Chapter 99: What The Heck Just Happened?

Amaya sat beside Khalil who was lying on the ground and looking at her. Amaya wanted to cry. She felt that there was a lump in her heart. These animals were the only playmates she had back on the island.

"It is my birthday today and you are really making me sad." Amaya pouted.

Khalil gave out a grunt-like snort. He stood up and started rubbing its body with Amaya.

Amaya made a chuffing sound. Soon Strata and her mate and Khalil’s mate circled around Amaya. Kong the ape was still perched on the branch and continued to ignore Amaya.

"Kong, you old man. Come down here and don’t make me chase you. Common, sing me a birthday song." Amaya made a sound similar to the ape.

"In your dreams! Am I that easy to coax?" Kong remained on the branch.

"Is he still angry?" Marx asked Amaya while patting the back of Khalil’s neck.

"Yes. That grumpy old ape is testing my patience."

When the ape did not come down, Amaya grabbed a rope that was made to look like a vine. She pulled her body up with ease and landed beside the ape.

The crowd who was watching her gasps then they started clapping. Amaya smiled at them.

"You grumpy old man. Let’s go down and play." Amaya held the ape with one hand and jumped from the tree. She landed perfectly on both feet beside Khalil.

Amaya played with her animals while Marx stayed at the sideline taking photos. After some time, she asked one of the guards to bring the things that she asked Lilia to prepare earlier. There were chunks of raw meat and a bunch of ripe bananas. There was also a big red watermelon cut in half and 18 thin sticks that were smaller than a barbecue.

"Are you going to celebrate your birthday with them?" Marx was flabbergasted.

"Yeah. We do this every year." Amaya replied happily.

The crowd which have become thicker was watching curiously. Almost all of them has taken out their cell phone to take a video. Marx was glaring at them. If he was in Usturia, his glare alone would scare the people. But this was not his territory.

Amaya arranged the meat in a circular pattern. The tigers and the wolves find their places behind the chunks of meat and they sat down.

"Oh shit! Look at that. The animals are seating down like they are posing for a picture." someone from the crowd exclaimed.

"Unbelievable! Don’t block my way. I am taking photos."

"Daddy, Lola .. watch" a cute voice of a girl was heard. Her father lifted her and put her astride on his shoulder. "Wow! cute.. so cute.." She giggled.

The crowd started to become unruly as people started to push.

The zoo security team tried to secure the area but the crowd was getting out of control.

"Amaya, I think we need to leave. More and more people are coming and someone might get hurt.

"But I haven’t blown my candles yet and they haven’t sung my birthday song and they have not eaten.

Amaya looked at the crowd and she looked unhappy.

She said in a loud voice. "If you don’t behave yourself I will leave." Amaya threatened. It was effective because the crowd stilled for a while.

"People at the front can you please sit down or crouched down so we can see from the back?" A polite voice was heard from the back.

As if there was someone guiding the crowd, people near the railing of the enclosure sat down. Other peopled kneeled.

When Amaya noted that the crowd was no longer unruly, she gave a hand signal. Then the tigers and wolves growled and created a strange sound in unison. The ape jumped and used the rope to perform an acrobatic. After a minute, they stopped and Amaya clapped her hands. She pretended to blow the thin sticks that were stuck in the watermelon.

After that, the animals started slurping on their meat while the ape ate his bananas.

The crowd was shocked. Their eyes bulged and their jaw dropped to the floor. The guards who were watching from the sideline forgot to blink. If an enemy attacked at that moment, Amaya could have been subdued easily because her guards were too shocked to move.

Marx who had spent a few days with her on the island was also dumbfounded.

"Did you see that, wifey? What the heck just happened?" An old man in the crowd asked his wife.

"What was that?" Another man asked.

"Hey, did you get a photo and a video? A woman asked the person in front of her who had an unobstructed view of the animals. "Can you share them with me?"

The people started looking at each other and asking questions. They did not understand what just happened.

"Daddy, that girl is celebrating her birthday. The animals are her friends. They sang happy birthday to her Daddy. Can you get me some animals to join my birthday?"

The father was surprised to hear his daughter say so many words. She seldom talks. Just when did her daughter’s vocabulary increase? She was autistic and yet amongst the crowd, she was the only one who comprehended what just happened. His eyes reddened. There might be hope for his precious daughter.

Everybody looked at the little girl who was perched on her father’s shoulder.

"What did the little girl say? The animals sang happy birthday. Do animals know how to sing?" A mother holding her son commented.

"I heard them growl"

"Yes, but the growls are unique. Did you notice that they made a sound at the same time?"

"I told you, they were singing together for her!" the little girl was excited as she pointed to Amaya. "Daddy, can I go there?" the girl asked in a sweet cute voice.

Her father was in a daze. He felt her daughter kick him gently.

"No Lola. Those are wild animals and dangerous. I’ll buy you a cat and a dog."
