Chapter 153: The Car Ride

"That sounds reasonable." King Ralden studied the profile of the woman sitting beside him. She seemed to be speaking the truth but why does his instinct tell him that the woman was not simple?

Amaya looked out of the window and she felt that the car was traveling very slowly. She wanted to crane her neck and looked at the speedometer but as a princess, she still need to keep her composure. Were they traveling at less than 60 kilometers per hour?

"So what course are you taking in college?" Amaya was startled. She looked back and found King Ralden looking at her. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

His question made Amaya think deeply. She hasn’t thought about what to take as her major. Should she become a zoologist or take the much broader course of biology?

"I don’t know yet. Anything related to Science, maybe biology or paleontology."

The king was amused by what the Princess said.

"Isn’t that a strange course for a princess? Most royalty I know would study fashion design or music and arts, but your interest is a bit unique." He spoke gently but his eyes turned sharp.

"How about you, Your Majesty? What did you major in college? I am sorry I didn’t have time to look up your profile on the internet." She typed something on her cell phone but just found a very general description of the king of Ra-Iya. It did not even include the number of concubines he had.

"I majored in Psychology." ’and BioChemistry.’ King Ralden uttered the second half of his sentence to himself.

Amaya felt a chill when she heard him say Psychology. She knew that he should have other majors and not just Psychology.

"Hmm... Great leaders should have a deeper understanding of the human psyche. To govern the people, the leader should understand their human behavior and their expectations." Amaya recited an essay she read.

King Ralden looked at her with a smiling expression. "Is that an essay that you wrote?"

"Actually, it was an answer that I saw written on the test paper."

Amaya looked out of the window and frowned. "Why is the car so slow?" She could not take it anymore. She leaned forward, craned her neck, and looked at the speedometer. They were running at 45 kilometers per hour.

"Is there a funeral in front of us?" She asked innocently. The driver trembled and almost stepped on the gas. ’Is this woman insulting me?’

King Ralded chuckled.

"You are really different Princess. Other women would love it if the car traveled slowly. It meant that they could spend more time with me." His voice was low, sexy, and magnetic. He knew how to flirt with women and make them fall for him. However, Amaya was no ordinary woman. No matter how much he flirted with her, it meant nothing to Amaya.

Her cell phone brightened and vibrated. Amaya glanced at it quickly and saw that Zanzara was calling her.

"Hello," Amaya answered curtly.

"Cousin, where are you now? What is taking you so long?" Zanzara was impatient. Even though Amaya was not on speaker, King Ralden could hear her voice.

"We are still on the highway but will be arriving soon." then she hung up. She checked the time and it was a quarter before seven.

"Your Majesty, do you have some kind of phobia related to traveling? You have car sickness?" Amaya asked directly.

King Ralden laughed heartily. The driver was so shocked that he almost stepped on the break.

"You are so funny, Princess! What made you think that I have a phobia or car sickness? Just because the car is moving slowly you conclude that I have car sickness?"

"Well, the driver wouldn’t drive this slow without your permission, Your Majesty." Amaya glanced sideways.

King Ralden’s eyes were suddenly closed and he was tapping the leather cover of the back seat with his hand. He seemed to be playing silent music in his head and he was drumming with his hands.

Amaya frowned. Did he hear what she said?

"Have you ever experienced hearing music in your head, Princess?" King Ralden asked, still his eyes closed.

Amaya thought for a while. Why did the topic shift to music?

"It is not that I am hearing, but rather I am making music in my head."

The corner of King Ralden’s mouth curled up. He started humming, the hums turned into singing.

’Your scent of a thousand flowers, sweet intoxication.

Close your eyes, open up your mind, and let your fantasies run wild.

Start a journey to a strange new world,

Trust me, let me touch you and savor each sensation

Let the dream begin, let your darker side emerge

Come follow the rhythm, come to the power of my music!"

King Ralden’s voice was beautiful. She has never heard such beautiful singing before. His voice seemed to be urging and coaxing her to sleep. No! She just woke up. She cannot sleep again, otherwise, she will have trouble sleeping in the evening. She jerked and clenched her fists until her fingernails dug into her palm. The pain awakened her.

"You have such a beautiful voice, Your Highness. Did you compose that song?"

King Ralden opened his eyes and looked at Amaya in a daze. She was still awake? How can she stay awake? What he sang was a hypnotic song that did not fail to put any woman to sleep except her.

"Your Majesty?" called him a second time.

King Ralden came out of his daze and cleared his throat.

"Sorry, Princess. What did you say just now?"

"I said that was a beautiful song and you have such a beautiful voice. Looks like you are in the wrong profession, Your Majesty." Amaya teased lightly.

The King laughed again. "Ah, little Princess. It is still better to be a king. The king has the most power and I can do a lot of things that a singer or even powerful people cannot." He looked at Amaya with a burning gaze that made the princess so uncomfortable. She wanted to move farther from him, but she restrained herself.

She did not want to agitate the dangerous man beside her.

"You are becoming more interesting the more I stay with you. It is a pity that you rejected my proposal. I know that you will be a great queen." He leaned closer and whispered in her ear.

Amaya instinctively moved closer to the window.

"Don’t be scared, Princess. I will not eat you though I really wanted to." His gaze lingered on the exposed flesh of her collar and upper chest.

"I am not scared, Your Majesty." She declared boldly.

"That is great then!"

Since the car was driving slowly. Amaya unbuckled her seatbelt so she can relax. King Ralden signaled the driver with his eyes.

A few meters from where they were there was an intersection. The driver suddenly jerked the steering wheel to the left. Amaya’s body shifted to the left as well. She bumped into the King of Ra-Iya. He steadied her while holding on to her slim waist.

"I am sorry your Majesty. A young woman suddenly crossed the street and I have no choice but to avoid the girl, your Majesty."

"Thank you, Your Majesty. But please let go." Amaya said in a polite voice.

The moment King Ralden released her from his embrace, she moved back and buckled up. She was afraid that the king will buckle the seatbelt for her.

’Damn! What is wrong with me? When I just hugged her now I have the urge not to let her go and continue to enjoy her scent.

’Don’t forget what your goal is. She is only a woman. You have plenty of concubines that you can play with.’ King Ralden murmured to himself.

"Are we there yet?" Amaya was getting more uncomfortable the longer she stayed in the car.

The king chuckled. "The Princess is getting impatient. She said that you driving is so slow."

The driver heaved a sigh of relief. Just how difficult was it for him to keep such a slow speed? He stepped on the gas and the car shoot like an arrow.

"When I get married to one of your cousins, I hope that Princess Amaya can attend the wedding?"

"Of course, Your Majesty."

"I have a very big zoo in my palace. I am pretty sure that you will enjoy it." With that, King Ralden leaned back and closed his eyes. He seemed to be resting and did not talk to Amaya anymore.

They arrived at the restaurant. Two Lireyan guards went to open both sides of the car’s door. Amaya and King Ralden get out of the car at the same time.

There was no one else in the restaurant, other than the King and the granddaughters of King Duncan plus the many guards. There were no paparazzi present as the Lireyan elite guards made sure of that.

King Ralden and the First Princess walked side by side to the elevator that brought them to the fifth floor where there was a good view of the lagoon.

Amaya entered the private room first. She noticed the hostile gazes of her cousins especially that of Zanzara.
