Chapter 506: Chapter 509: Thomas Shannon, you big liar!

"If you don’t leave now, you’ll become my burden. Understand?"

"Do you have a way to save yourself?" Sophie Sullivan asked, her face filled with disbelief.

Thomas Shannon sneered. "Of course. Who do you think I am? Do you really think mere quicksand could take my life?"

Sophie Sullivan’s heart began to waver.

She didn’t want to die... Nor did she want Thomas Shannon to die trying to save her. If there was a way for both of them to survive, that would be for the best.

"Thomas Shannon, are you sure you’re not lying to me?" Sophie Sullivan raised her head, staring unblinkingly into his eyes.

Thomas Shannon lowered his head, gave her a light peck on her red lips, and murmured in a low, raspy voice, "Don’t worry, I won’t lie to you."

Only then did the grave expression on Sophie Sullivan’s face relax, and she broke into a smile. "Alright, I’ll listen to you."

"Good girl." Thomas Shannon lowered his head and kissed her cheek.

He hugged her tightly, whispering instructions into her ear, "Now, lift your legs."

With his assistance, and after exhausting effort, Sophie Sullivan finally managed to pull her legs out of the sand.

"See that over there? It’s not quicksand. Later, you’ll crawl slowly over there. Once you reach it, you’ll be safe. Understand?" Thomas Shannon lifted his chin slightly, gesturing for her to look.

Sophie Sullivan looked and, true to his words, saw a tranquil patch of sand. Unlike the quicksand currently sinking beneath her feet, the sand over there was stable.

She nodded, her expression serious. "I see it."

"Good. When I set you down later, crawl. Move lightly and slowly to get over there. Can you do it?" Thomas Shannon reminded her, still worried.

Sophie Sullivan’s lips curved into a smile, her expression radiant. "No problem!"

"Great, go." He carefully set her down.

Sophie Sullivan lay prone on the sand, increasing her surface area. Just as Thomas Shannon had instructed, she began to crawl slowly towards the safe patch of sand.

From behind, she heard Thomas Shannon’s voice, "You’re doing well. Keep it up."

Sophie Sullivan, in high spirits, replied, "Got it! You hurry up and get out too!"

Thomas Shannon watched her slowly crawl away, a faint smile playing on his lips.

Sophie Sullivan was exhausted from crawling. As she drew nearer to the safe area, her excitement grew.

Finally, she made it to the safe zone.

Her feet touched solid ground. She turned excitedly, shouting, "Thomas Shannon, I made it!"

Her gaze fell on the man already sinking into the sand. She froze.

Her nose stung, and tears instantly welled in her eyes.

Her hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into fists. She growled in fury, "Thomas Shannon, you liar!"

He said he wouldn’t lie to her! He said he had a way to save himself and told her, his burden, to leave first. But what about now?

His body was already sinking into the sand; the quicksand had engulfed more than half of his body, leaving only the part above his chest exposed to the air.

Tears blurred her vision. Sophie Sullivan was about to rush over impulsively when Thomas Shannon furrowed his brow sharply. "Maniac, stay put!"

"Thomas Shannon, you big liar! Why did you lie to me!"

Thomas Shannon gave a faint smile, his deep eyes fixed on her intently. "It’s better for one to die than for both."

He gradually raised the pistol in his hand. "Take this pistol for self-defense. My bodyguards won’t be able to contact me, but they should enter the desert for a rescue soon. When they arrive, leave here with them."
