Chapter 245: A Hostile Takeover (1)

It was rare for Adrienne to wake up late in the morning, as she was usually up before the day broke. However, since she married Lennox, she found herself spending more time in bed and savoring the luxury of sleeping in. Lennox’s calming presence and their shared love for lazy mornings made it difficult for Adrienne to resist the temptation of staying under the cozy covers a little longer.

She woke up with her head on Lennox’s bare chest and snuggled closer. He got one arm wrapped around her as she buried her face in the side of his neck. Her lips curled up as the memory of the previous night flashed in her mind. The way her husband touched her—Lennox was both rough and tender with her at the same time.

Since Lennox had finally returned to work at Huayi, most days he was gone by the time Adrienne woke up, but every once in a while, Adrienne woke up in his arms, like today. She loved those moments right before Lennox woke up—those moments when he would hold her close and make her feel cherished and loved.

"Do you plan to spend the entire day in bed, wife? I don’t mind accompanying you." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Adrienne’s eyes shot open as her entire body tensed. She pushed away from Lennox, but he wouldn’t let her go. Instead, he pulled her closer. Adrienne blinked twice, then turned her head to look at him. Lennox had his phone in his hand, while the other was resting on her waist. He was scrolling through his emails and jam-packed schedules sent to him by Harold.

"Are you free tonight, Addie? Let’s go on a date." He suddenly said, piquing Adrienne’s curiosity.

"A date?" She chuckled. "You don’t mind being seen with me in public?"

"You are my wife. Why would I be ashamed of being seen with you? Anyway, we’ve been together for a long time, and I haven’t really asked you to go out with me." Lennox said in defense. To be honest, he wanted everyone to know that they were already married and that she was his wife. It would effectively deter other men from pursuing her.

Lennox’s protective gesture made Adrienne smile. "Alright then, let’s go on a date tonight. It’ll be nice to have some quality time together outside of our usual routine."

She then sat up and rushed to the bathroom. Lennox’s lips curled up when he saw the marks left on her smooth skin from their late-night activities.

When Adrienne emerged from the bathroom, she was already dressed in comfortable house clothes, and her hair was a bit wet from the quick shower she had taken. Lennox couldn’t help but admire how effortlessly beautiful she looked, even in such casual attire. He knew that no matter what they did or where they went, he would always be captivated by her presence.

Lennox raised a slender brow when she saw him only covered by a robe, her phone in his hands.

"Since when did you start acquiring the Jiang Corporation’s shares?" Lennox handed her her phone. "Sorry, Addie. It was just that your phone kept ringing earlier; I answered it for you. It’s Uncle Shark."

Adrienne then scrolled at her email, seeing a new message from Uncle Shark informing her of her meeting with one of the shareholders that afternoon.

"Just recently." She answered, "I inherited a small share of Jiang Corporation from my mother, but I want everything that my mother’s. I don’t care about the stuff my father owns, but I want every single thing my mother has worked hard for. I don’t want Camilla and her children getting their hands on any of it."

"And what about Cayden? Though he’s not your biological brother, you grew up together, right?"

Adrienne scoffed, her eyes flashing with murderous intent. She’d been foolish not to see that Cayden had a hand in her and her mother’s misfortune.

"Who cares about that bastard? I’ll take whatever I want from him. The things he had, the privileges he enjoyed after snatching Hunter’s place, I’ll take it back. I also don’t see why he should have anything Mom left him."

Lennox nodded, seeing the flash of determination in her eyes. He knew that nothing could stop Adrienne now, and he was willing to support her if ever she needed his help.

"Have you known all this time who harmed your mother?" He asked as he took her hand into his.

Adrienne’s expression immediately turned cold. It was so cold, Lennox could feel a chill run down his spine. She clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging into her palms.

"I have my suspicions," she replied through gritted teeth. "And once I gather enough evidence, they will pay for what they did to her."

Lennox could see the fire in her eyes, and he knew that Adrienne’s quest for revenge was far from over.

"Could you tell me what happened to Mom?" Lennox asked. He and Adrienne had been together for years now, but Rosemary Zhao’s accident was a topic Adrienne rarely spoke about. It was clear that it still haunted her, and Lennox wanted to understand why. He hoped that by knowing the truth, he could provide some comfort and support to Adrienne in her pursuit of vengeance.

Adrienne sighed, her expression heartbreaking to see for Lennox.

"I was sixteen when Mom got involved in a car accident. It was my birthday, to be exact. Because I knew Father and Cayden wouldn’t be home to celebrate with me, I rushed Mom to return home from work. I partly blamed myself because of it. If I had known..."

Her eyes shone with unshed tears, and her voice quivered with emotion. Lennox could feel the weight of her pain and regret, understanding the burden she carried. He knew that revealing the truth about her mother’s accident would not only provide closure but also give Adrienne a chance to forgive herself and find solace in knowing it wasn’t her fault.

"I shouldn’t have thrown a temper on her, but I was young and foolish back then. I only cared about myself and didn’t even give Mom a moment to rest."

Lennox held her close and rubbed her back. He was glad that Adrienne was finally opening up to him, even a little.

"Mom got into that car accident, and she fell into a coma. In the first month, I was hopeful she would recover. I didn’t notice that Father and Cayden were slipping away and gradually shedding their concern for Mom’s condition. As the days turned into weeks, their visits to the hospital became less frequent, and they seemed more distant each time. It was heartbreaking to witness their emotional detachment during such a difficult time."

Adrienne remembered all of it. She might have changed the course of events since her rebirth, but things remained the same, and those torturous two years of living with Camilla and her children were one of them.

"I was completely wrecked and felt abandoned. I didn’t know who to turn to for help. I couldn’t ask the Zhao family for help because I knew my grandfather disowned Mom when she married my father. And then one day, Father told me he was going to marry Camilla Yan, and I should give up on my mother."
