Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 524 Different People, Different Loves (2)_1
"Really? Has the senior management office area of Cosmos Group also moved into this building?" asked Rachel Bailey, while Hansen Ruiz wrapped his arm around her waist, leading her inside.
As she stepped through the door, the warmth inside enveloped Rachel, bringing an immediate sense of comfort. She couldn't help but admire the financial power of Valence Group. Heating all sixty-eight floors, from the first upwards, all day long must cost a fortune in electricity.
Although many large companies had heating, only a select few employees actually enjoyed it.
"For now, we've squeezed them onto the third floor, sharing office space with the senior management of another subsidiary."
Hansen Ruiz patiently answered all his wife's questions.
"Assistant, Happy New Year."
As they entered, the reception staff immediately greeted Hansen Ruiz with broad smiles and nods.
When they spotted Rachel by Hansen Ruiz's side, a look of surprise flashed in their eyes. They eyed Rachel with a mixture of curiosity and deep confusion.
That day, Rachel wore a black women's suit jacket. Underneath was a round-neck, purple-red T-shirt, paired with black skinny jeans. She carried a black LV bag, one she had, of course, only bought after her marriage. Before marrying, she would never have dreamed of splurging on such an expensive handbag. Her status had changed post-marriage; to avoid embarrassing Hansen Ruiz, and under his strong encouragement, she had purchased the LV bag. She only carried it when she was out with him.
For a Cinderella who had married into wealth, cultivating the appropriate demeanor and habits would take a long time. Fortunately, she wasn't living in the Ruiz family home back in A City; its strict confines and myriad rules would have felt like being pricked by thorns.
"Assistant, who is this?" Everyone knew Hansen Ruiz was married. His wife was reportedly petite and delicate, with average looks. Only the key senior executives in the company had actually met the Assistant's wife. Seeing Rachel now, even though they subconsciously felt sure she was Hansen Ruiz's new bride, they were inwardly reluctant to believe it. That such an ordinary woman, the kind you could see anywhere on the street, had actually captured their Assistant? How could this be fair!
Because it was nearly the New Year, Hansen Ruiz and Rachel had decided against an immediate honeymoon. They planned to take one in the spring, after the New Year festivities had passed.
Otherwise, these people wouldn't be seeing the couple together now.
"This is my wife, Rachel Bailey," Hansen Ruiz said, tightening his arm around Rachel's waist as he smilingly introduced her to the front desk staff.
The moment Hansen Ruiz made the introduction, everyone's gaze toward Rachel turned respectful, and they all smiled and greeted her warmly.
Rachel responded with the practiced, professional smile she'd honed from her days selling clothes.
But before she could exchange more than a smile with the staff, Hansen Ruiz had already guided her into the elevator.
"Do you want to go to the third floor and take a look?" Hansen Ruiz asked softly once they were in the elevator.
Rachel used to be an employee of Cosmos Group, which was now just one of Valence Group's many subsidiaries. In just a few short months, Rachel had metaphorically 'flown onto a high branch'; she had become the Assistant of Valence Group. People who previously outranked Rachel at Cosmos Group would now have to treat her with utmost respect if they saw her.
"I don't have that habit of showing off," Rachel said, removing his large hand from her waist and straightening her clothes.
"HEH," Hansen Ruiz chuckled, "I actually wish you would show off, just once." Less than a minute after she'd moved his hand, it naturally found its way back around her waist.
Rachel, left with little choice, let him be.
"Julia mentioned she won't be coming to work every day after the New Year. Do you think she'll come to the office with Glades one of these days?" Rachel changed the subject. She was thinking that if Julia wasn't working every day, and since her own afternoons were generally free, she could find time to spend with Julia.
"Do you want to see her?"
Instead of answering directly, Hansen Ruiz took out his phone and called Glades Horne.
After a brief exchange, he hung up and turned to Rachel, saying, "Julia is at home. If you want to see her, I can take you to the Horne family's place later." He had wanted to fulfill his wife's wish by having Glades ask Julia to come to the company. However, Glades had declined, saying Julia needed her rest and wouldn't be rushed from home just because Rachel wanted to see her at that moment. Glades doted on his wife as if she were his life, and Hansen Ruiz could do nothing about it.
"I can go by myself. You just got back to the company; don't you need to handle business matters?"
Hansen Ruiz smiled but didn't answer.
He had brought her to the company merely to let her tour Valence Group, not because he needed to return to handle business. He returned to the company even less frequently than Glades Horne. Usually, unless there was an important matter, he wouldn't come back, except if Glades Horne specifically summoned him. If an important matter arose that required him, the Assistant, to personally return to the company to handle it, that would mean Valence Group was facing a crisis—something far more terrifying than a financial tsunami.
Upon reaching the sixty-eighth floor and stepping out of the elevator, Secretary Yang and several other secretaries were at the main secretarial desk, discussing something. Secretary Yang was giving instructions to the others. They were momentarily startled to see Hansen Ruiz and Rachel appear but quickly recovered, greeting the couple politely. Unlike the front desk staff, they didn't need to ask to confirm Rachel's identity.
After Hansen Ruiz introduced Rachel to a few of the secretaries, he led her to Glades Horne's CEO's Office, knocked, and then guided her inside.
Upon entering Glades Horne's CEO's Office, Rachel was first struck by its grandeur. Then, she cautiously took in her surroundings. When she spotted a dedicated snack cabinet, a look of puzzlement flickered in her eyes.
"What brings you here?"
Glades Horne lifted his deep gaze from a pile of documents, glanced at Hansen Ruiz, and asked in a cool, detached tone.
Hansen Ruiz released Rachel's hand and said softly, "Rachel, feel free to look around. This is the most valuable and impressive CEO's office in the city. See that snack cabinet? It's always stocked with many treats, and they refresh them regularly. If you see anything you like, help yourself. Don't be shy."
