but we still have yet to find irrefutable evidence to use against Elysian to shut it down for good," Lennox answered. He knew that place had caused his wife trauma, and he wanted Elysian to be shut down and save women from being drawn to that nasty place.

"It’s not your problem to find the evidence, Len. It’s the police’s job to do it. You only need to make them aware of the problem."

"I think that’s a good idea, Addie, but I’m pretty sure it would be hard to pin down Prosecutor Ji with it." Lennox agreed with his wife.

"Uncle Reese has already deployed a team to investigate the matter. I don’t know how it is going, but it may take some time. What about you, Len? Did the Qin family reach out to you?"

Adrienne wondered how the Qin family reacted when the news of Lennox’s return and their marriage were publicly known.

Lennox’s expression suddenly hardened. Adrienne felt a bit bad for ruining their night with her question.

"You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to."

"No, Addie. It’s alright. I meant to tell you the day before, but we were happy with the children and didn’t want to ruin the mood. My first uncle sent a message inviting us for dinner, but I haven’t responded yet."

"Are you afraid of what they could do to me, Len?"

"How can I not be worried, Addie." Lennox ran his fingers on his hair and sighed. "You are everything to me, Addie. I don’t know what I will do if I lose you. I’ve already lost my father because of them. I don’t want to lose you too." He admitted with worried eyes. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Adrienne’s heart swelled with love for her husband. She reached for his hand and squeezed it tightly.

"I’m not going anywhere, Len. I promise you that." She said, looking into his eyes. "I know it’s scary, but we’ll face it together. We’ll be a team, just like we always have been."

Lennox smiled, relieved at her words. He leaned in and kissed her softly, grateful for her love and support.

"I love you, Addie. You know that, right? I won’t get tired of telling you that every day." He said, pulling back.

"As I you, Len," Adrienne replied, smiling. "Now, let’s enjoy our night. We have this park to ourselves; let’s make the most of it."

Lennox grinned, feeling happy and content. They sat on the bench and discussed their plans for the future, enjoying each other’s company in the peaceful surroundings.

Once one hour was over, Lennox led his wife outside and returned home. When they arrived, his siblings were asleep, but he still felt restless. Lennox wanted to ensure Adrienne would be safe, regardless of whether it was against Alistair or his Qin family.

"Can’t sleep?" Adrienne had just returned from the bathroom and found him in a daze, the book in his hand forgotten. It was rare for her to see her husband like this.

She joined him on the bed and rested her head against his shoulder. Lennox brought down his book and wrapped an arm around her.

"I’m fine, Addie. Just thinking."

"We’ll deal with the problem when they come. You must prioritize your health, Len. You have been working a lot of overtime at work; the kids rarely see you and are worried about you."

Lennox pulled away and sighed. He had no idea that his siblings were worrying about him, too.

"Sorry. I never thought they’d been worried. Gavin and I have a lot of things to do these days. I’ll ask Jasper to reschedule some of my meetings."

Adrienne smiled. If he was the same irritable and selfish Lennox she’d met years ago, he wouldn’t have paid attention to his siblings. But he changed since meeting his siblings from his father. Lennox had become mature and been a father figure to his siblings, something Richard Qin could never give to any of his children.

"I’m sure they understand, Len. Don’t miss important events in their lives, especially Scarlett’s upcoming recital. Is Vincent coming home soon? I heard from Hunter that the troop Vincent was assigned was recently given a new mission." Adrienne asked, changing the subject.

"Vincent is supposed to return in a few weeks, but I have not heard from him. Hopefully, he’ll be able to make it to Scarlett’s recital. She’s been practicing for months," Lennox replied, a proud smile on his face as he thought about his sister’s musical talents.

Adrienne nodded, understanding the importance of family. She knew that Lennox had always prioritized his family over everything else, even when he was busy working at Huayi. It was one of the things she loved about him. He knew his priorities and always made sure to make time for them.

"Let’s get some sleep, Len. We have a busy day tomorrow," she said, snuggling closer to him. She just wanted to be by his side and forget their problems, even for a moment.

Lennox wrapped his arms around her, and they both drifted off to sleep, their minds at ease. But they both knew that the danger still loomed over them, and they would have to face it sooner or later.
