Chapter 125: Under the Guise of Protection (1)

Lennox knew that he cannot allow it to happen. He cannot be compacent and endanger Adrienne’s life in exchange for his siblings’ custodies. He could see the helplessness on Hunter’s face, seeing that the man couldn’t do anything to stop his sister. It wasn’t like he didn’t try to convince Adrienne to take some of his people as a security measure, but she simply declined his suggestion.

Initially, Lennox thought Adrienne hated being followed around or being watched. He had this notion that Adrienne had been under pressure when the media reporters used to hound her like wild dogs to slander her reputation. He thought that this was the reason why she hated being tailed around no matter if they were for her own safety or not.

Adrienne only tolerated Hunter and Uncle Shark because they were people she personally selected. If it wasn’t for this, Adrienne would rather be on her own. However, since the incident that had already happened with Liam, Hunter’s concern was valid. If this continued, there was no telling how much longer Adrienne’s luck would run.

This time they were fortunate that she was able to avoid calamity. Adrienne seemed to know the best position to take in a situation, that was if there was no external factors that could distrupt her plans, but what if there was an unforeseen accident that could potentially harm her?

"I’ll try to convince her to add one of my trusted aids to her side. She would be useful to Adrienne." He told Hunter. Lennox wanted to blame anyone, including his younger brother Liam, but he knew that Adrienne was the one who took matters into her own hands.

"Many people from the Jiang family wanted to hurt my sister," Hunter replied. "It would be better if you could send someone capable, who not only could protect her, but is brave enough to contradict Addie when it’s needed."

Lennox considered Hunter’s request and he had already a perfect candidate in his mind. The only issue was whether Adrienne would agree to this new arrangement or not. Perhaps he should leave the convincing to Hunter, but he doubted Adrienne would listen to anyone, given how impenetrable the wall she had set up around herself was.

When they rejoined everyone, they found Adrienne sending Samantha and Noah off for school at the entrance at Jinxiu Garden.

"You’ll still be here once we come back from school, right, Sister Addie?" Noah hesitantly released Adrienne’s hand and looked at her with teary eyes. It was rare for Adrienne to visit Jinxue Garden these days and he feared she was going to forget about him.

"I’m not going anywhere soon, Little One. I’ll be here once you return home." Adrienne promised the young boy and patted his cheek gently.

Hearing her answer, both Noah and Samantha were pleased. They couldn’t wait to come home and spend more time with their sister-in-law.

Liam was already nowhere in sight as he already went up to his designated room to rest. Once the children had left, Hunter followed shortly, leaving Adrienne in Lennox’s company as Uncle Shark would be leaving to do the errands Adrienne had given him to do.

"Addie, can we talk?" Lennox asked, a little too stiff comapred to his usual tone.

"Is this about something about my brother discussed with you?" Adrienne wasn’t stupid. She knew that her brother had some concerns and since he couldn’t deal with it on his own, he sought Lennox for help.

"Don’t take it against your brother, Addie. He’s just worried about you." Lennox said in defense, sensing Adrienne’s growing irritation. Even if she didn’t voice it out, the tightening of her jaws and the slight sneer on her lips were indications that she wasn’t pleased of being questioned about her decision.

Adrienne knew what she did was reckless, but she wouldn’t have done it if she wasn’t confident with her driving skills. However, she also knew that her brother’s concerns were valid and she wouldn’t want him to be in the same situation where he couldn’t do anything for her either.

"What is it then?" She asked.

"Addie, for your brother’s sake, please take one of my people to protect you. I promise she won’t interfere with your plans for revenge." Lennox answered. He knew that what fueled Adrienne to continue was to spite the entire Jiang family and make them pay for what they did to her mother.

"So you can keep an eye on me?" Adrienne hissed and in Lennox’s eyes, she looked like a young cub that was trapped and hurt at the same time. He wondered who made her like this. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"It’s not like I want to put you under surveillance, Addie. Do you think your brother would have asked for my help if he had a better way to deal with it? He’s also at a loss, Addie." Lennox insisted. "Don’t you know how worried he was? If he lost you under his watch, Hunter won’t be able to keep his sanity intact."

Adrienne winced at that. She hated that Lennox was using her brother to gain advantage in their argument, but she also knew he had a point. Wasn’t this why she wanted her brother to return to service and leave her to deal with the schemes? She knew that Hunter won’t be able to understand her ways.

"Take Irina with you. It won’t hurt to add another person to protect you." Lennox tried to persuade her as Adrienne remained silent. Instead, she was staring at him intently as if she was trying to see other intent for his reasonings.

"And if I say no?" She daringly asked after a moment of silence.

Lennox felt a growing headache about to hit him after this conversation.

"Then I will have no other choice but to put a stop to the quest, Addie. Of course, I would still marry you, but I won’t allow you to endanger your life just to get my siblings. Your life is far more important than the inheritance I would get once we manage to retrieve all my siblings. We cannot afford to lose you, Addie."
