Chapter 146: Elaborate Trap (1)

The faint sunlight arrived with a cloud of mist early in the morning. Despite sleeping late last night and waking up early, Adrienne felt refreshed. She didn’t have spare clothes to change into since she spent the night at Jinxiu Garden.

When she took a bath last night, she only had the robe to use to cover herself. However, when Irina knocked on her door that morning, she had brought her several bags of clothes from a popular brand.

"Master Nox said you might need these, Miss." Irina said before placing the bags aside.

Adrienne thanked her, but didn’t send Irina away yet.

"I want you to do something for me, Irina. You should be cautious and ensure that no one will catch you."

"Y-yes?" Irina was taken aback. Since Hunter left, Adrienne had only sent the odd uncle to run errands for her. Irina wasn’t hopeful that Adrienne would eventually ask her, but she was curious about what her mistress would ask her to do this time. Adrienne allowed her to remain idle as all she had to do was make random inquiries for her.

"Observe my stepmother for the next few days. You should find out who she talks to or meet up with. She’s bound to make a move one of these days."

Under Adrienne’s cold and detached eyes, Irina felt a tinge of unease. She lowered her head and said, "I understand."

Irina left immediately and took two other female guards with her, according to her master’s order. The days passed by as they usually did without any commotion, and the three women started to wonder what was Adrienne’s motive for sending them here. Aside from a VIP guest that the Jiang family met the other day, there were no suspicious movements in the Jiang family.

Lewis Jiang was busy with work at Jiang Corporation every day and Cayden Jiang was rarely at home. Camilla stayed at home all day, and there was no conflict within the household. Elise Jiang had also started to associate herself with some young misses.

What’s notable was the sudden change in her personality. Her attitude had mellowed considerably, as if her previous arrogant temperament didn’t exist. Her temperament was gentler than before, a striking contrast to Adrienne’s overbearing and cold persona.

It was until one morning did the three guards noticed Camilla leaving the manor in a hurry. Irina looked at her companions and they came to a silent agreement. They discreetly followed Camilla until they reached a detective agency in an old, dilapidated building.

"Is it a legit agency?" Irina asked while Kalista, who was seated next to her in the passenger seat, worked on her laptop.

"No," Kalista immediately replied. She pushed her spectacles with big lenses to adjust it on her face. "It’s a popular place to hire mercenaries to kill someone."

Irina’s brows shot up. How could their young mistress know Camilla Yan would go to a place like this? And who was Camilla trying to kill this time? 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Camilla was holding a small white box when she stepped out of the place. She was sporting a wide smile, her eyes curving happily as if expecting something good to happen.

Irina made a phone call and informed Adrienne of what transpired that day. She thought Adrienne would ask them to keep tailing Camilla, but their young miss asked them to return at once. Instead of returning to Jinxiu Garden, Irina, Kalista, and the younger elite guard, Leigh, went to Adrienne’s estate.

"Miss, what was Madam Jiang doing at a place like that?" Irina couldn’t help but ask.

"Where do you think she got the drugs she used to keep my mother in a coma? Of course, it was from that place." Adrienne smiled and hummed after taking a sip from her warm drink.

The sky was clear today and though her entrance examination was just around the corner, there wasn’t a hint of nervousness in Adrienne’s face. She cupped her chin and gazed at the flower buds that had yet to bloom in her mother’s garden.

"I wonder what my Aunt Camilla would do this time." She smiled happily, leaving the three women at a loss. They couldn’t figure out what their young miss was thinking at all.

As if on cue, Mother Wang came rushing towards Adrienne with a sour expression on her face.

"Miss Addie, that woman is here to see you. I tried to chase her away, but that shameless mistress insisted she had to meet you. What should I do, Miss Addie?"

"Let her in. It would be a pity not to see what she’ll try to pull this time." Adrienne said nonchalantly.

Camilla arrived a few moments later. She noticed the three unfamiliar bodyguards near Adrienne and her smile slightly faltered.

Meanwhile, Irina and her companions were shocked to see the same white box Camilla had taken from the mercenary shop with her.

"Is there a reason why Aunt Camilla is gracing me with your presence today?" Adrienne asked. She didn’t even bother to offer a seat to her stepmother and instead forced the older woman to stand, despite her being Adrienne’s guest.

Camilla was forced to swallow her anger down and keep the smile on her face. She handed the white box to Mother Wang, who opened it before Adrienne for the latter to see what it was.

"Your grandfather’s old friend came to visit and gifted two precious bracelets to you and Elise. Since you aren’t home, your father asked me to bring this to you instead." Camilla answered excitedly.

Adrienne didn’t respond but instead stared at the familiar bracelet before her. She used to have this same bracelet in her previous life and Camilla had used the same reasoning when she gave it to her. The two bracelets were half of each other and nearly identical. However, there was a secret mechanism behind it that could harm its wearer.

"Old Master Gu has invited all the granddaughters of the Jiang family to attend his granddaughter’s debut."
