Chapter 119: What Secrets Are You Keeping?

Marx and Amaya visited the zoo. Amaya found it therapeutic and relaxing to spend time with her animal friends. Marx watched at the sideline as Amaya turned into the carefree girl that she was back in Miraga. They did not stay long in the zoo.

"Can I drive?" Amaya asked with pleading eyes.

"No," Marx replied firmly. "I have something to show you so stay in the back seat."

Amaya obediently went to the back seat. She would just drive the following day. She could ask her chauffeur to let her drive.

Marx took out his tablet and showed her the digitized copy of the map that they have collectively drawn.

"This is just a small portion of the whole area that we need to cover. It will take at most two weeks for us to complete the map of Mount Daya."

"How about we bring along Khalil and Strata? It will be faster if we ride them?"

"Maybe that is a good idea. But we will not be able to bring along people with us."

"I think it is okay as some people that come with us last time were useless." Amaya said without filter.

Marx chuckled. "We can bring along people from the military. I heard there is a new batch of graduates and they will be deployed on a mountainous terrain to build their survival skills."

"Really? That’s great! Let us utilize them then." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Amaya took out her sketch pad and showed it to Marx. "These are the drafts I prepared for my Verde Collection."

Marx studied the draft. "They are beautiful. By the way, the opening of Simply Jewel is on Friday, or two days from now. I think we need to inform the king and the crown prince about this.

"Okay. I will listen to you Marx."

When they arrived at the palace, Marx sought audience with the king and the crown prince.

"Greetings, Your Majesty and Your Highness. This Friday will be the opening of Simply Jewel. It is a partnership between me and Amaya." Marx paused when he saw the ugly expression on Prince Ibarra’s face. He stole a glance at the king. He looked so serious and was looking at him with piercing eyes.

"What secrets are you keeping Marx?" Prince Ibarra asked in an unfriendly tone.

’He will be my father-in-law in the future so I should not offend him.’ Marx thought to himself.

"Your Highness, Amaya is a genius in jewelry design. She made a lot of designs while we were on our way from Miraga to Usturia." Marx tried to sound as friendly as possible.

"Continue!"

’Damn! He definitely have sensed something.’

"We took out a chest of gems that Princess Amaya and Ibrahim managed to gather when they were in Miraga. Those gems were the embodiment of Amaya’s designs."

"Why did you not tell us about this thing before?" King Duncan asked.

"I apologize for my lack of foresight, Your Majesty. I only wanted to protect Amaya. The more people knows about it, the riskier will it be for her."

"How dare you? Are you saying that we are a threat to my daughter?" Prince Ibarra lost his usual calmness.

"It is not what I meant Your Highness. I am also trying to find the correct opportunity, and that opportunity only presented itself now."

"What is your motive, Marx?" It was King Duncan who asked.

"I had mentioned it to the crown prince before, Your Majesty. Amaya has saved my life. I also signed Ibrahim’s agreement where I promised to take care of his .. of Amaya." Marx initially wanted to say ’his daughter’ but he considered Ibarra’s ego. He remained polite with his words. In the presence of the two top leaders of Lireya, Marx kept his cool and confidence.

"Is that your only reason?" King Duncan asked him meaningfully.

Marx understood what the king was implying. They were all smart people and they don’t beat around the bush.

"I like your granddaughter, Your Majesty. When the time comes, I will ask her hand in marriage." Marx did not flinch in his word.

"What audacity! And do you think you are worthy of my daughter?" Prince Ibarra was furious.

King Duncan threw a glance that said ’mind your words’ to his son. He wanted to say something but waited for the response of the young and bold man in front of him.

"With all due respect, Your Highness, I know that I am worthy of your eldest daughter." Marx purposely addressed Amaya as Ibarra’s eldest daughter and he saw the flicker in his eyes.

"But you are not a prince." Prince Ibarra protested.

"It is because there is no monarchy in Usturia. But I can confidently say that I am better than those princes who attended Princess Amaya’s coming of age party."

King Duncan chuckled. He liked the confidence of this young man. "My granddaughter is still young. When the time comes your feelings might have changed." He paused and sized up Marx. "Our conversation has shifted to a different topic. Going back to the treasure chest, so how much treasure is there?"

"There is a little left. As you know, Amaya bought an island, so those jewels were converted to cash. The others were used on the meeting gifts she shared with the family. The rest will be used for her jewelry business." Marx explained

Outside the study, Princess Consort Nelida was about to knock on the door when she heard conversations. She has some matters to discuss with her husband but it looked like that her husband has guests. She was about to leave when she heard that Amaya bought an island and that she has treasures and has a jewelry business?

How lucky could she get? Nelida became interested in the treasure. Although Marx said that there was only a little left, she did not buy that. However when she thought that Amaya bought an island then it was possible that they used the treasure to cover the cost of the island.
