Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 244: This Is Lennox, My Husband (2)
As Valerie hung up the phone, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of dissatisfaction. Her friendship with Adrienne was important to her, and the fact that Adrienne had moved without telling her was enough to make her feel a bit hurt.
But then there was the mysterious man that she heard in the background. Who was he, and why was Adrienne keeping him a secret from her? Valerie wondered.
Valerie decided to push her feelings aside and focus on the task at hand. She needed to find out what was going on with Adrienne and why she was acting so strange lately. When Myrtle arrived to pick her up, Valerie plastered a smile and tried to act as though everything was normal.
When they arrived at Adrienne’s new home, Valerie was surprised to see how luxurious it was. Jinxiu Garden was one of the most popular landmarks in Changshi City, and not many could afford a house in this neighborhood. The estate only housed fifty households, each costing a fortune, which only the rich and powerful could afford.
Valerie couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease as she wondered how Adrienne had managed to acquire such an extravagant property. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was something more to her friend’s recent behavior and newfound wealth. Not even her Xia family could secure a house in Jinxiu Garden.
The estate Adrienne lived on was vast and sprawling, with perfectly manicured gardens and a grand entrance. Myrtle led Valerie to the front door, where Adrienne awaited them.
"Valerie! I’m so glad you could make it," Adrienne said with a smile.
"Is there a reason why I wouldn’t be here?" Valerie couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt for having doubted her friend’s loyalty.
Adrienne seemed genuinely happy to see her. She hugged Adrienne slightly and admired the house her friend lived in. The interior of the house was just as impressive as the exterior. Valerie marveled at the high ceilings, intricate chandeliers, and tasteful decorations that adorned the living room.
As they sat in the living room, Valerie took a moment to observe Adrienne. Her friend was sitting alone on the sofa, wearing comfortable home clothes, her face free from any makeup, but Adrienne was just as beautiful as ever.
"Addie, what’s going on? Did you find a golden thigh to embrace and make you his mistress? You aren’t being kept here against your will, are you?" Fearing that the servants would overhear her, Valerie asked in a low whisper.
Myrtle, who was drinking her juice, nearly choked on it when she heard Valerie’s question. She quickly composed herself and tried to stifle her laughter, not wanting to interrupt the serious conversation. She gave Adrienne an amused smile.
"Val, you know I’m in a long-term relationship, right?" Adrienne asked instead.
Valerie nodded but furrowed her brows. "Yes, but don’t tell me you are in a relationship with a rich old man. Is this why you couldn’t introduce him to me?"
Myrtle couldn’t contain her laughter anymore and burst out laughing, causing Adrienne to laugh as well.
"Oh, Val, you always have the wildest imagination!" Myrtle exclaimed between giggles.
"No, my partner is not a rich old man. He’s a few years older than me though, and we’ve been together for years." Adrienne chimed in, still smiling.
Valerie finally sighed in relief. If that was the case, then she worried too much about Adrienne.
"Was he the one I overheard on the phone? When can I meet your boyfriend?"
Adrienne and Myrtle shared a knowing look before Adrienne said, "Actually, Val, we’re already married. That is why I need to move here."
Valerie was stunned. It hadn’t been too long when Adrienne received a marriage proposal from Alistair Han and got involved with Lennox Qin. Adrienne’s confession today wasn’t something she expected to hear.
"You are what?" She exclaimed.
"I’m married," Adrienne repeated calmly. "We registered our marriage a month ago but haven’t held a ceremony yet. We kept it private for personal reasons. It’s been a complicated situation, so I need to move here to be closer to him."
As they chatted, Lennox entered the room, and Valerie couldn’t help but stare at him in surprise. He was tall and well-built, with piercing dark eyes and a chiseled jawline. He was the kind of man who turned heads wherever he went.
Valerie watched in shock as Lennox Qin sauntered towards them and leaned over to affectionately kiss Adrienne’s crown.
"Sorry, Addie. The phone call took longer than expected. Gavin wanted to make sure we could make it to Jinling on time."
Adrienne smiled at Lennox and allowed him to take a seat beside her.
Valerie watched in disbelief. This meeting was truly far from her expectations.
"Val, this is Lennox, my husband." Adrienne introduced him to Valerie, who shook Lennox’s hand in greeting.
"It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Qin. I would have never thought you were Addie’s boyfriend," Valerie said, trying to hide her surprise at the fact that Adrienne had married Lennox Qin.
Lennox smiled back at her. "Likewise, Miss Xia. Addie has told me so much about you."
His eyes glint with happiness on being introduced as Adrienne’s husband to someone for the first time.
Valerie then laughed, her worries finally forgotten.
"So the boyfriend you’ve been keeping a secret from everyone was Mr. Qin all this time?"
Uh-huh," Adrienne confirmed. "I told you I had to keep his identity a secret. You should have heard how bad Lennox’s injuries were from the news. It’s not the right time to reveal our relationship in public."
Valerie nodded in understanding. Still, she couldn’t believe that her friend managed to marry such an outstanding man. No wonder Adrienne had the guts to reject Alistair Han’s marriage proposal because she already had Lennox Qin by her side.
"I’m relieved that it was Mr. Qin you are married to, Addie. You can’t definitely marry a man like Alistair Han. Kat told me, that he’s bad news, and you’ll be in trouble if you get married to him."
Adrienne only smiled. She knew firsthand how miserable her life was when she was married to Alistair in her previous life. She had experienced the toxic relationship and emotional abuse that came with being married to Alistair, and she was grateful every day that she had found someone like Lennox who treated her with love and respect.
The scars from her past marriage were a constant reminder of why she made the right decision to be with Lennox.
"Yes, Val, I’m glad I didn’t go through with that. Lennox is everything I could ever ask for in a husband," Adrienne said, holding her husband’s hand.
Lennox leaned over to kiss her on the cheek, causing Valerie to look away, feeling a little awkward. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"So, what brings you here today, Val?" Lennox asked, breaking the silence.
Valerie cleared her throat and straightened her posture, feeling a little nervous. She had to be careful about what she said around Lennox Qin.
"I just wanted to check on Addie and see how she’s doing. It’s been a while since we last saw each other. I was worried that she might have been affected by the rumors about the two of you, but I see that my worries were unfounded. Adrienne seems to be doing well and is unaffected by the rumors." Valerie’s voice held a hint of relief as she spoke, trying to hide her emotions about the situation.
"Well, we’re glad you came," Adrienne said with a smile. "We’re actually planning a small get-together next week, and we’d love for you to come."
She then turned her attention to Myrtle, who was busy munching on her snacks. "Myrtle, you’re going too, right?"
Myrtle nodded. "Yeah, I wouldn’t miss it for the world," Myrtle replied, her mouth full of snacks. "It’ll be great to see everyone and have a good time."
Meanwhile, Valerie’s eyes widened in surprise. "You want me to come to your party? But I don’t think I’m important enough for that."
"Nonsense," Lennox said with a grin. "You’re a friend of Adrienne’s, and that’s all that matters. We’d be honored if you could come."
Valerie smiled, feeling a warm sense of belonging. She had always felt like an outsider among the elite of Changshi City, but Adrienne and Myrtle made her feel like she belonged.
"Thank you for the invitation. I’ll definitely come," Valerie said, feeling grateful.
As Valerie prepared to leave, Adrienne pulled her aside and apologized.
"Val, sorry if I didn’t tell you sooner. It was me who asked Myrtle to keep it a secret from you. Please don’t blame her."
Valerie nodded understandingly, appreciating Adrienne’s honesty. She reassured her, "No need to apologize, Adrienne. I understand why you did it, and I hold no grudges against either of you."
