Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 246: A Hostile Takeover (2)
Lennox clenched his jaw. It was quite ruthless for Lewis Jiang to treat his daughter like this. He couldn’t imagine how hard it was for Adrienne back then.
"He forced her doctors to declare that Mom was already brain dead and there was no hope for her full recovery. I was devastated when I found out about it. I expected Cayden to side with me, but he didn’t. Instead, he attended their wedding ceremony and welcomed Camilla and Elise with open arms. He acted as if Mom’s condition didn’t have anything to do with him, and he couldn’t be bothered by it."
Adrienne lowered her gaze. It made sense to her now why Cayden acted like that in her previous life. They only shared half-blood. She knew that if Hunter were in Cayden’s shoes, there was no way he would allow his father to forsake her and their mother.
She inhaled, and her voice trembled as she continued, "Cayden welcomed them with open arms, but I couldn’t do it; I couldn’t accept any of it. It caused a lot of friction and arguments between me and my father. So many times, they said I was ungrateful for denying my father his happiness. So many times, they told me Iwas torturing my mother for keeping her on life support. But how could I accept Camilla Yan?"
She held onto his arm as if she feared she’d lose her strength. Speaking about the details of her mother’s accident and the things she experienced after it, it was excruciatingly painful for her. The thought of letting go and moving on seemed impossible, as if it would mean betraying her mother’s memory. Despite the pressure from others, she couldn’t bring herself to accept Camilla Yan as a replacement for her mother.
Tears streamed down her cheek, and Lennox raised his hand and caught it with his thumb. He didn’t say anything, allowing Adrienne to speak her mind. He knew his wife liked to deal with everything on her own, and now he understood why.
Adrienne was forced to stand up for herself because no one did it for her. She had always relied on her own strength and resilience, but this situation pushed her to a whole new level. It was a defining moment for Adrienne, as she realized that in order to keep her mother alive, she needed to take matters into her own hands.
Adrienne smiled at him shakily, and she looked so damn broken and so hurt that it was enough to ignite the rage in Lennox’s heart. He couldn’t bear to see her in such pain, and he vowed to do whatever it took to protect her. Lennox knew that Adrienne’s strength had its limits, and he was determined to be the support she needed this time around.
Seeing her like this made Lennox want to tear the Jiang family apart. Adrienne was supposed to be his contract wife, and yet, even before he knew it, she became someone he deeply cared for.
Adrienne was everything he wanted and needed. Lennox knew he wouldn’t be alive today if it weren’t for her. He wanted her to rely on him more, and ask him for help. Lennox wanted her to use every single connection he had to regain everything she lost, but he knew she wouldn’t.
No wonder Gavin told him Adrienne Jiang was dangerous. Lennox finally understood what his best friend meant. Adrienne can make him want to give her the entire world on a silver platter, without her asking for it.
"Back then, I didn’t just lose my mom. I lost everything I had." Adrienne continued, "No one from the Jiang family was willing to help me with Mom’s medical bills, so I had to use my own savings and sell whatever I could to keep my mother alive for two years. What happens next is when you’ve met me."
Lennox tried his best to suppress the rage he felt—the need to punch his father-in-law in the face for subjecting Adrienne to such unbearable hardships. He couldn’t fathom how someone could be so heartless, especially towards their own family.
"Everyone knows your father wouldn’t have come as far as he did without your mother. Rosemary Zhao was known for pulling a miracle and saving the Jiang Corporation from bankruptcy. I can’t believe this is how he would repay and treat his own wife." He commented after a long silence.
Adrienne stopped crying this time and wiped her tears dry.
"I’ll get back every single thing they took from us. I swear, I will get them back. Everything." She said decisively, with a spark of determination in her eyes.
"I would make them regret everything they have done to my family. I will not stop until they face the consequences of their actions," Adrienne added, her voice filled with unwavering determination.
Lennox knew Adrienne was capable of it alone, but he couldn’t help but hope she would rely on him too.
When he saw her email inbox filled with dozens of emails with Jiang Corporation shares as the subject line, Lennox knew Adrienne had already started her revenge a long time ago. It appeared that she had been purchasing company shares from all the shareholders that were willing to part with theirs, and she was paying quite a handsome amount. Adrienne was buying as many shares as she could and thought it might take some time; it would leave no opportunity for Lewis Jiang to retaliate.
"A hostile takeover, Madam Qin?" He smiled proudly, impressed by Adrienne’s strategic approach to seeking revenge. Lennox admired her determination and resourcefulness in acquiring the company shares, recognizing that she was leaving no stone unturned in her quest for revenge.
"I’m not doing this solely for myself, Mr. Qin." Adrienne was calm now. "I’m also doing this for us."
Lennox raised a brow. "What do you mean, Addie?"
"With the current state the Jiang Corporation is in, my father is in a tight position. Alistair would surely use this opportunity to force my father to cooperate with him and ask for my hand in marriage." His wife answered.
Lennox’s expression turned stern. "Are you sure, Addie?"
He had a feeling that this was not going to be the end of their problems with that man. Alistair had been a thorn in his side for years, and he knew that Alistair would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. He had already made it clear that he was interested in marrying Adrienne, and Lennox knew that he would use any means necessary to achieve his goal.
Adrienne nodded. It was also around this time that she foolishly married Alistair Han in her past life. The Jiang Corporation was facing a financial crisis, and only after she married the Han family was the problem resolved.
Marrying Lennox wasn’t the only precautionary plan she had in mind for avoiding marrying Alistair. However, it would depend on Ayla’s performance whether her plan would work or not. She pressed her forehead against Lennox’s chest, hiding the wicked glint in her eyes.
’Ayla. Whether you can become Alistair Han’s wife or not depends on your performance. Do not disappoint me, dear cousin.’
