Chapter 263: Conspiracy

Amaya looked around. "Can we go to the private meeting room?"

King Duncan and Prince Ibarra looked at each other and frowned.

The king dismissed Queen Lucinda and everyone in the throne room including Marx.

"Grandpa, it is okay for Marx to stay. He can help me provide the details."

King Duncan regarded Marx with inquisitive eyes. He did not say anything and Amaya treated that as a yes.

The King pressed a series of buttons on the armrest of his throne. The wall behind the throne opened and the four of them entered the secret chamber.

"What is so important and confidential that you cannot say it outside?" King Duncan asked. He was curious as to what Amaya would say.

"Grandpa, Dad, that Mountain is a big laboratory. There is a research facility there. Unfortunately, something went wrong and the facility was destroyed."

"What did you say, Amaya?" the crown prince asked in surprise. He remembered the rumor about a genius scientist who was obsessed with mythical half-human half-animal creatures.

"I am pretty sure you have some hint, Daddy Ibrahim?"

The crown prince looked at his father. There was worry on his face. A few years ago, there were rumors that the king of Ra-Iya was developing a kind of weapon that he would use to protect Ra-Iya. However, he got an intel that King Ralden has an ambition of reuniting the four countries of Aesian just like it used to in the past.

The spy that shared that intel however disappeared. The information was unverified and after some time they had forgotten about that.

"I have some rough idea. Go on."

"We stumbled into an abandoned research facility. It is not an ordinary one. There were a lot of skeletons and there were sign that everyone in the facility was masscred."

King Duncan and Prince Ibarra were silent. They did not want to interrupt Amaya so she can continue with her narration.

"There were journals and photos of the experiments made."

"Can we see them?" King Duncan asked.

"Marx will show that later." Amaya paused as if she remembered something. "Before that, I came across an animal that looked like the minotaur of the Greek Mythology."

King Duncan’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped. He plopped weakly on a chair. Prince Ibarra’s paled.

"It is true! That lunatic really did it?" King Duncan exclaimed.

Amaya and Marx looked at King Duncan in confusion.

"Grandpa, do you know that scientist?"

"His name is Alberto Estinye. He is a native of Lireya. We were classmates in college. He was a good friend of mine. He excelled in all subjects but was a genius in the field of science, especially Genetics and Zoology. I was the Crown Prince then when he approached me and told me his wild ideas."

"I berated him and told him that he was crazy and that he would go against the natural order of things and what he wanted to do is immoral." There was a hint of sadness and regret when the king spoke.

"I assume that he went to Ra-Iya and the King of Ra-Iya at that time supported him." King Duncan paused as if trying to chase a memory.

"What else did you find out there?" Prince Ibarra was getting unsettled.

"There is a pack of wolf that is very different from ordinary ones. They are very big, ferocious and extremely intelligent." Amaya paused and a flicker of sadness appeared in her eyes. ’And they are extremely loyal and devoted to their mate.’ she added silently.

"Do they have human body parts?" King Duncan asked curiously.

Amaya was about to answer "No" but she remembered the wolf’s paws that resembled human hands.

"Their paws resembled human hands and most of the time, they stood on two legs instead of four making them even enormous. Strata is nothing compared to them. It is just like comparing heaven and earth."

"Are they that powerful?" King Duncan asked nervously. What if Ra-Iya used them as a killing machine in battle?

"They are not invincible. Though you need a special bullet to hurt or kill them. It is the wolf that massacred and destroyed the research facility." Amaya said with certainty.

"Considering the importance of the research facility, it should have been heavily guarded." Prince Ibarra was skeptical.

"The attacker came from the inside and probably the people in the facility were caught off guard."

"What other animals did you encounter?" King Duncan asked. He wanted Amaya to finish without interruption.

"We came across a half-human half-horse animal. This is similar to the Centaurs. The upper body is that of a human while the lower body is a horse." Amaya was recalling the beautiful scenery at the peak of Mount Paraiso.

"Oh, I almost forgot. The centaurs also have a pair of hands on their upper body. They speak better compared to the half-bull half-human creatures."

Amaya stole a glance at Marx. Initially, she did not want to tell her Grandpa and Dad about the spider and the snake but since she had started sharing them, then she would tell everything.

"We also encountered a human spider. It has a human head and upper limbs. The other parts of the body were all spiders. It spawned so many poisonous spiders the size of a fist."

The father and son’s facial expression has turned ugly. They did not know that Amaya was exposed to such danger.

"How did you come out unscathed?" Prince Ibarra asked. Even if she grew up in the jungle, those are still poisonous spiders and there were too many of them.

"Marx and Vasquez have laser guns. Those spiders are nothing. Also, we fought their mother and she lost. When the mother was defeated, the spiders did not bother with us anymore."

King Duncan glanced at Marx. He knew that one of the companies under the Skylar Conglomerate was into weapon manufacturing as they were the sole provider of weapons and technology to the Usturian army. It wouldn’t be a loss if he becomes his grandson-in-law.
