Chapter 59: Never Agreed To Be Your Fiance

"Let go!" Marx barked at her.

Fiona froze for a second before letting go. Marx’s callousness hurt her. He used to be cold but at least he still treated her civilly. But now he was treating her like she was trash. She walked around the table and stood in front of Marx.

She leaned forward and the deep V of her dress displayed her fair skin and cleavage. "Why are you treating me like this? Am I not your fiancee? Why are you so cold and harsh to me?" Fiona was playing the pitiful card and at the same time, she was trying to seduce Marx with her beautiful body.

"I never agreed to be your fiance. It was my father and my grandfather who made that arrangement with your family. I told you before that I do not love you and I cannot love you." Marx was indifferent.

"But why? Am I not good enough for you? Is my family background not enough? Don’t you like me to continue being a model? I can stop and help Dad in the company." Tears started falling from her big eyes.

"I tried hard to like you in the past few years. But feelings cannot be forced."

Fiona stood straight. She was still crying and even cried harder when Marx uttered his second sentence. There were so many rich and famous men who were scrambling at their feet to woo her and yet here she was standing piteously before a man who has no ounce of like for her. She even became more determined to have him in her claws.

"Your parents have already agreed to the engagement. Soon, we will have our wedding. Whether you like it or not, I will be Mrs. Marx Skylar."

Marx glared at her. Just where does her confidence come from?

"I, Marx Skylar will not allow somebody else to control my life. Not even my parents." Marx said in a calm voice. It was so calm that it scared Fiona out of her wits. He pressed a button under his table and his secretary came rushing in.

"Escort Miss Chase out of my office. And I don’t want to be disturbed in the next two hours." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Phoebe, his secretary nodded and she respectfully asked the seething Fiona to follow her out of the CEO’s office.

"You have to let me know if there is anyone who is seducing my fiance. Do you understand?" Fiona showed her domineering side.

"I understand Miss Fiona. But you do know Boss Marx right? He finds women annoying and he is always cold and aloof to the female species. One glare from him and any woman who wanted to seduce him will turn to jelly and run away from the scare."

"That’s good then. It gives me comfort to hear that. He treats all women the same way. But someday, he will treat me differently. He will be at my beck and call." Fiona smiled at Phoebe but how come Phoebe felt that Fiona’s expression was like that of an evil concubine in her favorite ancient drama?

When it was lunchtime, Marx together with Karl went to the 2nd floor where all the restaurants were situated. The second floor was crowded but the restaurant they were heading to has very few customers because of the exorbitant price of the meal. A waiter held the door for them and led them to a VIP room.

Marx scanned the people in the room and he frowned when he noticed that Fiona and her parents were there along with his father and grandfather.

"How are you, Governor?" he extended his hand as he greeted Fiona’s father. Karl followed suit.

"Don’t stand on ceremony. Take a seat and eat. Look at you. You just came from your flight this morning and you are already working. Don’t tire yourself so much." The governor of Usturia’s Province 1 was Fiona’s father and his father’s friend and classmate in college.

Marx was forced to sit beside Fiona as Karl has left the seat vacant for him. The waiter placed a plate of a medium rare steak with mashed potato and a side dish of veggies in front of Marx and Karl as the rest have already had their orders served. Marx asked for a low-alcohol red wine for himself and Karl.

"I wasn’t around when you were rescued from the plane crash. I am sorry to hear about the plight of the rest of the crew. I was horrified when I received the news." The governor said somberly. Marx was not sure if he was sincere or just putting on a front.

"Dad, the important thing is, Marx is back and safe." Fiona looked at Marx lovingly. Marx however was focused on his steak as he ate it elegantly.

"Were you able to recover the plane’s black box?" The governor who was slicing his steak into bite sizes, looked at Marx briefly and was waiting for his answer.

Marx remembered the scene at the crash site and his thoughts drifted to the time when they were being chased by anacondas and how Amaya bravely and accurately killed them with her arrows.

"No. Unfortunately, the crash site was the lair of the anacondas. I was told it was their mating season and the snakes were at their fiercest. We barely made it alive." Marx paused, he contemplated if he will tell them that all of the crew were swallowed by the anaconda.

"We? I was told that none of the crew survived." The governor looked at Marx’s grandfather who was munching on his steamed fish.

"I am talking about the long-lost first princess of Lireya. She was the one who saved me and accompanied me to the crash site to retrieve the satellite phone." Marx shared his experiences casually.

"Brother, how about we do a documentary of what happened to you on the island? I am pretty sure a lot will offer to buy the filming rights." Karl became excited. He was thinking about that ever since his brother arrived from the island but did not have the chance to discuss it with him.

Marx glared at his brother, but a part of him wanted to relieve the memories he shared with Amaya on that island.
