Chapter 217: The Story of Sofia

Princess Amaya looked at the beautifully plated dessert of a small portion of glutinous rice. It looked like it was cooked with coconut milk and pomegranate juice and dipped in honey. It was garnished with two thin strips of mango and at the side were three pink fresh rose petals and two petals dipped in white chocolate.

Amaya took the small spoon, scooped a small portion of the glutinous rice, and put it into her mouth. Her eyes widened as the rich sweet with a slightly sour taste tickled her taste buds.

"This tastes pretty good." She said delightfully. The speed at which she scooped the remaining dessert on her plate increased and her plate was emptied in no time. She even finished the fresh rose petals.

Tatiana and Shanaya were shocked when they saw Princess Amaya eat the petals.

"Cousin, did you also eat the rose petals?" Tatiana asked, seemingly ashamed on behalf of her cousin.

"Yes. Aren’t they for eating?"

Sofia who was elegantly eating the same dessert snorted.

"Well, I think it is there for decoration," Shanaya said, looking at Amaya pitifully.

"But rose petals are edible. It tastes a lot like its fragrance, delicate and slightly sweet." Amaya said in a non chalant manner. "Can I ask for another serving?" She asked no one in particular but soon, a servant came and served her a second serving of the dessert.

Amaya ate the dessert with gusto.

"Eating rose petals has a lot of benefits. It bestows flavonoids, antioxidants, and immunity-boosting vitamins and minerals. As you know, antioxidants strengthen our hearts and blood vessels, and the astringent action in the body tightens inflamed tissue, soothing sore throats, and coughs." Amaya paused and scooped the three fresh petals and the two chocolate-coated ones and brought it to her mouth. Then she smiled to her cousins who were looking at her dumb-struck.

"Well said, Princess Amaya. I didn’t know that you are so knowledgeable." Sofia also ate the rose petals. "It can also help in burning unwanted body fat and aid to lose weight. You should try this, Queen Zanzara."

Sofia’s voice was pleasant, but Zanzara thought that there was something wrong with the way she said it. Did she mean that she, the queen is fat and should lose weight?

Zanzara glared at Sofia but did not say anything. King Ralden was beside her and Sofia was after all one of his wives. Even though her position is higher in terms of status, she could not put Sofia in a difficult situation with so many people around.

Sofia snickered when she did not hear a retort from the queen. She cast a sideway glance to her direction and decided in her heart that she will make things difficult for her. How dare she become the queen? She doesn’t deserve it. Not in terms of look and intelligence. If it was Princess Amaya, then she would be a worthy opponent.

If only she was not a half-blood. Sofia was in a daze as memories as recalled fragments of her memories, some of which were told to her while the others were deeply engraved in the depths of her brain.

She did not have a happy childhood. She grew up in a circus and she thought that the ringmaster was her father. She hated him for his ruthlessness. He was a perfectionist and he subjected Sofia to rigorous training.

Then one day, after nearly being hit by a knife when her father hung her on roulette and forced her brother to throw knives at her to punish her for falling from the back of the tiger while doing a stunt, she cursed her father loudly. Her mother heard her wailing. She could not take it anymore. She could watch Sanya live in misery every day.

"Sanya, listen very carefully. My heart aches for you. You do not deserve your life here. You are big now, so go look for your family."

The fourteen-year-old Sanya frowned as she looked at her mother whose tears were falling like torrents.

"What do mean Mother?" Sanya asked with big eyes.

"Sit down. I will tell you a story." Her mother patted a wooden bench beside her. Sanya sat down obediently.

"Thirteen years ago, a madam from a rich family went for a vacation to her maiden family on the outskirts of the Maizan Province in Chaneya together with her one-year-old daughter. A circus came to town at that time. Madam wanted to watch the circus and so she brought her daughter, her daughter’s nanny, and a few bodyguards with her.

While waiting for the show to start, the toddler pooped and the nanny had no choice but to go to the restroom to clean the child. When the nanny left, it so happened that another family came to sit on the left side of Madam. The nanny and a baby girl sat beside the Madam, while the baby’s mother sat to the farther left of the Madam.

A decent restroom was quite far away. Even after a long time, the nanny and the child still have not returned.

The show started and the Madam was so engrossed in watching she did not notice that a few men surrounded her.

The nanny had finished cleaning up the baby and was on her way back. Suddenly she heard gunshots and screams. She immediately hid behind a pillar and watched as she saw her Madam bathe in her crimson blood. The woman sitting beside her holding a baby was also shot. The nanny was so scared that she fainted. When she woke up, she was inside a tent, and a man whom she recognized as the ringmaster was looking at her intently.

She made up stories about how she ran away from home. Her family was maltreating her because she got pregnant out of wedlock.

The ringmaster took her in and she became his mistress. He also took an interest in the toddler and when she was old enough to walk, he started training her. He threw her into the tiger cubs to let her tame and train them at a young age. He taught her dancing, some circus stunts, and throwing knives."

Her mother sighed. "You should know the rest of the story."

"Mother, then where is my family? Why did no one look for me?" Sanya asked with a troubled expression.

"Your family lives in the capital. They probably thought that you died because there was a baby behind Madam."

"Then, are you the Nanny?" The woman nodded. Sanya clenched the hem of her blouse.

"Who is my father?"
