Chapter 160: A Rare Moment

Princess Consort Nelida pursed her lips. The queen has spoken. She looked at her father-in-law and her husband. None of them did show any sign of contradicting the queen.

The pup seemed to understand that the threat has been resolved. He jumped from the queen’s lap and ran toward Yohan. He bit the hem of his trousers and pulled him. Amaya understood what the little wolf wanted to do. She picked up a frisbee from the cage and threw it in the air. The pup chased it and brought it back to Amaya.

Amaya frowned. Why does she feel that the pup was acting like a dog and not a wolf? Did Dave train him to do such things?

Amaya walked toward Yohan and gave him the frisbee. Yohan threw it in the air but it landed just two meters from where they were. Spirit followed the frisbee and brought it back to Yohan but the pup looked disappointed. Yohan laughed delightfully. His laughter was like music to the ears of the adult whoe were standing around.

Amaya lifted Yohan. He should be able to throw the frisbee further if he threw it from a certain height.

"Sis, let me." Donello reached out and took Yohan from her and let him sit on his shoulders. Yohan was ecstatic. It was the first time that his brother let him sit on his shoulders. He lifted both of his hands in the sky and shouted gleefully. "Look, I am taller than everyone else."

Prince Ibarra’s long face showed a rare sincere smile and gentleness. When the twins were still young, he was able to spend time playing with them in the garden. But he was not able to do that to his other children. Maybe it was because they don’t have their mothers to pester him to play with them.

Everyone laughed at the little boy’s statement. Amaya handed him the frisbee. "Throw it as far as you can. Show sister how strong your muscles are."

Yohan held the frisbee tightly. He swung his little hand as far as he could and the frisbee landed a little further away. Spirit followed it and he jumped into the air and caught the plastic ring in between his mouth and ran back to Donello. The little wolf placed the plastic ring in front of Donello’s feet.

Prince Ibarra approached Donello. With his big strides, he was in front of him in no time. He picked up the frisbee. "Let me hold him." Prince Ibarra said in a gentle tone. He wasn’t speaking as the crown prince but rather as a father.

Princess Consort Nelida was watching as the side. The hatred in her heart towards Amaya was getting stronger. In the past few years, she had successfully alienated Ibarra from his other children but things changed when Amaya arrived. Even Donello liked her so much that he adored her more than he does with his twin sister.

Prince Yohan was nervous at first when his father lifted him and put him on his shoulders. However, he wanted to please his father so much that he forgot about his fear. He gathered his strength and he threw the frisbee on with all his might. The frisbee flew into the air and it floated for some time before it fell on the ground. It landed farther away.

"Very good, Son. You are improving in strength." Prince Ibarra lifted Yohan from his shoulder and put him on the ground to wait for Spirit.

"Good boy!" Yohan patted the baby wolf.

"What is his name?" Prince Ibarra asked the little prince as he patted his hair.

"His name is Spirit, Father," Yohan said while pouting slightly.

"It is a nice name."

Prince Ibarra looked at Nelida who was standing silently beside his queen mother. "Everyone is here, except Danella. Is she still not back from school?"

"She is on her way back. She got delayed because she watched the championship tournament for fencing." The princess consort answered her husband in her most gentle tone.

The crown prince just nodded. He looked around and noted that the afternoon sun cast long shadows on the trees on the ground. The slanting rays of the setting sun gave a soft and warm orange and crimson tinge to the sky. The west was ablaze by the ball of fire. He turned sideways and caught Marx Skylar intently looking at Amaya. He followed his line of sight and for a moment he thought he was seeing Danaya.

Amaya was smiling gently at Marx. The rays of the setting sun behind her were like a halo that set her copper-colored hair ablaze. Prince Ibarra was in a trance. Memories of Danaya and Ibrahim came rushing back. He seemed to remember a similar scene in the past when he followed his brother and Danaya sneak out of the palace to the woods to watch the sunset.

He fell in love with Danaya the first time he saw her. That was when Ibrahim brought her home and introduced her as his girlfriend to them. Danaya has just turned eighteen when Ibarra first saw her.

Ibrahim was on a mission in Albanya. A crazy suitor of Danaya attempted to kidnap her. Fortunately, Ibrahim and his team were in the vicinity and they managed to save Danaya from the hands of her crazy suitor.

Danaya fell in love with Ibrahim the first time she set her eyes on him. Ibrahim however has no interest in women but was focused on his work. He treated her the same he treated all other women. He was very cold and did not know how to smile. However, fate always played its nosey hand on them. Danaya was always the damsel in distress and by coincidence, Ibrahim was always there, a knight in shining armor that would save the damsel in distress. One day, Ibrahim realized that the woman who was always in trouble stole his heart. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"Are you alright, Hubby?" Princess Consort Nelida has come to Ibarra’s side. She saw him look at Amaya in a daze. From the angle where he was standing, even Nelida could see that Amaya looked like Danaya when she was her age.

"Hubby, are you alright?" Princess Nelida touched his arm to get his attention.

The crown prince blinked, and when he looked again, he saw it was Amaya talking happily to Marx.

"Ah yes, I am fine." He turned to look at his father and mother. They were sitting side by side holding and clasping each other’s hands. They were talking but their voices were soft and they were the ones who could hear what they were saying to each other. They were looking at Marx and Amaya.

The corner of Ibarra’s eyes sparkled. A tear threatened to fall but he was quick to blink it away. It was such a magical moment and it shouldn’t be time for tears.

When was the last time he saw his parents so loving towards each other? It was a long time ago. He never saw his parents quarrel. Maybe they did quarrel in their chamber but not publicly. He always sees them as very loving to one another. His mother was a gentle and caring person. She did not play favorites. She always treated Ibrahim, the same way that she would treat him.

But one day everything changed. His parents quarreled in front of him on the day of his wedding. He had never seen his mother cry but at that time, her beautiful face was full of tears, anger, and pain. He ruined the relationship between his father and mother. He ruined his mother because after that event she was never the same again.

Ibarra blinked again. He was trying to fight the negative emotions that were eating him from the inside. It was not the time for self-pity and guilt.

Queen Lucinda accidentally turned to her left and saw his son with his gloomy expression. She knew her son the most. She could tell that something triggered him and he was feeling guilty and frustrated.

"Son, come over here." She beckoned him using the gentle voice she used to call them when they were still little.

Ibarra, as if in a trance walked toward his mother. With his legs folded, he sat on the ground before her.

"Look at you. I haven’t taken a good look at you for a long time. You have matured like wine. You will surely become a good king in the future." Queen Lucinda said gently as she stroked his hair like she used to in the past.

Ibarra broke down. He let the tears fall silently. "I am sorry, Mother. Please forgive me. I harmed a lot of people." Ibarra’s shoulders trembled. He was trying hard to control himself so he will not sob loudly.

"Hush. I have forgiven you a long time ago. Maybe I was just sick at that time so I did not tell you. You have to completely let go of the past so you can move on. Your daughter, Amaya told us that Ibarra has forgiven you and your Father so you have to move on."
