Chapter 270: Lucky for You, You’re in Love With Me (2)

"What’s wrong, Addie?" Lennox asked his wife, noticing Adrienne’s unusual silence. They were in their car, attending Myrtle’s graduation ceremony to show their support. Myrtle’s graduation ceremony was scheduled a week earlier than Adrienne’s, so the latter had a chance to attend.

"Just thinking about how to answer Val’s question. She’s been pestering me to tell her how we met." She looked away, but Lennox noticed the slight blush on her face.

"Just tell her you smacked my face at our first meeting." He grinned. "What a way to meet my future wife, isn’t it?"

Adrienne’s face turned crimson. Whenever she thought about their first meeting, she couldn’t help but feel ashamed of what she’d done. If Lennox had quite a temper back then, he might have punished her for her insolence.

"How could I tell Val such a thing?" She grumbled. "I still have yet to apologize to you for what I did back then."

"Is that so?" Lennox hummed and rubbed his chin. A wide smile spread on his lips.

"I never knew you were still bothered about it. If you are still bothered by it, just think that I get a chance to smack your butt at every chance I get."

"Lennox Qin!" Adrienne exclaimed. The redness on her face was now for a different reason. She couldn’t believe her husband would dare to say such a thing. Lennox was getting bold with his words these days.

"What is it, Mrs. Qin?" Lennox asked nonchalantly. "Don’t tell me you didn’t like it when I did it."

"Y-you..." She gritted her teeth, fighting the urge to smack his head. "Don’t speak such nonsense!"

Lennox moved closer to her and rubbed her head lovingly. He found it cute whenever she was flustered like this. It was different from the cold persona she showed in public.

"Now, now, my dear wife. There’s no need for you to be ashamed. I forgive you for hitting my handsome face, but don’t do it again, okay?"

Adrienne tried to push him away, but her husband continued to pester her. She could only sigh inwardly, allowing Lennox to draw her into his arms.

"I heard Myrtle will be your personal assistant from now on. Would this be alright?" Lennox asked as he rested his chin on Adrienne’s head while she leaned against him while playing a game on her smartphone.

"She’s the one who asked for it. I couldn’t think of any reason why she wouldn’t." Adrienne replied. Keeping Myrtle close to her would also make it easier for Adrienne to protect her best friend from any harm in the future.

"No wonder she declined Gavin’s invitation for her to work on Huayi." He paused as if a thought had crossed his mind. "Say, Addie. I’ve been meaning to ask you since I returned. Do you happen to know if those two are in a relationship?"

Adrienne lowered her phone and looked at him. "I have no idea. Although Myrtle and I were close, she didn’t say anything concerning Gavin. I never thought Gavin gave her such an opportunity."

Lennox hummed and looked outside the window, seeing the scenery passing swiftly before his eyes.

"I thought they were dating already. Gavin usually couldn’t wait to return here whenever he visited me overseas."

"Let them be, Len. Give them the time and privacy they need. Perhaps they are still trying to figure things out between them." Adrienne reminded her husband. Though she was curious about the relationship between her best friend and Gavin, Adrienne didn’t want to delve into details.

Dylan’s birth was set a few years from now. If Gavin was indeed his biological father, Adrienne wondered if her beloved nephew would be born in this lifetime. Whenever she thought of Dylan, her heart still hurt. If possible, Adrienne wished Dylan would lead a better life if given a chance.

Lennox noticed the sudden change in his wife’s expression and wondered what she was thinking. There were things Adrienne had yet to tell him, but he hoped she would allow herself to heal from the past.

When they arrived at Chiangshi University, Val was with Myrtle and her mother. Myrtle was wearing her black graduation gown and cap, a proud smile on her face. Adrienne smiled, thinking how many things had changed since her rebirth. She and Myrtle didn’t finish their studies in her past life, yet they were now celebrating Myrtle’s graduation together.

"Ah, Addie. You’re finally here. " Stella Han, Myrtle’s mother, kissed Adrienne’s cheeks. She was momentarily startled when she saw Lennox accompanying Adrienne, but she also gave him a polite smile.

"I can’t possibly miss this, Aunt Stella," Adrienne answered as the older woman. She wanted to be part of this important event in Myrtle’s life.

They took their seats, and the ceremony started. Adrienne tuned out the speaker’s voice and swept her gaze around the hall. She paused and smiled, seeing Gavin standing at the back of the hall, watching the ceremony intently. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"What are you looking at, Addie?" Lennox asked beside her. He then followed her gaze and chuckled when he spotted Gavin as well.

"This little fool. He said he had an important meeting today, but it was Myrtle’s graduation ceremony all along."

"Let him off, Len." Adrienne wound her arm around his and forced him to focus on the ceremony.

When the students stood up from their seats and formed a line near the stage. Adrienne spotted Myrtle conversing with her classmates with a wide smile. She had never seen her best friend as happy as she did then. Myrtle’s eyes sparkled with excitement and joy.

As Myrtle approached the stage to receive her diploma, Adrienne felt a sense of pride wash over her. She felt happy for her friend’s accomplishment and couldn’t help but think of the future ahead.

As the applause died down, Myrtle turned to face the audience. Her eyes darted around the room until they met with Gavin’s. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips, and Gavin returned the gesture.

Adrienne watched the exchange between the two with curiosity. She couldn’t help but wonder what their relationship really was. She had seen how Gavin looked at Myrtle and Myrtle’s eyes lit up whenever she spoke of him. It was clear that there was something there, but Adrienne couldn’t say for sure what it was.

As the ceremony came to a close, Adrienne caught up with Myrtle. She wrapped an arm around her friend’s shoulder and congratulated her on her achievement.

"You did it, Myrtle. I’m so proud of you," Adrienne said, beaming with pride.

Myrtle’s cheeks turned pink, and she smiled back at her friend. "I couldn’t have done it without you and Val, Addie. You have no idea how much you’ve helped me," she said, her eyes shining with gratitude.

As they made their way out of the hall, Adrienne caught sight of Gavin again. He was waiting for them outside, a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

"Congratulations, Myrtle. You did it," Gavin said, handing her the flowers. He had a slight smile on his usual stoic face as he looked at her.

Myrtle’s face lit up, and she accepted the flowers with a slight blush. Adrienne watched as Gavin spoke with Myrtle, and there was something in the way they looked at each other . She could see a connection between them that went beyond mere friendship.

It was a feeling that Adrienne was all too familiar with, having experienced it herself with Lennox. She could only hope that things would go well for Myrtle this time.
