Chapter 40: Don’t Cry Grandma

"Mother, let us have lunch first. Then we can go to Ibrahim later." Prince Ibarra spoke.

"Can’t he have lunch with us?" The queen’s voice was tired and weary.

King Duncan and Prince Ibarra looked at each other helplessly.

Amaya was baffled. ’Why cant they tell grandma that Daddy has died?’

"Grandma, I am hungry and excited to eat Lireyan food. Can we eat first and see Daddy later?"

"I don’t understand." The queen paused and looked around. "Everyone is here so why can’t Ibrahim be not here." The queen said stubbornly.

"Grandma," Amaya looked at her gently. "Three years ago, the night I turned fourteen, Daddy and I were watching the stars one bright cloudless night when he told me that he cannot accompany me for long. I did not understand what he was trying to say until I found him the following morning. He died on his sleep with a happy smile on his face."

It took some time for the queen to process what Amaya has said. Tears started falling from her eyes.

"Grandma, I will never forget Daddy’s look that morning. His hand was outreached as if grasping someone’s hand. His aura during his death was peaceful and joyful. It seemed to me as if angel or maybe Mommy descended from heaven and took him home."

Amaya reached out to wipe away the silent years in her grandma’s eyes.

"Don’t cry Grandma. Daddy died smiling so he must be a happy man. He is finally with the woman he loved."

Amaya looked at her grandfather who was now standing behind the wheelchair instead of the nurse. "He told me a long time ago that he has no more grudges and has let go and forgiven those who hurt and betrayed him. He said that after all, whatever he lost, he gained back in the end.

King Duncan’s hand tightened on the handle of the wheelchair. A teardrop escaped from his eyes.

Queen Lucinda felt something wet fall on her head. She looked up and saw her husband’s reddened eyes.

He lowered his head and whispered in a hoarse voice. "Did you hear that my queen? Our son has forgiven me. The burden I have carried for so long has finally been lifted."

For the first time after that wedding day, the queen looked at him and smiled. She suffered bouts of depression after she found out that her husband and her first born colluded together to betray Ibrahim and Danaya.

"Let us eat. I am hungry. I’d like to sit beside my little Aya."

King Duncan’s heart warmed. He rejected the nurse’s offer to push the chair but pushed it by himself.

At the other side of the banquet hall, Sapiro and Amaro, sons of King Duncan from his concubines were discussing something. They did not hear everything but they caught key points that made them sneer.

"Did you hear that brother? Amaya is claiming that Ibrahim is her father." Sapiro said.

"This is getting interesting." Amaro agreed.

They did not notice that a tall man with blue eyes was standing beside them and hear their whispers. His eyes flickered and he pursed his lips.

During lunch Amaya was seated beside the queen and Marx as special guest was seated beside her.

Zanzara, the first concubine’s twenty one year old granddaughter made arrangements so she could be seated beside Marx. She felt attracted to the aloof CEO the moment she laid her eyes on him.

"Cousin Amaya, how did you learn how to use the spoon and fork?" She asked.

Marx threw her a sharp glare. She had mistaken it for a show of interest.

"Daddy Ibrahim made spoon and fork out wood and we had chopsticks too." She always refer to her daddy as Daddy Ibrahim because she was also calling the crown prince as Daddy.

"I just thought people in the jungle used their hands to eat." Zanzara said carelessly. "You know like Tarzan." She added tactlessly.

"Ibrahim who is your Uncle is a civilized man. Why would he let Amaya live like a savage? Check the internet and search Ibrahim Rocas and you will find all the utensils he made while marooned in the island." Marx said coldly.

Zanzara smiled seductively to Marx. ’He seemed angry but it does not matter. He talked to me and his voice sounded so sexy.’ She fluttered her eyelashes before saying. "Thank you for the advise. I will check it out. By the way, my name is Zanzara Rocas." She said in a coquettish voice. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

’Idiot!’ Marx ignored her. He reached out for a platter of fried chicken which Aya has been eying longingly but cannot get because it was too far away from her."

"Aya, your favorite." He placed two drumsticks on her plate."Thank you Marx." She beamed at him.

The queen noted the gentle and doting look he has given to Amaya and he called her Aya.

"Who is this fine gentleman sitting beside my little Aya?" Queen Lucinda asked with a twinkle in her eyes.

Marx stood and bowed slightly to the queen.

"I am Mark Skylar from Usturia Your Majesty. My plane crashed in the island where your granddaughter was. She saved my life." He said politely before going back to his seat.

"He also saved my life Grandma. He took me out of Miraga Island and brought me here." Amaya added.

"Thank you for saving my little Aya." The queen thanked Marx.

"Don’t mention it Your Majesty. We actually owe each other." he said.

Prince Ibarra was not happy with his mother interacting with Marx like they have known each other previously. He always felt that Marx’s aura was imposing and he was a dangerous man.

Zanzara cast an envious look towards Amaya. The man that caught her attention seemed to like her wild and boorish cousin. But she will not let this excellent man slip from her finger. She looked him up in the internet and she found that he’s the CEO of the Skylar Conglomerate.

’He must be very rich and he is so handsome!’ Zanzara started to hatch a plan in her mind how to seduce the blue-eyed CEO.

Unknown to her, her sister Tatiana and her cousin Shanaya have the same mindset as her.

Amaya frowned when she noticed her cousins ogling Marx. She didn’t know why they looked at Marx that way but she felt something was wrong though she cannot point a finger to it.

She looked at Marx and saw him pursed his lips and and his usually gentle face looked cold. When he noticed Amaya staring at him, he turned towards her and gave her a gentle smile.

Zanzara leaned towards Marx and whispered in his ear. "Can you please pass a fried chicken to me?" She whispered in what she thought was a seductive voice.

Marx glared at her. Zanzara shrunk back when she stared at his cold blue eyes that was seemingly like a bottomless chasm. She felt a chill down her spine.

’How scary his eyes are!’
