Chapter 241: Mysterious Investor (1)

Adrienne had no idea Alistair was planning something to separate her from Lennox. Once she settled in Jinxiu Garden, she asked Irina one afternoon to drop her off at StarMedia to meet Abigail for the production of the film "Time After Time."

As she expected, her cousin, Ayla Jiang, begrudgingly accepted the supporting role. Adrienne knew Ayla wasn’t stupid enough to miss the opportunity to make a name for herself using this film, but Ayla had no idea it wouldn’t be easy with Adrienne.

Adrienne took the private elevator that led to the CEO’s office along with her lady bodyguards. She was with her personal assistant, who appeared to have come straight out of a fashion magazine, when they arrived at Abigail Li’s office.

"Addie, I didn’t expect you to arrive so early. The meeting hasn’t ended yet. " Abigail stood up from her seat and drew Adrienne into a hug. Adrienne felt a bit awkward, but she accepted the gesture nonetheless.

"I don’t want to cause you any inconvenience, Mom," Adrienne replied once her mother-in-law released her. "I asked you a favor anyway, and I don’t want to be presumptuous." She added.

Abigail’s lips curled up, like her son’s smile, whenever he was pleased with something.

"Addie, you rarely ask me and Nox for something. Of course, I would be more than happy to help you out. You’re family now, and family helps each other," Abigail reassured her warmly. "Don’t ever hesitate to reach out if you need anything."

Adrienne felt a sense of relief wash over her, grateful for the support she had found in her new family. When she married Alistair Han in her previous life, only her Aunt Stella, Myrtle’s mother, treated her kindly in the Han family. She frequently felt like an outsider because of the old matriarch’s constant scrutiny.

But now, with Abigail Li as her mother-in-law, she feels reassured that her vengeance on Ayla Jiang won’t be met with hostility or judgment.

Abigail was aware of how black-hearted Adrienne was, but she was willing to overlook her daughter-in-law’s flaws to see Lennox happy. She could also see the unspoken love Adrienne had for Lennox.

"You’ve invested such a large sum of money. Addie, aren’t you afraid to lose it all?" Abigail asked, genuinely curious about Adrienne’s risk-taking nature.

Adrienne chuckled, her confidence evident as she replied, "I’ve always believed in taking calculated risks. Besides, the potential rewards outweigh the fear of losing."

Abigail nodded in understanding. "It’s a pity that Ayla Jiang made an enemy out of you. She had no idea you could make or break one’s career in the entertainment industry."

"Mother is jesting. The amount I invested couldn’t be compared to others." Adrienne gave Abigail a weak smile. "Even if Ayla knew about it, there’s no way she would swallow her pride and beg me for support."

Ayla was the most conceited woman Adrienne knew in her life. Her cousin would never allow anyone to overshadow her, whether in appearance or popularity. She looked kind and gentle, but others had no idea she was harboring such a wicked heart.

Abigail raised an eyebrow at Adrienne’s words. "What do you plan to do then?"

Adrienne leaned forward, her eyes narrowing with determination. "I’ll make sure she doesn’t rise to fame, no matter what it takes. And if she dares to cross me, I’ll make sure she falls so hard she won’t be able to get up."

Abigail watched her daughter-in-law’s face silently, knowing nothing she could say would change her mind. Adrienne was a force to be reckoned with when she had a goal in mind.

The door to the office suddenly opened, and Lennox walked in with his mother’s assistant at his side. Adrienne’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of her husband, dressed impeccably as always. She hadn’t expected that he would also come here to see his mother.

"Addie, what a pleasant surprise!" Lennox said, crossing the room to embrace her.

Lennox greeted his mother with a smile before sitting down beside Adrienne. "I hope you don’t mind me joining the meeting, Mom. I wanted to hear about the progress of the film Addie has invested in."

Abigail shook her head with a smile. It was the first time she had seen her son interested in her work, something Lennox had never done before. "Of course not, darling. But first, let’s discuss the matter at hand."

Adrienne leaned back in her chair, watching as Lennox listened intently to the discussion about the film. She recalled her conversation with Abigail, her mind already working on a plan to take down Ayla Jiang.

As the meeting ended, Adrienne felt a sense of satisfaction at the progress made in the film. She was pleased to see that her investment was paying off and that the project was on track for success.

The filming of the scenes would start in a week, and she couldn’t wait to see how Ayla would try to steal the spotlight from Sofia Yun.

But Adrienne was prepared for anything that Ayla could throw her way. She was ready to use all her resources to ensure Ayla wouldn’t stand a chance.

As Lennox and Abigail discussed the production, Adrienne’s mind wandered to Ayla. She couldn’t help the feeling of anger that consumed her every time she thought about her cousin.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message notification, causing her to snap out of her thoughts. She looked at her phone and saw a message from Irina. It was a picture of Ayla at a party with some influential people in the entertainment industry.

Adrienne’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the photo. Ayla was scheming, and Adrienne knew it. She couldn’t let her cousin get too close to the people who could give her a boost in her career. Ayla must be finding a way to challenge Sofia’s position as the film’s female lead.

Without hesitation, Adrienne stood up from her seat and excused herself, saying she had some urgent matters to attend to. She quickly left the office, leaving Lennox and Abigail confused.

Once she was alone, she called Irina. "I need you to do some digging on those people in the photo. Find out if they have any upcoming projects that Ayla might be interested in," she ordered.

Irina agreed and hung up, leaving Adrienne to continue with her plans to take down Ayla. She knew she had to act fast if she wanted to keep Ayla from making connections in the industry.
