Chapter 247: Filthy Rich Husband (1)

Adrienne received another guest in Jinxiu Garden while Lennox was away for work. It was the first time Reese Zhao had been there, and it made Adrienne a bit nervous. She knew that her uncle had yet to forgive and accept Lennox for marrying her behind their backs.

As Adrienne showed Reese around their home in Jinxiu Garden, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. She hoped that the beauty and serenity of the garden would help calm her uncle’s heart and eventually bridge the gap between him and Lennox.

As the lunch was served, Adrienne took the opportunity to ask her uncle about his unexpected visit.

"What brings you here today, Uncle?" She asked as they ate.

Reese took the napkin from the table and gently wiped his mouth before responding, "I came to see how you and Lennox were doing. I wanted to check in on both of you and make sure everything is alright."

Adrienne noticed a hint of concern in his eyes, which momentarily eased her unease. However, she couldn’t shake the lingering doubt that he came to see if something was amiss between her and her husband.

"Is he treating you well, Addie?" Reese suddenly asked. "He’s not even home now."

"He’s been working long hours, but he always makes an effort to spend quality time with me," Adrienne added, hoping to alleviate any concerns her uncle may have had. She knew that Len’s dedication to his work didn’t reflect his commitment to their relationship.

"He better be," Reese said, "I didn’t allow him to take you away only to be neglected here."

Reese was still upset about Adrienne’s sudden marriage. Although he trusted his niece, it couldn’t be said of Lennox Qin. He had always been protective of Adrienne and wanted to ensure that she was happy and well taken care of.

He couldn’t help but worry about Lennox’s true intentions and whether he truly deserved Adrienne’s love and trust. Despite his reservations, Reese knew that he had to respect Adrienne’s decision and give Lennox a chance to prove himself worthy of her.

Lennox and Adrienne had been on the news again as they were spotted having dinner in an expensive restaurant the other night. The paparazzi were relentless in their pursuit of the couple, constantly speculating about the nature of their relationship. Despite the public scrutiny, Reese couldn’t deny that Lennox seemed genuinely smitten with Adrienne, but he couldn’t shake off his lingering concerns.

After lunch, Adrienne showed Reese around Jinxiu Garden, pointing out the different flowers and exotic plants that she and Lennox had meticulously cared for. Reese was impressed by the beauty of the garden, but his mind was still preoccupied with his concerns about Lennox.

As they walked, Reese suddenly stopped and turned to Adrienne. "Addie, I have to ask you something," he said, his voice serious.

Adrienne braced herself, knowing that this was the moment she had been dreading. She took a deep breath and nodded. "What is it, Uncle?"

"Are you happy with Lennox?" Reese asked, looking straight into her eyes.

Adrienne hesitated for a moment but then nodded again. "Yes, Uncle, I am," she said, her voice soft but firm.

Reese let out a deep sigh of relief. "Good," he said, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "That’s all that matters to me. I just want you to be happy."

Adrienne smiled gratefully at her uncle, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. She knew that Reese’s approval meant a lot to her, and she was glad that he seemed to be coming around.

As they continued their walk, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for Lennox and his unwavering love for her. Despite the challenges they faced, she knew that they would always be there for each other, no matter what.

"Then, can you tell me what you think about Father’s previous actions?" Reese suddenly raised another issue they had yet to discuss.

Upon mentioning the grudge Adrienne was holding against Cedric Zhao, her expression immediately turned cold. She halted her steps and met her uncle’s gaze.

"Forgive me, Uncle. I don’t think I can forgive him yet. He was aware of my mother’s condition, yet he willingly turned a blind eye instead of helping her. Regardless of his reasons, it wouldn’t change the fact that he had forsaken my mom. I won’t tell Grandma what he did, but I hope he will reflect on his mistakes."

She paused as she wondered how long her mother would be able to live this time. Following the timeline and events in her past life, Rosemary Zhao was expected to die in five years. However, since Adrienne changed the course of events for the past three years, she wondered if it was enough to save her mother.

"I don’t expect you to forgive him, Addie, but I know he’s regretting all of it now after seeing with his own eyes your mother’s condition," Reese said with a frown on his face. "He said he wanted to see whether Cayden would man up and swallow his pride to ask for the Zhao family’s help, but that never happened."

Adrienne scoffed. Her Grandfather Zhao had waited for the wrong person. Of course, Cayden wouldn’t do anything for Rosemary Zhao because she wasn’t the woman who gave birth to him.

"Did he also tell you he did it because he didn’t want you to come rushing home? He said you would have abandoned your mission and chosen to return if you knew." She asked in return.

Reese clenched his fist on his side. Whenever he thought of how his sister and his niece suffered in the past, it was enough to ignite a burning rage within him.

"That didn’t mean he couldn’t help you and your mom in my stead," he replied. "There’s nothing more important to me than to keep you and your mother safe. He crossed the line, Addie, but I’m also to blame for this. I resented him for what he’d done to your mother, but I also foolishly turned my back to her by not getting involved."

As the sun began to set over Jinxiu Garden, Adrienne and Reese sat on the bench, enjoying the late afternoon breeze and the peacefulness of their surroundings. Reese looked at Adrienne, his eyes filled with determination.

"I promise you, Addie," he said softly, "I will do whatever it takes to protect you both and ensure that you never have to suffer again. If your father bothers you again, just give me a call."

Adrienne smiled, feeling a sense of comfort and security in her uncle’s words. This time, she wasn’t alone anymore and had someone to rely on in times of need. As they watched the vibrant colors of the sunset, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a glimmer of hope for a brighter future ahead.
