Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 269: Lucky for You, You’re in Love With Me (1)
"Master, everything went according to your plan." Leigh appeared with Kalista the following day while Lennox was having breakfast with Adrienne at their home in Jinxiu Garden.
Adrienne smiled as if what had transpired last night had nothing to do with her. She knew her cousin, Ayla, wouldn’t stay still and do nothing when Alistair intended to marry her. To think that Ayla would seduce Alistair, putting her showbiz career at risk, was a bold move that Adrienne found amusing.
She had always known Ayla to be resourceful and cunning, but this was a new level of determination. As she sipped her tea, Adrienne couldn’t help but wonder what other surprises her cousin had up her sleeve.
"I’m sure she didn’t use any protection last night." She commented. "Make sure to keep an eye on her."
Lennox glanced at her and sighed. "Your cousin is quite a vicious woman. So scary."
Adrienne laughed before telling Leigh and Kalista to have breakfast and that they could take a break. The two women excused themselves and left, leaving the couple alone.
"Oh? You should know by now how sinister the Jiang family members are." Adrienne cupped her chin and looked at her husband.
Lennox huffed and finished his food. "Just thinking about what Ayla had done made my skin crawl with disgust. How could she do something like that?"
Adrienne smiled but remained silent. She knew to what extent Ayla could do to have Alistair. Even when Adrienne was already married to Alistair in her previous life, Ayla never gave up on him. She even allowed herself to become Alistair’s mistress.
Lennox shook his head in disbelief. "It’s truly unsettling how Ayla would go to such lengths for love. It’s clear that the Jiang family will stop at nothing to get what they want." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Adrienne nodded in agreement. This was a trait she shared with the rest of the Jiang family. Adrienne wouldn’t claim she was a better person than Ayla and would never deny or regret what she’d done or would do later. In this life, the one who would survive would be the most vicious in the Jiang family.
"It’s the same for me, Len," Adrienne told her husband with a bitter smile. "Would you hate me as well?"
Lennox stared at her momentarily and shook his head. There was no way he would hate her; even if he did, there must be a reason behind it. Lennox knew that Adrienne’s actions were driven by her survival instincts. He couldn’t blame her for doing what she needed to do to protect herself and their family.
"Addie, you know I’m always here for you, right? Why would you think I’ll hate you for doing what you think is right to protect yourself? Lennox reached out and gently touched Adrienne’s shoulder, trying to convey his support. "We may not always see eye to eye, but that doesn’t mean I could ever hate you."
He then grinned widely. "Baby, I promised to always be by your side, under you, or on top, whichever you prefer. You are more honest in bed, Addie."
Adrienne shot him a fierce glare and slapped his shoulder.
"Pervert. Mr. Qin, is that the only thing you can think of whenever you are with me?" She scowled at him.
"Of course not!" Lennox said in defense. "I just like to keep things interesting and playful between us. But in all seriousness, the depth of our relationship goes far beyond physical intimacy," he explained sincerely.
Adrienne’s scowl softened slightly as she listened to his words, realizing there was more to their bond than playful banter.
"But how did you know your cousin would seduce Alistair Han? Has Ayla Jiang been coveting that man from the start? If she likes that kind of person, there must be something wrong with her mind." Lennox commented, thinking that Ayla Jiang was quite different from the gentle and soft-spoken person she portrays in public.
"My cousin has always been like this. Ayla pretends she doesn’t wish for material things or covet for something. In fact, what she wanted was the best, and in her mind, Alistair Han could give her that. When the news of our marriage arrangement reached her, Ayla was bound to make a move."
Lennox understood what his wife was implying. It was frightening for him to think a young woman like Ayla could pull such a scheme towards Alistair Han.
"If she gets pregnant, she will have an upper hand against Alistair Han. "
He heard his wife chuckle, and he watched as she took a sip from her coffee.
"It doesn’t matter whether Alistair managed to impregnate her or not. Ayla would still use this excuse to force him to marry her. Ayla has no idea; she should be thanking you for giving her such an opportunity to drug him."
"What?" Lennox was taken aback. "Why would she do it? Isn’t she afraid of being caught lying?"
Adrienne laughed amusedly and ran a finger on her husband’s chin. Lennox was stunned in place and didn’t dare to move away from her touch.
"My darling. You really have yet to learn what a Jiang is capable of. If she wanted to be pregnant, Ayla had ways to make it happen. It would be better for her if the child she would be carrying was Alistair’s, but it would give me an advantage if it wasn’t."
Lennox stared at his wife with wide eyes. He felt a slight chill when he looked at her smiling face. It should deter him from wanting this woman. He should feel disgust and repulsion, but he found himself inexplicably drawn to her cunning and manipulation. He couldn’t help but wonder what other secrets Adrienne held and how far she would go to achieve her goals.
"If Alistair found out the child wasn’t his, he would kill her." He said after a long silence. Alistair Han wasn’t someone Ayla Jiang could afford to offend or deceive.
Adrienne’s lips curled up. She knew that Alistair’s violent tendencies were not to be taken lightly. However, Ayla wasn’t aware of it yet, and she would pay for her ignorance dearly with her life later.
"You think Alistair would kill her? That would be too easy," Adrienne said with a smirk. "No, I have other plans for my dear cousin."
Lennox raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "What kind of plans?"
Adrienne leaned in closer to Lennox, her breath hot against his ear. "Let’s just say that Ayla will suffer a fate worse than death."
Lennox didn’t know what to say. He was terrified and amazed by the lengths his wife would go to seek revenge. He couldn’t resist her cunning mind, and it was a part of her he had grown to love.
"I don’t know how you do it," he muttered, shaking his head in disbelief. "I never would have thought I’d be married to someone like you."
Adrienne chuckled and leaned closer to him. "Lucky for you, you’re in love with me."
Lennox wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him. He knew she was right. He loved her even with her flaws and her dark side. It was a part of her that he couldn’t ignore, and it was that same part of her that made him believe in her.
"I am," he whispered, kissing her softly on the lips. "I am in love with you."
Adrienne smiled against his lips and kissed him back. It was all that mattered to her at that moment.
