Chapter 315: A Little Payback (2)

Camilla was on her way home from meeting the wedding coordinator for her daughter’s wedding. She and Prosecutor Ji’s wife had visited several wedding boutiques to find the perfect dress for Elise, but none of them managed to meet their expectations. They looked plain and boring, in Camilla’s opinion, and she wanted the best dress for her daughter.

Frustrated, Camilla decided to take matters into her own hands and design a custom-made dress for her daughter. She knew it would be a challenging task, but she was determined to make Elise’s wedding day truly unforgettable. Elise was her only daughter, and Camilla was determined to prove that Elise wouldn’t fall behind Adrienne and her other female cousins when it came to marriage.

The Han family spent over $30 million on Alistair and Ayla’s wedding, and Camilla didn’t want her daughter to be overshadowed or feel any less special on her big day. She wanted Elise to have a dress that would not only reflect her unique personality but also make her feel like the most beautiful bride in the world.

Camilla considered sketching different designs, consulting with renowned fashion designers, and sourcing the finest fabrics to bring her vision to life. She had always regretted not having the chance to wear the dress of her dreams and she wouldn’t allow Elise to suffer the same thing. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Thankfully, her husband supported her decision and allowed her to set aside an extra amount of money to spend on Elise’s wedding. Lewis was also looking forward to this marriage, as Elise joining the Ji family would cement the connection between the families.

However, when Camilla arrived home that afternoon, police were there to greet her. She was startled and had a bad feeling about this. She was about to ask their senior housekeeper what was happening when one of the detectives accompanying the police stepped forward and introduced himself. He showed his ID and badge to Camilla and explained the situation to her.

"Madam Jiang, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Rosemary Zhao."

Camilla’s heart dropped as the words registered in her mind. Attempted murder? Rosemary Zhao? She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Her mind raced before she remembered Cayden’s warning from weeks ago. Her son warned her that Hunter and Adrienne might come after her.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about," Camilla responded in a shaky voice. She feigned innocence, but she was more than aware why they were coming after her.

The police officer gave her a stern look. "Nurse Chen made a plea bargain and confessed that you were the one who sought her out to give Miss Zhao unprescribed drugs by her doctors. You had a motive to harm Miss Zhao. You need to come with us for questioning."

Elise came down the stairs just in time to hear the officer’s statement towards her mother. Her complexion turned pale as she watched her mother resist being handcuffed and cooperate with the police.

"I’m sorry, officer, but I think there’s been a mistake," she said, trying to remain calm though there was a turbulent of emotions brewing in her chest. Camilla couldn’t hide the fear and nervousness in her voice as she spoke to them. She was the madam of a reputable family. How could she allow them to ruin her image like this?

"I’m afraid not, Madam Jiang. We have evidence that links you to the crime," the officer replied sternly.

Camilla was quickly handcuffed and escorted to a waiting police car. She lowered her head as she noticed there was a crowd, curious as to why the police came to the Jiang residence.

She was motified and ashamed to be seen being dragged out of her home by the authorities.

"Mom!" Elise started to panic. "Let go of my mother! You can’t just take her away! Don’t you know who I am? I’m Prosecutor Ji’s daughter-in-law! You think you can mess with our family?"

The police gave her a cold, unyielding stare. "I understand your concern, but we have a job to do," the officer replied firmly. "If you have any information that can help clear your mother’s name, please cooperate with us."

Elise’s anger turned into worry as she realized the seriousness of the situation. She took a deep breath and nodded, determined to keep her mother from being detained. Her father wasn’t home, but Elise was certain that he would never forsake her mother and help her this time.

Elise’s mind was in a whirlwind of emotions, but she knew that she had to stay calm if she wanted to help her mother. She picked up her phone and dialed Prosecutor Ji’s number, hoping that he would be able to help her.

Despite the humiliation and fear, Camilla knew she had to remain composed and collected for the sake of her family, especially her daughter. As she was escorted to the police car, she glanced at Elise who was standing on the front porch with tears in her eyes. Camilla lifted her chin and gave her daughter a reassuring nod.

It wasn’t until she was sitting in the backseat of the police car that Camilla realized the gravity of the situation. She was in a daze as she sat in the backseat, trying to process what was happening. How could her life have taken such a sudden turn? The only thing she was certain of was that Hunter and Adrienne were behind it all.

’No, this couldn’t be!’ Camilla thought. She refused to allow Adrienne to ruin her life like this. There was no doubt in her mind that Adrienne had planned all of this. If not, she shouldn’t have sued her at this crucial time when Elise was about to be married to the Ji family.

Was Adrienne trying to stop the nuptials between the Jiang and the Ji family? Did she deem the Ji family a threat? Camilla couldn’t think of any reasons why Adrienne would sabotage them at this time.
