Chapter 218: The Story of Sofia 2

"Your father was a high-ranking official at that time. He made a lot of enemies. My guess is that, the people who murdered Madam were your father’s enemies."

Sanya was silent for a long time. Her thoughts were in turmoil. She had always wondered why she did not look like any of her parents which she was thankful for because she knew that she was very beautiful and her parents were just average-looking. She was the princess of the Circus and even though people doted on her and treated her well, she still detested her life.

Just like any other circus troupe, they did not stay in one place so they did not have permanent homes. They travel in caravans and live in bunk wagons. It was a difficult life and Sanya hated it for a long time. Her father, the ringmaster was also very strict with her. He trained her very hard and when she made a mistake she would be severely punished.

Now, the woman whom she called mother was not actually her mother but her nanny. Her family must be rich for her to be assigned a nanny.

Sanya felt smug. She made a resolve to look for her family when she got the chance. Their next destination will be near the Capital. She will leave at that time.

"Where is that dumb woman?" A loud shout came from inside the big bus that the ringmaster had converted into a mini-house. "Marina, where are you? Come over here and help me wash!" The drunk master appeared on the small door of the bus.

Marina sighed. Her husband was drunk and she was pretty sure that she would get a lot of bruises.

"You go rest early. Tomorrow, we will set out for the Zansie Province." Marina reminded her before heading to their bus.

Sanya watched her mother’s back for a long time. ’Why did she not look for her family? Why did she wait for a long time before telling her about her background?’

Sanya resented her ’mother.’ If indeed her family is rich, then wasn’t she the reason for her suffering? She breathed deeply and tried to control her emotions. Perhaps she just wanted to protect. The resentment in her heart slowly dissipated. She should still be grateful to her. If not for that coincidence, then maybe, she would have died already.

Sanya stayed seated on the wooden bench for a long time. She only stood up when she could no longer stand the itchiness of the mosquito bites.

Sanya dragged her heavy feet toward the camper van that she shared with three other female circus performers. Their sleeping quarters were really cramped. Though she had gotten used to it, she still hated it as the bunk bed was very small and uncomfortable.

"Hey, Sanya, that was one heck of a performance earlier." Her roommate blurted out the moment she sat on her small bed. "How could you dance like that? You looked like a fairy and you seemed to be floating in the air as your feet do not seem to touch the floor."

Sanya glanced at the nosy girl who was sitting in front of her. She did not want to answer but she will definitely pester her. "It is because I practice a lot. You know how father punishes me the moment I make a mistake."

"I hope I have a father like you. You are undisputed in dancing. You make the animals obey you and your knife skill is so amazing."

"But I suffered a lot." A glint flashed across Sanya’s eyes. She laid down and covered herself with the blanket. Her roommate understood that she did not want to be disturbed.

That night, Sanya dreamt that she was inside a luxurious bedroom. The wall was painted with a light shade of pink. A servant told her that the bathtub was ready and Sanya stepped into a bathroom that was bigger than two camper vans combined.

The bathtub looked inviting as there were rose petals scattered on the water’s surface. Sanya slipped into the bathtub. The water was warm and not too hot. She felt so comfortable that she fell asleep. The next moment she felt herself drowning.

She opened her eyes but there was a pillow covering her face and someone was pressing on the pillow. No wonder she felt that she was drowning. She groped for the dagger under her pillow but before she could use her hand to slash at someone pressing on the pillow, the pillow was lifted off her face.

"Sanya, you were moaning and breathing heavily so I came to check. I saw that the pillow was covering your face so I took if off. Did you have a nightmare?"

Sanya’s eyes flickered for a moment. Was she hallucinating earlier?

"Yes, I dreamt that I was soaking in a luxurious bathtub and then I fell asleep. I almost drowned." Sanya spoke nonchalantly.

Helena smiled and talked to Qin Snaya. "You even have such beautiful dreams."

Sanya thought hard. Did she misjudge the woman before her? Did she really intend for her to die?

"Let us go back to sleep. It is still very dark outside." Sanya said while yawning. She was in a bad mood because her sleep was interrupted halfway.

Helena nodded without objection. She moved toward her bed and lay down to sleep. Then a scene from the afternoon’s show flashed before her mind. Sanya was wearing a white flowing dress that rustled and fluttered as she gracefully swayed her body to the music and the beat of the drums. She held onto two ropes and somersaulted in the air revealing a pair of beautiful slender legs that captivated the audience including the handsome teenage son of the acrobat legend in the circus.

He is Helena’s crush.

A cold glint appeared in her eyes and her lips curved sinisterly.

"Good night Sanya. Sweet dreams!" Helena said sweetly, her gaze fixed on the figure lying peacefully less than a meter away.
