Raised From The Wild-Chapter 215: Throne Room in the Colesseum
Princess Amaya entered the throne room with two of her guards following behind. A gust of fresh air wafted into the room and a subtle and pleasant smell of hundreds of flower scents reached the noses of those who were in the throne room.
The king and the guard turned toward the princess at the same time. King Ralden has a charming smile on his face.
"Are you looking for me, Princess?" His magnetic voice caused Amaya to stare at him in a daze.
’No, I am not looking for you. I am looking for my guard.’ That is what she said in her heart.
"Hmm. I heard that Your Majesty will personally give the money to the person who won the bet. I would like to meet the person who was so bold to place a bet on us."
King Ralden cleared his throat.
The guard coughed lightly.
The princess looked at the two of them strangely. Did they imply they were the bettors?
Hamir, King Ralden’s trusted aide and guard opened his mouth and divulged the information. "Actually there are two people who placed the bet on you, Princess." Hamir tried to speak in his most gentle and pleasant voice.
King Ralden glanced at him coldly. ’When did this man learn to speak like that? Is he flirting with the Princess?’
"Let me guess. Those two are, of course, my personal guard and my other guard." Amaya said proudly.
King Ralden: "..."
"You are wrong, Princess," Hamir interjected.
"Huh, it is wrong? It couldn’t be King Ralden, right?" Amaya asked innocently.
"You hurt my feelings, Princess. Why could it not be me? I have full confidence in you." King Ralden said aggrievedly.
It made Amaya feel guilty and it showed on her face.
"You don’t have to be guilty about it." Her guard reminded her. Amaya masked the guilt that was showing on her face with a smile.
King Ralden looked at Hamir. Hamir approached Valdez and took his bank account number. After a few minutes, the fund transfer was completed.
"Congratulations on winning 50% of the bet."
Valdez murmured a ’Thank You.’ He felt sour when he saw the amount of money that entered somebody else’s bank account. The thing that he regretted the most was, right at the moment he clicked the submit button, the betting was closed.
Princess Amaya looked around and noticed that the three sides of the wall were decorated with lifesize portraits of the kings of Ra-iya. Her gaze wandered to the ceiling above. Instead of a chandelier hanging at the ceiling, she saw a big dome-shaped glass ceiling with opening on the sides that let the air come in but keep the water out even with the strongest storm.
’So this should be the blinding thing that we saw when we were still far away.’ Amaya thought. Her glance fell on the stairway at the side. It led to the balcony which was almost the same level as the dome.
"So this is the famous 33 steps that led to a marble throne?" Amaya looked at the king and asked.
King Ralden just hummed.
Amaya went up the stairs and climbed up. Her guards and King Ralden followed her. She was amazed when she reached the top.
"Though the throne is magnificent, it is too difficult to watch the activities below from this height."
Hamir frowned. He thought that the princess was really tactless. Did she really have to say those words?
King Ralden coughed lightly.
"It was the third king who added the throne room and this balcony here. He used this when he had an important announcement to make. He loved to show off his power."
"What a great heritage." Amaya marveled at the craftsmanship of the throne design and even the balcony. She looked at one of her guards. "Does Lireya have similar heritage sites?"
"Yes, Princess. Lireya has a few structures from centuries ago that survived the test of time." The guard said proudly.
"What a shame! I have been in Lireya for three months but I haven’t explored it yet." She muttered to herself. She made a mental note to visit the heritage sites of her county.
After taking a last look at the view outside the Colosseum and at the arena below, Amaya descended the stairs.
"There are thirty-three vertebrae in the spine. The spine supports the head which contains the brain. I wonder what was in the king’s mind when he built the throne up there?" Amaya asked in a daze.
"It is a symbol of power and wisdom." King Ralden answered for her.
The princess just nodded. Just as she guessed.
Halfway through her descent, she paused. The sun was now midway between the east and west. The shadows cast were at their shortest.
Amaya looked at the tiled floor and saw the silhouette of the different kings forming a circle. They seemed to be cupping their hands and bowing in one direction which was toward the place where King Ralden’s lifesize photo was pasted on the wall.
Amaya was dumbfounded. Wasn’t King Ralden too narcissistic? Wasn’t he insulting the previous kings by doing such a thing?
"What is wrong, Princess? Why do you seem to be affected by those ugly reflections on the floor?" Her guard asked her.
"Ugly reflections," Amaya repeated. "What do you see on the floor?"
"A bunch of oblong shapes that do not make sense." Her personal guard told her.
Amaya blinked twice. She looked at the reflection on the floor but she was still seeing the same thing.
"Why, what do you see, Princess?’" Her guard asked her.
Amaya hesitated for a while before telling them what she sees.
"I see eleven kings, crowns on their heads, and their heads bowed. They are bowing to one direction which is the portrait of the current king."
King Ralden coughed twice when he heard Amaya’s words.
Hamir looked at the princess in a new light. He admired her for her keen sense. She saw through the symbolism of the reflection.
Her personal guard studied the reflection on the floor. After hearing Amaya’s insights, he started to see what she was seeing. ’What an arrogant king! Does he think that he is better compared to the previous kings?’
King Ralden cleared his throat. "Don’t overthink, Princess. That’s just the previous kings showing their blessings to the current king!"
