Chapter 277: You’re Nothing Without the Jiang Name (1)

Cayden watched as his father stormed from the conference room back to his office. Before Adrienne could leave, he decided to confront her. Adrienne didn’t give the Jiang family any face today and humiliated their father before the shareholders of the company. He couldn’t understand where Adrienne got this confidence and arrogance to defy their family, given she was the one who cut ties with them.

"Adrienne! How could you do that to Dad?" Cayden’s voice trembled with anger. He had always known Adrienne to be unhinged, but her actions today had crossed a line. Also, he hadn’t forgotten yet that she was the reason why Elise lost her innocence to Ares Gu three years ago.

Adrienne arched her brow. Cayden was still as haughty and arrogant as ever, thinking he had the right to judge her choices. She had made the difficult decision to cut ties with their family for her own well-being, and she wasn’t about to apologize for it.

As for Cayden Jiang, Adrienne had long lost her respect for her brother. When she looked at him, Adrienne could always remember how Cayden made her feel miserable in her past life. Cayden didn’t betray her because his loyalty wasn’t to her to begin with. No wonder when they were going up, Cayden always gave her a cold shoulder. He must have known all along that he wasn’t Rosemary Zhao’s son.

"What about it?’" She asked in return. "You didn’t have to say anything in this meeting, Mr. Jiang."

Cayden was taken aback. He was used to seeing Adrienne trembling with anxiety and fear; however, now, the woman before him seemed like a stranger to him. Her confident demeanor was a stark contrast to the vulnerability he had grown accustomed to. Cayden couldn’t help but feel initimidated towards his younger sister.

"If you have nothing to say, then why did you even come to this meeting? You couldn’t even get a position within the company and relied on your father’s help to work under Prosecutor Ji’s supervision. Adrienne questioned him, "Do you think that being beside Father would give you a chance to establish yourself with the board and the shareholders?"

Cayden glared at her. Having Adrienne utter such words before him was insulting. He had always felt overshadowed by her success, and now her boldness only reinforced his feelings of inadequacy. It was as if she were intentionally trying to undermine him, making it clear that she believed he was incapable of making a meaningful contribution to the company.

"You’ve betrayed the Jiang family. Do you still think Grandfather would allow you to succeed the company?" Cayden sneered at her. There was no way their grandfather would still favor Adrienne after hearing what she’d done today.

Adrienne scoffed and tsked as if his words were nothing more than empty threats. She was truly foolish for not being able to see how weak this man was in her previous life. Cayden was also a coward, but manipulative.

"So what? Do you think he would willingly hand the position to someone like you?" She laughed behind her hand, fueling Cayden’s anger further.

He regretted not killing Adrienne when they were younger. Adrienne remained a thorn they couldn’t get rid of after her mother. Cayden thought it would have been better if Adrienne had been with Rosemary during her accident.

Rosemary might have let him into the Jiang family, but his legal records indicated Camilla Yan as his mother. This meant that the law would still consider him an illegitimate child, and Adrienne would have the right to inherit the Jiang family’s fortune and properties, including her mother’s.

Cayden couldn’t accept that what he would inherit were the crumbs Adrienne would leave later. He refused to accept that she was better than him in any aspect. He believed she wouldn’t have what she had now if it wasn’t for the Zhao family.

Adrienne could surmise what Cayden was thinking at that moment. Like their father, Cayden never acknowledged her as his sister or part of their family. It was why she never regarded him as well as her brother. In her heart, only Hunter was her brother, and no one could take it away from him.

As Adrienne turned to leave, Cayden grabbed her arm. She could feel his nails digging into her skin, but she refused to show any sign of weakness.

"Let go of me, Cayden," Adrienne said, her voice cold and unemotional.

Cayden tightened his grip, and Adrienne winced in pain. She could feel the anger radiating off him like a heat wave, and she knew that he was capable of doing something rash.

"You think you’re so much better than us, but you’re nothing without the Jiang name," Cayden spat out. "You’re just a selfish, conniving brat who only thinks of herself."

Adrienne’s eyes narrowed at the insult. She knew that Cayden had always harbored a deep resentment towards her, but she hadn’t realized how much he despised her until now.

"Let go of me, Cayden," Adrienne repeated, her tone firmer this time.

Cayden hesitated for a moment before releasing her arm. Adrienne rubbed the spot where he had grasped her, trying to soothe the pain.

Myrtle was visibly upset, wanting to say her piece to Cayden, but Adrienne stopped her. She cannot allow Myrtle to get dragged deeper into her fight with the Jiang family and lose her life again in the process.

Adrienne’s face twisted into a sneer as she watched Cayden seethe with anger. His jealousy was palpable, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction at the sight. She had always known that Cayden resented her success, but she never expected him to stoop this low.

"You’re pathetic, Cayden. You can’t stand the fact that I’m doing better than you, can you?" Adrienne’s voice was laced with venom. She took pleasure in seeing her brother squirm beneath her words, and she wasn’t about to let up now.

Cayden clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into the flesh of his palms. He had never felt so helpless in his life, and the fact that it was his younger sister who was causing him to feel this way only made it worse.
