Chapter 152: She Is Not Simple

"They share the same eyes, eyebrows, and prominent jawlines. Those are the trademark of a Rocas." Amaya spoke with pride. "Donello and Yohan have the same eye color and eyebrows as them."

King Ralden took a few small steps until he stood before her. Amaya frowned because she felt that he was too close. She stepped back.

The king chuckled. "Are you scared of me little Princess? I don’t bite." his voice was gentle and soothing. Amaya felt a warmth under her chin and she was forced to look up into his orbs that were the color of the obsidian.

"And yours as well, Princess. You have the eyes of the Rocas which none of your cousins have."

Amaya slapped the hand that was gently holding her chin up. She moved to the other side of the room pretending to study the photos of the other kings.

"If we have the same ancestor, why is your eye color different? Are you wearing contact lenses or do all kings of Ra-Iya have the same eyes as yours?"

"Well, the first three kings of Ra-Iya have light brown eyes but the third king married a noble lady from Uropa and their sons did not have light brown eyes anymore."

"So the Lireyan royalties are stricter compared to your country? Here, those who can inherit the throne can only be 100% Lireyan. And I think it makes sense."

"What a ridiculous rule! What if the king fell in love with a foreigner? Will their sons be not allowed to inherit the throne?" King Ralden smirked.

"Isn’t that the reason why they are allowed concubines?" Amaya countered him.

King Ralden laughed. The little princess was arguing with him.

He wanted to say more but he heard steps coming their way and the other granddaughters of King Duncan arrived in gorgeous gowns and were fully made up.

The King was dumbfounded. He looked down and smirked. When he looked up, he has a gentle smile on his face.

"Beautiful ladies, we are only going to dine and not attend a ball or a banquet." he joked lightly.

"Well, we are dining with the king so we wanted to look our best," Zanzara said coquettishly.

Amaya looked at her dress and she felt out of place. Nevertheless, she knew that her dress was appropriate for dinner.

"Since Princess Amaya, cannot be my wife, may I ask you to accompany me in my car?"

"Eh?" Amaya was confused. Shouldn’t the one he will select as his wife be the one to accompany him in his car?

She looked at her Dady Ibarra who just came in for help.

King Ralden glanced at Amaya and then at Prince Ibarra.

"Your Highness, I just asked Princess Amaya to ride with me in my car since she cannot be my wife. I hope that the Crown Prince will grant me this request."

Like Amaya, Prince Ibarra did not understand the logic behind the King’s request. But he did not see any harm in it so he reluctantly agreed.

Zanzara was seething. She was looking forward to sitting with King Ralden on the way to the restaurant but Amaya was selected.

Prince Ibarra sent them off. Zanzara, Tatiana and Shanaya took different cars. Each has their own set of bodyguards so there were many cars that went out from the Asteria Palace that night.

A guard opened the back passenger door and held it for Amaya. King Ralden on the other hand, walked around and went inside the car. The door was also held open by another guard.

When Amaya sat down, King Ralden leaned forward. Amaya panicked when she noticed that the King’s face was too close to hers. She shrunk back.

The King reached for the seatbelt and buckled it for her.

"What are you thinking, Princess? Did you think that I am going to kiss you?" King Ralden whispered in her ear. He was still too close even after buckling her seatbelt.

"I am capable of buckling my seatbelt Your Majesty. But thank you for doing it for me." Amaya tried hard to speak normally.

King Ralden straightened his body. No matter how much he wanted to continue to enjoy her pleasant scent, he has to take it easy. This princess was very smart. He could feel from her reaction that she knew he was taking advantage of her. He saw her clenched hands that were about to push him but he retreated in time.

"I visited the Ibarra Rocas museum and I found a lot of your works there Princess. I was quite surprised that you can paint very well." King Ralden spoke the moment Amaya settled on the back seat.

"Thank you for your compliment, Your Majesty." Amaya’s voice was polite and distant.

"I envy you, Princess. You had a carefree childhood. You don’t have to go to school and undergo the rigid training that princesses have to undergo. You can do anything you want, without someone disciplining you..."

"You are wrong, Your Majesty. My father disciplined me every time I made mistakes. He also trained me. Maybe, the training was not as rigid as the others but he still trained me with the limited resources that he has. I also studied." Amaya knew she was impolite to cut him in but she cannot allow the king to have a misconception that she grew up a wild girl.

"But you are right. I have a carefree childhood and a happy one." Amaya smiled.

"Didn’t you regret that you have no playmates on the island?" King Ralden asked.

"But I have playmates. And I enjoyed spending time with them." She answered back, a little bit irritated.

"You mean those wild animals?" the king continued to probe.

’Yes, those wild animals are my playmates."

"I heard that you can talk to them and you understand them, is that correct?"

Amaya looked at the king. She retracted her gaze when she saw him looking at her. Perhaps, it was because she grew up in the jungle, she developed instincts similar to that of the animals. She could hear alarm bells ringing in her ears.

"It is because I spent most of the time with them, so I get to know what they want and I can also gauge their emotions. But if it is another animal that I am not familiar with, then I will not be able to communicate with it." she tried to simplify her explanation.

"That sounds reasonable." King Ralden studied the profile of the woman sitting beside him. She seemed to be speaking the truth but why does his instinct was telling him the woman was not simple?
