Chapter 159: Keep The Pup

Princess Consort Nelida exited from the North Wing double door. She walked gracefully to the center of the garden where the children were playing.

"Mother, look! Yohan has a new pet." Donello called out to his mother when he saw her coming over.

When the three other children heard the Princess Consort was coming over, the smiles on their faces slowly faded. Even the young boy who was very lively earlier stood stiffly. As Princess Consort Nelida came nearer, the three young ones bowed their heads and greeted her in unison.

"Greetings, Mother." they kept their heads low waiting for the Consort to say a word.

Queen Lucinda frowned. She looked at Nelida with a disapproving look. She did not know that the children harbored so much fear in front of Nelida. Just how much has this little one suffered?

"You can continue playing. You have already greeted your mother." Queen Lucinda spoke gently to the children but she raised her eyebrows when she met Nelida’s gaze.

The little wolf felt a hostile presence around. He snarled and ran toward Princess Nelida baring his small canine. Everyone was shocked that nobody moved or said a thing. There were so many of them and yet Spirit did not display any aggressive behaviour at all. Why is it that when Nelida came, the pup suddenly became aggressive?

Amaya was worried that if she did not intervene, the baby wolf will really bite her Aunt Nelida and he will be definitely killed for that.

"Spirit, stop!" Amaya growled. No one understood what he said except the furry white ball that suddenly stopped on his track.

"Come here!" Amaya commanded him. The little pup, tucked his tail between his legs and headed to where Amaya was.

Amaya bend down and picked him up. She placed her hand at the back of the pup and moved it up and down. It made the wolf relax.

"Don’t attack other people without reason. You will harm yourself."

The pup whimpered and looked at Amaya with an aggrieved eye.

"Sister, how did you make the pup obey you?" Donello was curios.

"I told him to stop using the same voice as a mother wolf would command its pup." Amaya explained briefly.

Princess Consort Nelida took some time before she recovered from her initial shock. She tried to control her emotion and her calm expression returned. From her peripheral vision she saw King Duncan and Prince Ibarra walking toward their direction.

"What happened here? Why are you so pale?" Prince Ibarra asked Nelida. His voice did not show any trace of concern. He simply asked because it was inappropriate for him not to.

"I don’t think we should keep a wild animal in the palace. It attacked me and succeeded if Amaya did not call him back."

Yohan’s face fell. Tears started falling from his eyes but he did not make any sound at all. Camilla and Riyana who he saw smiling brightly earlier looked gloomy and their face downcast.

Prince Ibarra looked at his father and then at Amaya.

"What can you say about this, Amaya?"

"If the animal is not provoked it will not attack deliberately."

Amaya saw Nelida’s expression turn ugly.

"I did not see Aunt Nelida provoke the wolf, so it meant that the pup was threatened or he felt that he was not safe."

Princess Nelida narrowed her eyes and glanced at Amaya.

"Amaya, do you mean that the wolf thinks that I am a threat?"

Amaya remained silent as she did not know how to answer Nelida’s questions.

Spirit jumped out of Amaya’s hands and he went to King Duncan and Prince Ibarra wagging his tail. Princess Consort Nelida was furious. How did this little beast attack her and become so obedient in front of the king and the crown prince? She narrowed her eyes as she looked at Amaya. Did she say something to the wolf?

Amaya did not say anything to Spirit. Wolves were very sensitive. They know if other animals are good to them or not.

"The pup can stay. Be sure that it will not harm other people because the moment it does, then it will be returned to the zoo.

Nelida pursed her lips and clenched her hands.

"But, My Prince. Are we going to wait for something bad to happen before acting on it? What if it attacks Donello or Ella?"

"Mother, the pup is good to me and will not bite me." To illustrate, he called Spirit.

"Spirit Come!"

At first, the pup did not react at all. It still did not register in his mind that Spirit was his name.

Donello called a second time. This time his voice carried an authority that surprised both King Duncan and Prince Ibarra.

"Spirit Come!"

The baby wolf recognized the authority in the voice of the one who spoke. He looked at him and understood that he was calling for him. He ran to him and jumped into his arms and licked his face.

Princess Consort Nelida was disgusted. How could a wild beast lick the face of the son that she doted on?

"Donello, let it go! How can you allow it to lick your face? What if it has rabies or some kind of a disease?" Nelida was frantic. She approached Donello and was about to snatch the small wolf from his son.

The pup in Donello’s arms turned toward Nelida and he growled. Nelida stepped a few steps back.

"Put it down Donello. Look at him. He is snarling." Princess Consort Nelida shouted.

Amaya took the pup from Donello and she calmed it by gently stroking his back. "You are agitating him Aunt Nelida. Spirit is a gentle pup. He likes Donello, Yohan, Camilla, and Riyana. He also liked Grandma. Probably he felt that you don’t like him that’s why he is snarling at you."

Amaya freed Spirit and the little pup went to the Queen’s legs. He looked at the queen with his puppy eyes and his small tail wagged. He lifted his paw and placed it gently on the queen’s legs.

The queen laughed and lifted the pup and placed it on her lap. "What a sweet and cute little fur ball. Of course, the kids can keep this as a pet."
