Chapter 278: You’re Nothing Without the Jiang Name (2)

"Don’t act like you’re better than me, Adrienne. You’re nothing but a traitor to this family," he spat at her, his eyes blazing with fury.

Adrienne chuckled, her amusement clear. "I am what I am, Cayden, and I do not care what you think of me."

Cayden’s jaw tightened as he realized that there was no getting through to his sister. He would never be able to make her see reason, and he would never be able to make her understand how much damage she had caused to their family.

At that moment, Cayden made a decision. If he couldn’t make Adrienne pay for her betrayal in words, then he would make her pay in other ways. There must be something he could do to make Adrienne regret getting on the bad side of the Jiang family.

He left the conference room in a bad mood, leaving Adrienne with her companions. Myrtle sighed in relief, seeing Cayden storm out of the room. She knew that Cayden’s anger was not something to be taken lightly, and she couldn’t help but worry about what he might do next.

Myrtle hoped that Adrienne would finally realize the gravity of her actions and the consequences she would face for betraying their family. But she was also aware that, with Lennox around, Adrienne wasn’t truly weak and defenseless. Lennox was deeply in love with Adrienne, ready to protect her at any cost. Myrtle knew that if Cayden tried anything rash, Lennox would be there to intervene and ensure Adrienne’s safety.

Adrienne and her team left the building. She thanked Rowan Zhang for his cooperation, which made it easy for her to establish her influence with the other shareholders of Jiang Corporation. No one would dare question the validity of her shares against her father.

"There’s no need to thank me, Addie." Rowan patted her shoulder. "I’ve heard your circumstances from Dad, and now that he has finally retired, I volunteered to be your legal counsel. I won’t let the Jiang family bully you and your mother further."

Adrienne thanked him again. Compared to his father, Rowan Zhang was more passionate but ruthless when it came to legal matters. He was known to take on high-profile cases and fight relentlessly for his clients. His reputation as a formidable lawyer preceded him, and Adrienne felt a sense of relief knowing that she had someone like Rowan in her corner.

As they drove back to Jinxiu Garden, Adrienne looked calmer as she looked out of the window. She only spent an hour at Jiang Corp., yet she felt exhausted already. Arguing with her father was always mentally draining, but she knew it was necessary to stand up for herself.

"Are you alright, Addie?" Myrtle asked, sensing her best friend’s uneasiness.

She knew that it wasn’t easy for Adrienne to fight the Jiang family head-on. Adrienne had always been the more reserved and cautious one, preferring to avoid conflict whenever possible. But this time, she couldn’t back down. The weight of her decision to challenge her father’s authority was heavy, but she knew it was a crucial step towards finding her own voice and independence.

Adrienne forced a smile. She would be lying if she said she was okay when she was not. What she did today was emotionally taxing, and she needed some time to process everything. But she appreciated Myrtle’s concern and support, knowing that she had someone by her side who truly cared about her well-being.

"I’m a little tired, Myrtle." She admitted. "I just need some time to recharge and reflect on everything that happened. It was a tough day, but I’m glad I stood up for myself. Thank you for being there for me."

Myrtle held Adrienne’s hand and gave it a squeeze. If only she could take away some of Adrienne’s emotional burden and make everything better. She wished she had the power to ease her friend’s pain and provide the comfort she needed in that moment. However, all she could do was offer her continued support and assure Adrienne that she would always be there for her, no matter what.

"I’m so happy you finally stood up for yourself, Addie. You have no idea how much it means to me to see you taking care of yourself and not letting others walk all over you. You deserve to be treated with respect, and I’m proud of you for realizing that."

Myrtle had seen how Adrienne almost fell apart when her mother got into an accident. Her best friend, who used to be happy and confident, was reduced to a shell of her former self. Myrtle had watched as Adrienne struggled to regain her sense of self-worth and confidence, and it broke her heart.

But now, seeing Adrienne stand up for herself and assert her boundaries, Myrtle felt a surge of hope and admiration for her friend. She knew that Adrienne still had a long way to go in her healing journey, but she was proud to be by her side every step of the way.

"Thank you, Myrtle." Adrienne rested her head against Myrle’s shoulder. "Thank you for staying with me."

Myrtle’s eyes shone with tears, but she blinked them away. The best friends she knew had changed, but she was pleased to know that there were still things that remained the same. Though Adrienne might look cold and distant on the outside, Myrtle knew that deep down, her friend’s warmth and kindness were still there.

Adrienne was also loyal to her loved ones and was willing to step forward to protect them. She had proven this countless times, and Myrtle admired her for it. Myrtle knew that no matter what challenges they faced, Adrienne would always be there for her, just as she was in that moment.

"There’s no way I would leave you, Addie. You’re like family to me, and I’ll always be here to support you," Myrtle replied, wrapping her arms around Adrienne in a comforting embrace.

Adrienne remained silent. She knew Myrtle meant her words, but remembering how she lost Myrtle in her previous life was like a shadow looming over her. She couldn’t shake off the fear that history might repeat itself, leaving her alone once again. Despite her apprehension, Adrienne found solace in Myrtle’s presence and hoped that this time would be different.
