Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 242: Mysterious Investor (2)
Meeting her mother-in-law wasn’t the only thing Adrienne had in mind that day. She also requested a private meeting with the lead actress of the film "Time After Time." Adrienne was waiting in a vacant conference room when the doors slightly opened, and a young woman in her early twenties stepped inside.
Sofia Yun was considered a newbie actress like Ayla Jiang. Still, her ability to bring each character she played to life with unparalleled depth and authenticity set her apart from the other newbie actors.
Sofia was dressed in a white shirt and tight-fitting black leggings. She looked like she had just run a hundred miles to come here. However, Adrienne remembered that Abigail informed her that Sofia was under rigorous training for her role before the filming started.
"Miss, my manager said you want to meet me," Sofia said softly, breathlessly. She wasn’t sure why her manager asked her to come here in a hurry, as if this meeting was of the utmost importance. However, she was surprised to see a young woman instead. She couldn’t help but think this woman looked familiar.
Sofia had seen many beautiful women in the past, but none had the bearing and presence that this woman possessed. There was something about her that commanded attention and respect. Sofia couldn’t help but feel a sense of curiosity and intrigue as she waited for the woman to speak.
"Miss Yun, please take a seat."
Adrienne couldn’t help but notice the beads of sweat glistening on Sofia’s forehead, evidence of her dedication to her craft. It was clear that Sofia’s commitment to her role went beyond memorizing lines; she fully immersed herself in each character’s physical and emotional aspects.
Sofia hesitated but took a seat nonetheless. She looked around as if waiting for someone to join them, but Adrienne’s bodyguards only stepped out and closed the doors behind them.
"Miss Yun must be wondering why you are here," Adrienne said, hiding her smile behind her cup of tea. "Where’s my manners? I haven’t introduced myself. I’m Adrienne Jiang."
Sofia froze in her seat. No wonder this person looked familiar. Adrienne Jiang’s name has been in the news recently, as she was somewhat involved with Lennox Qin, who happened to be the only child of StarMedia’s CEO, Abigail Li.
However, aside from that, how could Sofia forget that Adrienne Jiang was also Ayla Jiang’s paternal cousin? Netizens claimed that if Adrienne Jiang chose to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, it would be easy to overshadow her cousin.
"Is there something you need from me, Miss Jiang?" Sofia asked nervously. She wondered if Adrienne Jiang came here today to force her to renounce her role and give it to her cousin, Ayla.
"Yes," Adrienne said without batting an eyelid. "I’m the golden thigh you must embrace because I’m the one who made it possible for you to secure the lead role."
Sofia was stunned in place. She knew that a mysterious investor had injected a huge sum of money into the film and never thought it would be Adrienne Jiang. Sofia’s mind raced as she tried to process the implications of Adrienne’s statement. She couldn’t help but wonder what ulterior motives Adrienne might have for being so involved in her success.
"Since I invested a significant amount of money in this film, I have a vested interest in its success," Adrienne continued, sipping her tea. "And you, Miss Yun, are the star of this film. Your performance will determine whether or not this investment pays off."
Sofia listened intently, still unsure of where this conversation was headed.
"I came here to offer you a proposition, Miss Yun," Adrienne said, setting her cup down on the table. "I can ensure that your career in the entertainment industry takes off if you agree to cooperate with me."
Sofia’s eyes widened, surprised at the sudden offer. She had heard of Adrienne Jiang’s reputation as a shrewd person. Rumors branded Adrienne Jiang as a witch who had a bewitching face that could charm anyone into doing her bidding.
"What kind of arrangement are you proposing?" Sofia asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Well, first and foremost, I can help you secure better roles and increase your exposure to the public," Adrienne said, leaning forward in her seat. "But in exchange, I expect you to do everything to overshadow my cousin, Ayla Jiang. Do your best and prove that you deserve this role and not her. "
Sofia hesitated, unsure of what she was getting herself into. But she knew that opportunities like this didn’t come around often, and she couldn’t afford to let this chance slip away. However, it was obvious that Adrienne Jiang had bad blood with her co-star. She wondered if Ayla Jiang was aware that her cousin was the one who was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
"And if I don’t cooperate?" Sofia questioned Adrienne in return.
Adrienne flashed an amused smile and rested her chin on her hand.
"Then, I’m afraid Miss Yun, the lead actress role wouldn’t be yours anymore. You must know that in order to succeed in this industry, talent and luck aren’t enough. Are you sure you want this rare chance to slip away from your grasp?"
Sofia gulped, realizing she had no choice but to cooperate with Adrienne’s proposition. She knew this was a cutthroat industry where only the strongest survived; this was her golden opportunity to make a name for herself.
"I’ll do it," Sofia said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Excellent," Adrienne said, a triumphant smile on her face. "Now, let’s discuss the details of our arrangement."
And so, the two women spent the next hour discussing their action plan. Adrienne would use her connections to promote Sofia and ensure she got better roles in the future. In exchange, Sofia would do everything she could to outshine Ayla Jiang and prove she deserved to be the lead actress in "Time After Time."
As Sofia left the conference room, her mind raced with excitement and fear. She knew she was walking on thin ice; one wrong move could ruin everything. But she was also determined to succeed and prove her worth in the industry.
Sofia knew this was her chance to make a name for herself, and she was willing to take risks and push herself beyond her limits. She was ready to seize the opportunity and show everyone she had what it takes to be a star.
