"That's for my Julia to eat," Glades Horne stated coolly in response to Hansen Ruiz, then added another clipped sentence.

Hansen Ruiz walked up to him with a smile and nonchalantly sat down on his office desk.

Glades Horne immediately closed the document in his hand, grabbed it, and forcefully swatted it toward Hansen Ruiz, who had to quickly hop back onto the black chair in front of the desk.

"You seem to have plenty of free time," Glades Horne said, glancing at Rachel Bailey, who was indeed boldly looking around his office, before his gaze settled on Hansen Ruiz.

Rachel Bailey was his beloved wife's good friend and also the new wife of his close buddy, so he was generous enough to let her look around.

"I'm so busy I don't have a moment to spare! Haven't you noticed? I'm taking my wife on a tour of your company," Hansen Ruiz immediately responded with a laugh.

The next moment, Glades Horne stood up, gathered a large stack of documents, and stuffed them into Hansen's arms, saying in a similarly lighthearted tone, "I haven't noticed. All I see is that you have way too much free time. So, please, put your all-powerful Assistant skills to use and take care of these."

With the new year marking a fresh start, Hansen Ruiz, the Assistant, hadn't even shown his face at the company. Today, he'd delivered himself right to Glades's doorstep, so Glades figured he could seize the opportunity to slack off a bit.

Before leaving the house, Julia had told him to go back to their little home; she'd have lunch ready and waiting for him.

"All of these need your signature. Why dump them on me? I'm the Assistant, not the CEO," Hansen Ruiz protested. He usually obeyed Glades Horne's orders, but he drew the line at handling documents.

He liked tackling thorny issues, not being cooped up in an office endlessly signing his name. If he enjoyed that kind of work, he wouldn't have come to T City; he would have taken over the Ruiz family business long ago.

He dumped all the documents back on the desk and, with a firm push of his foot, sent his chair gliding back two meters from the desk.

While looking around Glades Horne's office, Rachel Bailey listened to the two men. It struck her that these influential figures of the city, despite their powerful statures, interacted with a playful, bickering ease, yet were completely casual and unconstrained with each other. Usually, on the phone, Hansen Ruiz was always so deferential, just listening and doing as told. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"Fine, then help me with something." Glades Horne sat back down. His peripheral vision caught Rachel Bailey walking towards the special snack cabinet. His expression darkened for a moment. But then, a thought occurred to him. She's Julia's good friend. If she likes those snacks, I can be generous and let her have some. He withdrew his gaze from Rachel.

"What is it?" Hansen Ruiz pretended not to notice the shift in his friend's expression.

He should learn from his buddy, Hansen mused. He'd start collecting his wife's favorite snacks too and set up a special display at home and in his office.

"I need an experienced female Obstetrician and a patient Nurse with extensive experience in patient care," Glades Horne said in a low voice. "I had my eye on the Obstetrician Mason Phillips sent over the other day. However, Mason refuses to let her go. He claims she's the head of the obstetrics department at his family's hospital, and their whole department relies on her. He flatly refused to transfer her to me to be a family doctor."

Beyond that, Glades Horne also wanted to poach the Head Nurse from Mason's hospital. Both were key personnel, and Mason Phillips, as a businessman, wouldn't easily let them go, even though he and Glades were close friends. Moreover, Glades Horne was actively planning to open his own hospital. Given the inherent competition in the field, Mason was even more reluctant to release his staff. Besides, it seemed incredibly wasteful for an experienced head Obstetrician and a Head Nurse to join the Horne family merely as private doctors for two pregnant women, Julia Bluen and Adele Horne. Mason simply wouldn't agree to it, no matter what.

"With your capabilities, do you still need me to handle it?" Hansen Ruiz raised an eyebrow.

Glades Horne leaned back into the black swivel chair and responded coldly, "The two people I'm interested in are doctors at the Phillips family hospital, and Mason Phillips refuses to let them go, no matter what. Julia suddenly had stomach pain the day before yesterday, and it gave me a terrible fright. I feel that I must, absolutely must, have an Obstetrician move into my house to feel safe."

"You just love poaching from others. Hospitals rely on their medical staff. If you try to snatch their senior doctors, who would agree?" Hansen Ruiz muttered.

"Will you do it or not?" Glades Horne pressed, indifferent to the fact that he was poaching from a close friend. His only concern was the safety of the child in his beloved wife's womb.

"Can I refuse a task you've assigned?" Hansen Ruiz chuckled. "But my methods won't be perfect. At best, I can get the doctor you want to be Julia's primary attending physician, but there's no way they'll follow Julia around 24/7. And knowing your wife's personality and temperament, I doubt she'd want that either."

"I wouldn't need you for that kind of result," Glades Horne said coldly.

"Glades, I don't think you need to be so anxious," Hansen said, his smile fading as he tried to dissuade Glades earnestly. "Isn't this how all women go through pregnancy? Besides, Julia seems very healthy. She doesn't need a live-in doctor this early. You already have Dr. Lei. Even though he's a man, he has some experience and skills. Don't make things difficult for Mason, especially if you still value him as a friend. If anything were to happen, one call and Mason Phillips would send someone immediately. So, really, I don't think you need to hire another family doctor."

Glades Horne pursed his lips and remained silent.

He was just so nervous, so worried.

Julia's belly was noticeably larger now. He was terrified that as it grew, it might... burst. He knew it was an irrational fear, a classic case of borrowing trouble, but he couldn't help worrying.

He cared about Julia too much; he couldn't bear the thought of even the slightest thing going wrong for her.

At this moment, Rachel Bailey walked back to Hansen Ruiz's side. She glanced at Glades Horne, then sighed. "All the snacks in that cabinet are Julia's favorites. Mr. Horne, you're so attentive to Julia, collecting all her favorite treats like this." She paused. "Julia probably doesn't even come here once a month, does she? Yet you always have her favorite foods ready." This man's love, devotion, and thoughtfulness for Julia are truly second to none, she thought.
