Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 145: My Lucky Star (2)
Lennox could sense that Adrienne was upset. Whatever Lewis Jiang said to her must have hurt Adrienne deeply. With regard to the happenings within the Jiang family that was related to Adrienne, everything was eventually reported to him.
The bad rumors about her were diminishing thanks to his and Gavin’s intervention. The one who was in a bad light these days was Adrienne’s father.
It was Lennox’s little way of punishing the man for harming his cute little bride. Who gave Lewis Jiang the right to bully their Addie? The one who should bully others should be his wife, as long as they deserve it!
As for Camilla Yan... so what if she was no longer a mistress? She could never get rid of the stain of once being a mistress. Lennox didn’t let her off the hook because she attempted on his mother-in-law’s life.
"You must be tired from the long day. Why don’t you spend the night here? I’ll ask Butler Cheng to prepare a room for you." Lennox whispered gently. He was itching to touch and console her, but he was afraid Adrienne would reject him.
Adrienne opened her eyes and smiled weakly.
"Would you believe me if I tell you my father deemed me a ’star of calamity’? Tonight, he disowned me as his daughter. In his eyes, the only daughter he has is Elise Jiang. I would never understand what my mother saw in such a horrible person. The monk that deemed me as a cursed child was nothing but a con man Camilla hired to besmirch my name."
Lennox’s expression hardened. His pitch-black eyes were filled with such coldness, enough to make others shudder, but not Adrienne. It seemed that the young woman before him was already immune to it.
"The monk said I would bring misfortune to one of my parents, forcing them to die. My foolish father believed him, while my mother disregarded it. Perhaps since that day, my father has never considered me as his daughter. I would rather be fatherless than have a father like him."
Adrienne sized him up with a blank face. Lennox’s appearance had drastically changed compared to when she first met him. He used to have sunken cheeks that made his face more defined and frightening.
Lennox habitually pressed his lips into a thin line whenever he was displeased. His brows were cold and stern, while his lashes were long and thick that most women would envy him for it. He also kept his hair messy, but it wasn’t enough to lessen his beauty—it’s no wonder countless women were fighting for a chance to be with him before.
He carefully placed his hand on top of hers and sighed. For him, Adrienne was like a small pebble that caused ripples in his heart, forcing him to change. No matter how horrible the world viewed her, he could never hate Adrienne.
She was like a ray of sunrise, beautiful and dazzling, that dispelled his life’s darkness. If Adrienne didn’t slap him that day, he wouldn’t get the semblance of what was important to him.
"Your father is a fool, Addie. He was blinded by his jealousy and bitterness towards your mother that he failed to see the gold before his eyes. Star of Calamity? What nonsense are they talking about? To me, you are like a lucky star, Addie. Since you came into my life, I feel like I can overcome any obstacles, so long as you’re by my side."
Adrienne was in a daze. Before she met this man, she had heard things about Lennox Qin. While most of the rumors about him being an ill-tempered and competitive person, Lennox Qin had a gentle side the public would never see.
When speaking to his younger siblings, Adrienne noticed that he would always use a gentle tone and paid more attention to what he was saying. Sometimes, he would also indulge them, surprising Adrienne and Gavin.
"A lucky star, huh?" This was the first time someone called her this.
"If that’s true, I wish to bring my mother luck. If I have to choose who should live between her and my father, I will choose her. However, If I’m truly doomed to bring misfortune to them, I’d rather stay away from my mother."
As she said this, Adrienne’s eyes shone with tears. Her emotions were all over the place. She was thankful the children were asleep and wouldn’t witness her like this. As she thought about it, Adrienne realized that she, Lennox, and his siblings were the unwanted ones. Their fathers abandoned them and treated their existence as a nuisance.
"I haven’t met your mother when she was still awake. I only knew what others knew of her, but I do not doubt you’re the most important person in her life, Addie. She could never hate you." Lennox replied. He was a bit startled that Adrienne was allowing him to see this side of her.
"She would surely be heartbroken once she woke up and realized what had happened during her long sleep. It’s been years now, Len. I do not know if she’ll ever wake up, but I’m unwilling to let her go. She can’t leave without meeting my brother first."
Everyone painted her a horrible person, as she was unwilling to remove her mother from her life support to end her suffering. They were unaware that Rosemary was forced into a coma by that cheating couple.
"You are protecting her. I’m sure your mother would understand. Is your brother still not home yet?"
Lennox knew Hunter wasn’t around lately as he was bound to return to service soon. If Adrienne’s brother discovered what transpired tonight, Lennox had no doubt Hunter would go after their father. Adrienne might have a hard time convincing her brother this time.
"Let’s keep this to ourselves in the meantime. I don’t want my brother to stir any trouble at this time. It will complicate things if his identity is revealed this early. When the right time comes, I will allow him to bully them to his heart’s content."
