Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 276: The War Is Far From Over (2)
The room erupted into murmurs at Chairman Qi’s statement, but Lewis Jiang was the most vocal. "I don’t need any help from your company. Jiang Corporation can handle this situation on its own."
He refused to associate himself or their company with the Qi family. No matter how hard the situation at the Jiang Corporation was, he wouldn’t hand it over to anyone, especially to someone like Adrienne and the Qi family.
"Perhaps," Chairman Qi replied calmly. "But I believe that two heads are better than one, and in this case, two companies are better than one. With our combined resources and expertise, we can create a formidable force in the market."
"Or we could change the executive head for once and for all," Adrienne suggested, rendering everyone speechless again.
"Don’t be ridiculous." Cayden scoffed.
"Someone like you has no say on this." Adrienne shot him down, earning a fierce glare from Cayden. "Mr. Jiang must be expecting you to fill my spot as the company’s successor, but you have neither the rights nor the ability to stand before me."
Lewis Jiang glared at his daughter, his anger boiling over. "You have no right to speak to your brother like that. You’re nothing but a spoiled little girl who has no idea what she’s doing."
Adrienne remained calm, but her eyes flashed with anger. "I may be young, but I have just as much right as you to be here. And unlike your bastard son, I am confident I can handle the responsibility of running this company in the future."
The other shareholders murmured their agreement, and Lewis Jiang’s face contorted with rage. He stood up, his voice shaking with fury. "This is ridiculous. I refuse to sit here and listen to this nonsense any longer."
Adrienne let out a mocking laugh. "Afraid you’ll be replaced as the CEO, Mr. Jiang?"
Her father gave him a scathing look as if he wanted to strangle her.
"Chairman Qi, how many shares do you currently own?" Adrienne ignored her father and questioned the old man.
"This old man managed to secure 21%," Chairman Qi answered.
His answer left everyone stunned, aside from Adrienne. They all had the same question in mind. How was this possible?
Adrienne nodded. "The growth of Jiang Corporation started when my mother was involved in an accident. However, now that I inherited the shares she left according to her will and everything she owns is now in shared ownership, I have 33 percent of the shares."
Bitterness flooded Lewis’ mouth, and hot fury throbbed through his veins. He clenched his hands tightly on his side. Not only did Adrienne indirectly insult him, but she also implied she had enough shares to challenge him for the position.
It was true that since Rosemary’s accident, things hadn’t been easy for the company. However, when Cedric Zhao pulled out the one-billion-dollar investment from Jiang Corporation three years ago after the incident at the Gu mansion, it weakened the company. It left a massive dent in its finances. It happened because his family failed to force his eldest daughter to marry Ares Gu.
Adrienne’s 33 percent share threatened Lewis’s position as head of the company. However, getting the majority voting block wouldn’t be easy for her.
"33 percent? Who do you think you’re fooling here?" He scoffed at his daughter.
Adrienne gave him a blank look, then glanced at her Uncle Alfred, who looked visibly pale in his seat.
"I should thank Uncle Alfred for that," She answered, "I didn’t know Uncle Alfred was such a magnanimous person."
Alfred Jiang’s complexion turned ashen. His family and the rest of the Jiang family didn’t know he was severely in debt. Alfred’s secret debt had put him in a vulnerable position, making it easier for Adrienne to gain an upper hand within the company. He had no idea it was Adrienne who bought half of his shares.
"You..." Lewis glared furiously at his younger brother but understood immediately that Adrienne had been playing with them all this time.
’What does a little girl like you know about running a company? Just because you are dating Lennox Qin doesn’t mean you have his prowess in running a business. A little girl like you lacks not only expertise but also experience. Lewis sneered at his daughter.
Upon hearing her father mention her husband’s name, Adrienne’s eyes flashed cold, like a frozen lake in winter.
"You better watch your words, Mr. Jiang, or you might make him your enemy. Do you think you can afford to offend someone like Lennox Qin?" She warned him.
"I agree with Miss Jiang on this," Chairman Qi interjected, "CEO Jiang, you must calm down and listen with a clear mind."
Lewis Jiang was livid, his face twisted in rage. He couldn’t believe that his daughter was siding with their enemy. He wanted nothing more than to lash out at her, but he knew doing so would only worsen matters.
"But I do agree with you, Mr. Jiang. I’m inexperienced. Even if I have a massive share, I admit I’m not worthy to occupy your position as the CEO of this company. However, that doesn’t mean I cannot vote for anyone else to fill up for the position."
She smiled coldly, liking the way her father squirmed in his anger. She knew her words were hitting a nerve, and she reveled in her power over him.
"You’ve been occupying your position for over two decades, Mr. Jiang. However, your performance has not been up to par in the past seven years. The company has experienced a decline in profits and missed out on several opportunities for growth. Don’t you think it’s time for fresh leadership that can steer us in the right direction and bring back success?" Adrienne continued to mock him.
Lewis glanced at Ronald Qi. Did his daughter want his enemy to devour their company from the inside?
Ronald Qi took a deep breath before speaking, his voice calm and measured. "I believe that Miss Jiang brings up a valid point. The company has been facing challenges recently, and it may be time for a change in leadership."
Waylen and Alfred exchanged worried glances, unsure of what to do. Lewis was fuming, his face red with anger.
"What do you propose then?" He finally spat out, his voice filled with contempt.
Adrienne leaned back in her chair, a smug smile on her face. "I propose that we hold an election for the position of CEO. It’s only fair for everyone to vote for the person they believe is best suited for the job."
Lewis glared at his daughter; his fists clenched tightly by his side. He knew he couldn’t refuse her proposal without looking like a tyrant, but he also knew he didn’t have the support he needed to win the election.
"Very well," he finally said through gritted teeth. "Let’s hold an election."
Adrienne smiled triumphantly, knowing that she had won this battle. She would like to see how the Jiang family will proceed after this.
Chairman Qi could see the tension in the room rising and decided to intervene. "I suggest we take a break and reconvene tomorrow to continue this discussion. We need to have a clear mind and come up with a solution that benefits the company as a whole."
The shareholders began to stand up and leave the room, but Lewis Jiang remained seated, watching his daughter with a scowl. He glared at her, his eyes filled with hatred.
"You may have won this battle, Adrienne, but the war is far from over. You may have the shares, but you have no experience. You’ll soon realize that running a company is not child’s play." He stood up, pushing his chair back with a screech. "I’ll make sure that you regret this."
Adrienne’s smile never faded as she watched her father storm out of the room, his anger palpable. She knew this was only the beginning of a long and challenging battle, but she was ready for it.
